Yea Rusty it flew great a pleasure to fly, I am using 2200mah 18C and 25C batteries I was not really keeping track of the time but I say about 5 to 7minutes. If I have time tomorrow I'll take her up again and keep track of the flight times.

The ESC stays real cool in the intake duct but the battery gets HOT. I widen the vent in the bottom of the electronics bay and I may put a small hole under the nose to get a little more air to the battery. I have spackled and sanded the top of the Typhoon to get it ready for paint. I think I am going to remove and rehindge the control surfaces, I don't like the gap. I think I am going to get just foamie plane kits without the electronic from now on, I'm pretty much redoing this one.

You sound like me, always tinkering lol.
I'm suprised the battery got that hot, especially if the 45amp esc wasn't even breaking sweat. That thing should be able to cope with the draw easily... what brand lipo is it? do you have a watt meter?

Ah okay, i can see why those might have got a bit warm... i was thiking you were using a 2200mah 25c which would be more than ample! I think the stock battery is probably pretty marginal for the power this thing draws, keep an eye on it!

I have some pictures of my Typhoon in my gallery if anyone want to check them out, I'm going to add the 2 bombs to her tomorrow.
Let me know what you think. I am very impressed with the way this bird flys and would recommend the Typhoon to anyone. You just have to paint it to my it look sweet.

they actually come with the kit... pretty cool lol.
I'm sure you must be able to buy those sort of things separately, not sure where though. Perhaps someone else can help you out!
Tarro - looking sweet! IMO a bit of gunmetal on the exhaust tips would set it off a treat, but looks great as is. I'm thinking of trying to emulate this pantjob, might be a bit difficult to get a good result without an airbrush though. Still, can but try!

Thanks Rusty, it's my first time airbrushing and it was not as difficult as I thought it would be. Where did you get that picture, I thought I was being original.
Do you have anymore and did he use Gloss paint on that Typhoon?

It was over on rcgroups, think it belonged to a friend of the poster... no details on what paint was used alas, but looks like some sort of gloss.
I might have to buy myself an airbrush... just a cheapo one.
here are the other pics, and a video:

Lovely looking bird... once I've made sure It's not going to become a lawn dart straight away i'll be aiming to do a similar job!

I painted mine with sherwin williams house latex paint, work a treat.
I broke the front Landing Gear strut on my Typhoon today, it snaped at the flat center part of the shaft. I was burning through the batteries today and so I went and bought an E-Flite meter and the motor is pulling over 40amps. I am going to replace it but I don't know what I should replace it with, any suggestions?

did you sort out your problems tarro?
I STILL don't have my typhoon... they were supposed to be in just over a week ago, still haven't got anything and the hobby shop are doing a very good job of ignoring my emails asking about what's going on. I might have to cancel the order and get a refund if this is how they treat customers who have given them not insubstantial amounts of money.
That unfortunately would leave me the option of either going for a different model or buying one from the states, as no one else seems to stock these things in europe.

I am waiting for a new motor from Sapac America, it should be here today I'll let you know how it goes.
Rusty if you have not ordered an ARF version of the Typhoon cancel your order and do so. They are $115 and Eat Sleep RC has them, all the electronics on the Typhoon suck and they have a bad batch of motors as well.

Yeah I have ordered the one without electronics... it cost about the equivalent of $140, but once you feature in international shipping/charges it's probably pretty similar.
Of course the main difference is I would actually have it, rather than being ignored. If I haven't heard anything by tomorrow I'm going to call up and cancel my order.

I still have not gotten the new motor yet, it's been a week and I'm beginning to think they forgot about me. I would not recommend a Sapac plane to anyone after what I'm going through to get a RTF plane in the air.

I got the replacement motor today and it seem to be working as it should. It's pulling 23 to 25 amps at WOT and the battery does not get hot. The fan adapter that came with the new motor made the fan wobble and vibrate so I put the fan adapter from the bad motor and that fixed the problem. I will try to test fly the Typhoon tomorrow if I have the time and I'll post the results.

good, hope you sort out the problems then!
That seems like a much more reasonable current draw.... I still haven't heard from the guys about mine yet, I have sent them a do-or-die email requesting to actually get a response or cancel the order. We shall see.

I tried to test the Typhoon today with the new motor and she was such a dog it did not even take off, Sapac sucks and I would not recommend them to anyone. I have ordered
1 x HET 6904 EDF unit - 70mm with 3.17mm adapter (HET6904) = $39.99
1 x Typhoon EDF-2W 450W motor for 70mm fans (HETEDF2W) = $59.99
from EJF, this set up pulls 450 watts. This should do the job, I hope.

yeah that should do the trick... although you'll have to make room for the slightly larger fan.
Let me know how that setup goes. Wherever I order from now I'll definately go with the bare bones model - your experiences have only reinforced that for me!

I recieved the motor and fan from EJF yesterday and put them in the Typhoon. I tested it out and it's close to 1 to 1 on the thrust, she floats out of my hand at WOT pointed straight up. I had to move the battery all the way to the front to get her to balance but it's right on with no added weight. I think this thing was designed for a 70mm fan set up. I'm test flying her today and will report back later.
