I have scratch built a new rudder which saved me 40 grams and have a std size servo up front with pull pull wires to a MK bell crank.

Congrats on your maiden flights !
I have also made a very light rudder, and even though I have two servos for the elevator in the tail my batteries are almost as far back as yours.
Of course then, my Axi is much heavier.... :-(
I have now added a rather large T-canalizer, I will test it in few days. Hope to improve the fuselage sideforce for manever #1.
Having flown a bipe for the last few months, I am used to the rudder being almost as responsive as the elevator ....
Your incidence numbers, what are they relative to ? Wing slightly positive ... relative to what ... the molded line on the fuselage ?

My incidence numbers are relative to the centre line from the original drawings by Starcraft. The front of the fuselage has zero degrees angle to the centre line. I have adjusted it down by one degree. The Addiction by Starcraft has -2 degree down trust.
The moulded lines on each side of the fuselage are off by more than one degree relative to each other on my plane so they are useless.

Hi again,
I managed to get in 16 flights last week (for me this is a lot ...!) with my new Addiction. After som minor adjustments I think the basic setup is now completed.
The model performs very well, and has a very locked in and neutral behaviour. In fact I have no mix at all, except for a few % low throttle to down elevator.
My final settings are like this : Wings aligned with molded lines on fuse, stabiliser -0,7 degrees relative to wings, motor downthrust -1 degree relative to the front of the fuse.
That means that I adjusted the motor -1 degree down compared to what the instructions says..... With this setting the plane goes the perfectly straight in the verticals at all power settings.
The CG at 168 mm from the LE seems to be a good choice, at least mine follows 45 degree lines very well and needs only a little push when inverted.

The molded fuse lines on my model seems to be aligned, I have absolutely no aileron trim when using these lines as a reference.
BTW: I have added a rather large T-wing right behind the canopy, and the "rudder to sideforce" response increased significantly. I like this mod a lot, making P11 #1 somewhat easier.
Also, my modified balsa rudder has the same thickness at the hinge line and trailing edge. I usually fly with approx -40% expo on rudder, but with this rudder this had to be reduced to about -5%.
Hard to explain but I like the damped feeling of this rudder, making corrections look less "nervous".....

Alright, I think we're done[sm=idea.gif]!!! After putting in 1 degree positive trim in the wings and 1 degree down in the thrustline and 1 percent down elevator mix to low throttle ( I'll probably take it back out).............. We have a winner!!! No mixing necessary other than what I just stated. I am soooooo loving this airplane!!! After I program myself to keep my hands off the sticks so much and "just trust the plane", I may even become a competitive threat once again(ha-ha-ha!)[sm=punching.gif].
Seriously, with the Plettenberg 30-10 EVO as the engine of choice along with the YGE 80 HV ESC and a 20.5 x 14 Rasa or APC prop (the 21 x 15 folding Rasa's are still growing on me) I really, really like what I'm seeing [sm=tongue_smile.gif] I think we'll take some time to become better acquainted before we make our debut on the contest trail.

The Addiction by Delro is now my A – model again after the front of my Aries 07 went up in flames at the WC in Muncie this summer. To be honest I have from the first flight of the Addiction felt it was a bit nervous and unpredictable in turbulent air. I have thought about building new wings with a thicker airfoil but that is a lot of work so I thought I would try one thing first and that is to add turbulators to the wing. The turbulator do the same thing as the bumps on the surface of a golf ball. It makes the boundary layer turbulent which makes the air pass over the airfoil and follow the curve without separating. If you have ever flown in rain or realy humid air you probably have felt the wings feels heavier and more stable? The turbulators let you have the same feeling. The turbulators I use are made by Graupner and was bought from Lindinger in Austria. If you have the right tools you can probably make you own. The thickness of mine is 0,4 mm and are applied just like a sticker.

Now the Addiction just flies fantastic. Adding turbulators are the cheapest and most effective upgrade I have ever done to a F3A model.
You can see the turbulators as the white corrugated strip at the front of the wing. I have them on both sides of the wing.

The zig-zag tape is applied to improve the flight characteristics of a model aircraft. This turbulent flow is generated. A stall occurs against a laminar flow or not much later. Width ca.9 mm, thickness about 0.4 mm, center distance of about 6 mm, 60 ° angle teeth.

Flying an Addiction myself, maybe I should give that a try too.
What I currently struggle with is that the Plane slowly rolls to the right in inverted flight. It's marginal but it's there. Any idea what could be the source for this? I noticed that my rudder has to be slightly off center for normal flight (trimmed to the right) but side thrust seems correct. (no corrections needed in vertical upline). Also checked that elevators are aligned and travel the same way.
Good ideas for reasons are welcome ....

The turbulator device is really interesting to say at least and I'm surprised to hear it makes a noticable difference as I thought that the airfoils we use are much less critical in boundry layer separason compared to gliders and pylon racers.If that's the case I have a suggestion for Henning.It seems like you have put the turbulator parallel to the LE of the wing ,this means that it doesnt meet with the foil at the same chord percentage from root to tip.Theoreticaly there is an optimum position ,lets say20% (that would be my wild guess as for laminar flow in our foils).If the root and tip share the same foil I would put them in the same chord percendage.If it made a noticably difference with the parallel LE setup , it would make even more with the %setup.
Worths a try for sure !

Elias: I have thought about the different percentage and I actually don’t think it will make a big difference. As long as the turbulators are not too close to the LE and not to close to the highest point of the airfoil it’s probably ok. On a well-designed airfoil designed for a glider it probably will be more critical where the turbulators are located.
If the wingtips had been 12% as the original Addiction by Starcraft instead of 9.5% I would probably not have used the turbulators.

or place it further back to work better at low lift coef. (straight and level at cruise speed) with less drag but no effect at high AOA.
I will place mine a bit further back and report the results..

Well, the velcro strip tubulators didn't work for me... I tried them yesterday and noticed that it needs 2 clicks of up trim and the model was less stable in roll axis.
Didn't see any improvements in other areas, so i will definitely remove the turbulators. The velcro i used seems a little too "dense" so maybe it works with a different type of velcro.
