Great Planes has a small edf out called the Synapse. 26 inch wingspan. I think its around 159 beans w/motor, fan and servos.
Anyone have one of these and how does it fly? The promo video shows that this little guy zips around the field pretty good.
Not 100 mph but fast enough for a little piece of yellow foam.
Been debating about this one and the MPX Twister. I know the Twister isn't a rocket on the supplied motor. Have read
the thread on this jet and seems to me many people trying to run the plane on 2100 batts and the pack just isn't delivering.
However, Multiplex does recommend a 3100 pack for the plane right? From the company video, the plane does fly half decent.
I'm not expecting 100 mph out of either of these planes but I don't want to fly it full throttle just to keep it in the air either.

I thought about getting a Synapse but I think it might be a bet much for me since this will be my first Jet. I'm going to get the Viper Shark from SharkJawToys.com which come RTF for $140. Go to their site for videos. If your looking for an easier model to fly the Viper Shark might be a good option.

The ARF kit is a piece of JUNK!
Right out of the box and the paint or whatever started coming off; do not even think of getting the plane damp because the paint & decals come off even easier. The tail ring was broken and the fan blade had a crack in it. Then there was the Rimfire inrunner motor...
The manual recommends a 25 amp speed controller but make sure what you get fits. I ended up putting the 25a ESC in my mini Ultra Stick.
It looks like the ARF kit is put together with left over RXR parts or RXR parts that are not good enough for the RXR kit. This is not the first bad kit I have gotten from Great (mediocre) Planes. This is not just Great Planes but Horizon as well; I had an ARF kit come apart while flying - Horizon replaced that one.
Never again!

Considering there's no Synapse thread out here other than this one, I figured I'd come here. First off, has anyone added a rudder to this plane? Some tail modifications would be required to get it straight, but it could work. Also, has anyone added landing gear? That would be helpful, especially for pavement takeoffs/landings. Let's keep this thread going since it's the only one. Oh, and as for the paint problem, just paint over it in -erherm- solid black acrylic craft paint. The yellow is plain NASTY!

i was thinking of maybe getting one. i can fly anything,so no problem there. is it that cheap? i was thinking of the RX ready model, with a 1500 mah 11.1 volt li-po and a castle creations mini RX. the vid showes good fast flying and for the price it ain't bad looking. it should skid in on the grass ok. one of the model mags just had an article on it. it sounded good but one never knows until you have one..............any more input? thanks........RON

RC groups has a thread about this. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...66d10&t=713791
i've had mine since may and i really enjoy it. just watch your cg. have some foam safe ca and excellarator on hand because the wing tips tend to break off, but can just be glued back on.

I bought one of these, but have had trouble launching it. I tried it twice at full throttle and it crashed both times. Went to the right so fast I had no chance to correct. My thinking is I should not be using full throttle.
If anyone out there has any tips I could sure use them.
Thanks

Hello all,
Would it be posible to use this lipo?
1800mAh Capacity
3S - 11.1 Volts - 20C Continuous Discharge
Continuous Discharge Rate of 36 amps
102mm X 35mm X 23mm (4.02in X 1.38in X 0.91in)
161 grams (5.7oz)
The plane is on its way and this is the only Lipo I have available a this time, any coments will be apreciated.
Thanks.

Only checked a few blogs on the Synapse but both have mentioned a launch issue, anyone have similar or corrections on this, as have one of these yellow birds on the shelf..BEST ..<>..meanwhile have had tremendous luck with an unusual plane from Readytoflyfun the Thunderbat with gyro on the ailerons, it wasn't quite a piece of cake as I'm normally a slow flyer, but pulled it off with over 60 exciting flights, its behavior was tweaky with the supplied RTF gear abit coarse on throws but finally mastered and its been a trip...hope to hear more on this Synapse..<>..
Wish I could answer the larger lipo question on the Synapse, believe it calls for up to a 1250MAMP battery, likely might pull it off with the larger battery but beware of too much weight, as heard this mentioned somewhere...take my info with a grain of salt as yet to fly this yellow bird..<>.

do yourself and you wallet a favor and don't waste your time or money on a synapse. they are the most awful thing in the world to get flying. throwing them is just a joke..............they go nowhere, except right into the ground. they a foam piece of crap and when it' hits the ground twenty feet in front of you, it's over but the....shout. even with the motor screaming ,which it does it don't have any thrust to get it moving. i ain't no newbe when it comes to planes or helis for that matter.so buy something else, or read all these threads and make up your own mind. money is to short today to waste it on a piece of crap like that foam piece of sh...........go get a real ducted fan if you can offord it,or get a real plane with a prop on the front.................NUFF SAID...................RON

Im on my second incarnation the first got too close to the ground at high speed ground 1/ synapse 0, but that aside these little jets are great fun to fly when you get the hang of them, they fly best at full thottle due to very little wing area. They have to be launched at full throttle and be ready to make quick corrections, i also found by cutting the rates back it helps heaps when flying for the first time. When doing high speed turns you have to feed in a bit of elev because the wings tend to want to drop too much, again due to wing area being small and maybe not quite fast enough. These jets are not for beginners but when mastered they are good fun and get along at a fair old speed. i am now looking to upgrade my motor and run a 4 cell setup this should really make it go.

Anybody know how to get product support from Great Planes? After running the motor in my Synapse for 3 minutes at 1/4 power the shaft broke and the fan came off breaking one fan blade in the process. I emailed [email protected] 2 days ago and I haven't received any response except a automated reply about 3-bladed props.

I'd go with the Twister..I've had one for over a year, stock motor and fan, 54Amp Castle T-Bird esc and 3000 mAmp/20C battery. Not lightening fast, but decent. You can easily upgrade fan and motor later.
A faster plane would be the new ParkZone Habu. A few more $$$, but I think it's worth it. It will be my next EDF; Has removable landing gear....a plus for me as our field has a nice paved runway.

Cute little plane....and FAST!!! It was a handfull on the first takeoff but after it was trimmed it was a lot of fun. Yes, the paint is peeling and the control surfaces don't appear too firmly attached but it flew. In my opinion, i have never seen a reciever-ready kit that didn't include a battery. Just my observation.
Luckily i had a couple of small three cells on hand. Don't know if i would buy one but it was fun and free!

I got a Synapse EDF as a gift and have a question for those of you who own one. I am using Spektrum DX6i with an AR500 receiver. After following the set up as directed for elevon mixing, I ended up with the left stick directions mixed up and I can't seem to find a solution. The usual set up of up and down movement producing lift and descent are now moving the plane left and right and left and right movement is producing lift and descent. Has anyone else had this problem? What 's the solution? Thanks!

Thanks for the info! I have found the reverse throws on my transmitter, but it only changes the direction of the ailerons not the potentiomters. I will keep trying and if all else fails, talk with horizon hobby.

My first flight was about 5 min in duration, after a few poor launches it was flying. Very slow but flying, trying to get the trims set was a real handfull and did not want to fly unless full throttle. Even at full throttle it was still very slow in the air. The videos I have seen were nothing like the performance I got out of the stock set up. I was rather dissapoinited with this RTF's performance to say the least.[&o]

Glad you got it squared away. You need to always pay attention to the manual when setting up mixed controls like elevons. I learned of your issue just like you and scratched my head for awhile until i finally got it figured out. Let us know how it flies.
