Thought you guys might like to see my newly completed HET F-18.
Power is a Kontronik 480-42, Castle 60 AMP , and a Kokam 3200 3S.
This plane is a pleasure to build and makes for a nice looking Hornet. The price is certainly right!
I just finished it and haven't flown it yet. I will post a report soon.
Now if HET would just make an F-5 ARF, I would be happy

Hello Art,
I am going to use the bungee / dolly that I got from Markos at warbirds.com
I personally think the F-18 can be hand launched. It pushes like crazy. My Sniper is another matter. The Super Sniper has a much smaller tailpipe so it may need some help to get rolling. I will find out soon if I am right
sent you a PM

Hey Carl,
thanks for the compliment and thanks again for the help !!!!
I can't wait to fly the F-18 and the Super Sniper. The planes are a ball to put together. I can't believe what you get for the money.
COME ON HET, we need some more jet choices!
Markos and Mark, get after those guys at HET and get us an F-5 and some more jets! Great models!

Mickey keep me posted on your maiden on the bug, i am thinking about using a dolly or a ramp. It sounds like you will be getting your bug up soon. If the dolly works well for you i might try it, really not interested in having to drag a ramp around. I am using a mega 16-15-2, cc45, and i have a tp3s2p2100 and a tannic 3s2p2200. i think i am going to use the tannic for the maiden. Good luck. ART

Art, You do the same. I am sure they will fly great. I put the mega 16/15/2 in my Sniper and if I had it to do over again, I would have put one in my bug also. I am new to this EDF stuff so I am learning as I go. I would be lost without the help of Carl, Mark, and Markos. pretty sharp bunch.

Just finished the test flight of my HET F-18. What a nice flying jet. It is a ball to fly and hauls butt.
I didn't need to bungee launch, it will hand launch without any problems. I am sure that is dependent on the power you have.
I can't say enough good things about it. Fun to fly, hauls *****, and lands nice and slow. I give it a 10.
Art, you need to get out and christen yours, soon. let us know how it goes. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.
I will try and get some video soon and post it.

Mickey glad to hear about your maiden flight, I went out on Sunday and got to maiden my kamdax mig with a astro brushless. I actually did 2 rog takeoff's sliding on the fuse. Hand launching a df jet is cool but sliding across the grass takes the cake. The next nice day the fa-18 is going up. You convinced me to do a hand launch, from the ammount of thrust i get i can't seee any problems. I am going to get some video, but i hope i can figure how to post it. ART

i am almost finished my super sniper but wondering if a thunderpower 4200 with a mega 16/15/2 will work or will that battery be to heavy, also does anybody know what the aileron and elevator throws should be and can you hand launch it or do you need to bungee

Tolsen,
Your battery choice is stout enough for the motor; you just need to make sure it will work ok under the cockpit as far as CG goes, which should be 90mm back from the leading edge of the wing. You may be better with a couple TP2100's in parallel saddling the intake nacelles.
As far as throws go, where did you get your model? If it was from Mark Turner, it should have come with a CD that has pics showing the throws and you might want to go back and re-visit it. Finally...yes, you need a bungee. Do not try to hand launch this one as the tailcone is a smaller diameter and needs speed before it will kick in and perform. Only two people I know of have thrown this in the air, one will never do it again and the other does it consistently, but by the skin of his teeth everytime.

Not sure where you got yours from we supply a CD manual that Carl T. did for us that shows the throws. But they are the following:
Elev:
High Rates: UP 8mm / DOWN 6mm
Low Rates: UP 5.5mm / DOWN 4mm
Ail:
High Rates: LEFT/RIGHT 8mm / DOWN 6mm
Low Rates: LEFT/RIGHT 6mm / DOWN 4mm
CG:
point is 90mm from the base of the leading edge of the wing.
Only lipo packs we <personally> have run is the Kokam 1500 x 3
Bungee launch or a dolly setup like the picture shows. Like Carl says I too only know of a few people who tried HL. I would not even attempt it myself <I like my Sniper>
Thanks,
Mark

thanks for the help i think im going to go with 2 of the 2100 3 cell thunderpower batteries for my mega 16/15/2 .i bought this thing from hobby barn thier instructions really are bad.well i tried to put in 8mm for my elevator throw but i can only get 6.85 mm for the up becuase the elevator is hitting the bottom of the jet.is that enough throw if not what can i do to get more, wasnt sure if anyone has had this problem.also does it matter if i make the hole on the left or the right for the exit of the elevator linkage, just wondering becuase the bottom of the jet is warped a little on the mold and thats where it is hitting, so basically if your looking at where the elevator goes up the left bottom part of the jet is a little higher then the right causing it to hit,so basically i was wondering if i could cut the hole on the right side where it is bottoming out.also had one more quistion i am using hs 55 servos for the wing i was wondering if you are looking at the jet from the bottom on a flat surface should the servos be touching or should the jet be sitting on the bottom of the fuse with the servos not touching just wondering dont want to rip anything out trying to land, thanks for all the help, ted

Finished mine. HET-F18, Mega 16/15/2, TP 2100's. First flight elevon servo came loose resulting in high speed crash. Repaired it and ordered new nose cone. The nose cone arrived 2 days later ( Warbirds-RC ROCKS!!! ). Firmly secured servos to side and next flights were awesome!! Love this plane!!

Could you post a few photos showing some close shots of the intakes and ducts? I am converting a 3D-Foamy F18 to EDF and maybe I can avoid reinventing the wheel if I see what they did for the HET F18. Thanks!

Pilot Smith...
Here is the build guide for the HET-RC FA-18 at www.RTModels.com ; it should have plenty of pics for you to use.

Hi Carl,
Thanks for posting the HET build docs! It didn't have any photo of the intakes but it had a lot of other stuff I can use as I try to make my Foamy propless.
