Default Battery Configurations

Guys,

Just curious how many people are running a single 10S pack (either wiring two 5S packs together or 10S from the factory) versus running two 5S packs. Please respond to the poll. If you have some other way of wiring batteries, or if you are using a lower cell count (ie: 8S) it would be helpful to know as well.

Thanks!

What about 6S+4S ? ...The 6S sized packs can also be used in the smaller "mini-me" aka "50e" sized planes.

Plus, last time I checked several months ago, the 25C Rhino packs (4900mah) were lighter than the equivalent 20C Rhinos. But the 25C’s weren’t sold in a 5S configuration - and so it had to be 6S and 4S.

Cheers,
Neil M.

I use 2x5S packs, but I guess there's really no rhyme or reason why, other than it seems easy to setup and possibly repair/replace. I don't ever really disconnect them (I use Powerpoles).

There is a chance I may end up at some point this season, which would require buying a bunch of 3S packs - no biggie.

(2) 5s wired and taped together with spacers. Easier to load and lighter then two 5s with better cooling then 10s bricks.

How do you charge the 2 packs? As one 10s or separately?

Thanks,
RC

.
I use an FMA PowerLab 8. You can charge 2 packs in parallel. When starting the charge, it asks you how many packs you have connected in parallel and will double the amperage to the packs.
.
The packs need to be close to the same level of discharge, but as long as they were used together on the same flight, that should be no problem.
.
If you have a large enough power supply, the FMA Powerlab will charge up to 9 batteries in parallel.

Thanks Kieth...
I have a couple 3010B I Chargers and am familiarizing myself with their capabilities. I also have a charging setup with 4 Astroflights and two power supplies.Surveying my options. This stuff is a little confusing for an old Glow Head!
Thanks for the help!

Rick

My Cellpro sees it as a 10s using one power lead and two balance connectors. Very easy but will only charge around 1C.
