Steve - I did mount my sevos to the floor like Chip and I used small pieces of nyrod to act as bushings in the braces like Chip. My rudder is removable with an X-acto blade, haha. Did removable on Passport 2010 but not on Visa. Went the CA route, much quicker though both work fine.

Just wanted to let anyone that was looking to put the elevator servos further forward in the plane as Chip did, that it really isn't all that difficult. I did mine in relatively short order. I drilled exit holes 7.5'' forward of the bevel in the rudder post and 0.75'' above the paint line (red in my case). If I were to do it again I might push the exit hole back to 7.0'' from the bevel, but mine worked out just fine where it is. The installation of the servos is a breeze. I just used 1/8'' light ply rails that I screwed the servos to and epoxied into position. Since you can reach your arm down the fuse, the braces are easy. I got one a little further down the fuse than Chip given that I have adult size arms :-)
Hi Mike,

I have a quick question for you. If your elevator pushrods exit at 0.75", 7" away from the rudder post then that would seem to put them right on top of where the rudder servo goes. Did you move your rudder servo back closer to the rudder post, or is it basically centered on the stab anti rotation pin like Todd's pictures? If you slide them back, are they close to touching each other and sealing off the vent hole?

Steve -

Thank you for double checking with me......my bad, I had a see-through ruler that is 18" in length and now that you mention it, I must have had it backwards.....must be 11" from the bevel. Very sorry for the confusion.

Derek - this is what happens after 3 months of being chained to a desk, haha. Also, why wouldn't you want to report income of 7 million rather than 11?

In today's world it's more like reporting a loss of 11 million vs 7 million, so that's the problem!

Ok ok....next time I give measurements I will post a picture of the ruler :-). At least the incorrect one was in a spot that requires a much larger hole to be cut in the fuse, thus, no harm no foul :-)

Thanks Mike

That location is about where I figured it would end up. I wasn't sure if I missed something or, worse, you had cut your holes in a bad spot. Thanks for the info.

Weather was crappy here in Cleveland again this weekend. Therefore, building season continued for another weekend. Got the Visa just about ready to go. Weighed in at 4875 grams prior to my decision to put an extended battery tray in to enable me to shift batteries forward if desired. That, along with about five 6" servo extension cords should put me somewhere in the 4920 - 4930 gram range. I was very pleased to see that the plane easily makes weight with the TP5300s for motor and a TP910 for receiver power. I also am using a power switch.

The plane looks great. Thanks to Chip, Macelo, and everyone at CA.

Hey Mike that's the same weight that I got on my Onas "With a switch"!
Seems like a luxury to have a switch again.
I'm waiting on the weather too.
Chicago and Cleveland seem to have the same weather mostly crappy. At least you have the human freak LeBron. Enjoy the ride and the new plane. Mike

Hey Visa builders,

How did you attach your landing gear? I temporarily mounted mine by drilling through the mounting plate and into the gear. That was all well and good. Then I tried to permanently attach them by using lock nuts. My hands are obviously bigger than Marcelo's, so there must be an easier way than trying to reach under the panel and drive the screw into a lock nut. What is everyone else doing?

Blind nuts look like the way. I was going to use them but I didn't want to press them in unless I had a better alternative. They'll probably work loose and make removal a real chore, but I'll worry about that later.

They could work loose. I put epoxy and microballoons around mine and I am hoping they stay put

You can put a small fillet of baking soda around the blind nut followed by a drop of CA. I've never had one come out and you don't have to wait for anything to cure.

Verne - from what I remember, the drop of CA makes the baking soda smoke, and that's kinda cool:-)

It was especially cool for the fingerprint technician that noticed that the smoke also makes latent fingerprints on paper visible. That guy made a lot of money on something we all just found interesting and cool. I'm sorry to say that I was a crime scene technician by trade when I first experienced it with the old Satellite City Hot Stuff CA 30+ years ago. Unfortunately, I didn't have any documents around that would have shown me the potential. Oh well.....

BTW, the newer CA's don't smoke nearly as much as the old Satellite City stuff did.

It will still smoke enough to make your eyes clamp shut... CA and baking soda works great. I should have remembered that one.

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this thread and Pattern for that matter but been a modeler for close to 30 years now. I'm interested in the Visa and getting into pattern. My enigma here is how the split rudder works and when it's actually used. I thought it might add side area in rollers and knife edge but I'm really not sure. I hate to ask the obvious for you guys but I have no choice and would like to make a decision which to buy.

Thanks y'all in advance

I think most of the time it is used simply for exactly what you said. I know some people speculated initially that it was used for downline breaking, but that isn't how Chip and others are using it. I flew Chip's passport last year with it and the rudder authority was phenomenal. Knife edge flight had very little nose high attitude. The performance is spectacular, especially given the size of the 9650 servos in the tail that are doing the work. I have also flown Passports without the split rudder and they flew excellent as well. Rudder authority was definitely more than enough, but I think the one with the split rudder may have had just a bit more.
