Have you seen this one Tianci. Mega 16/25/3 on 6S. Blinding quick. Might try it myself if I figure out how to fit a 6S3700 pack in the darn thing. Wish me luck. Off to maiden flight my 2.2m Yak.

Ditchit -Yeah watched the video ... its fast. I am too lazy to fly such a big plane ... 2.2M ... hehehee ... don't you think with a 6S 3,700 pack she will be like a flying brick? I am thinking EVO25 6S 2,170s to keep her light. Gonna finish my FJ tonight, will be quick. The try to maiden her by Wed if I can ... so its going to be Mega 16/15/3, APC 4.75 x 4.75 and Flight Power EVO25 4S 2,500. I am happy with a pitch speed of 170 mph.

I ran the figures on ECalc and on 3S I can still get 132 mph pitch speed on a 5x5 ... that's pretty decent especially when I am only pulling about 32A. I can still outrun most of the 40 sized nitro planes ... heheheheeee ...

At the speeds you guys are flying, do have a lot of expo programmed into your radios? What about your servos, do you guys have the control rods in the hole with the shortest throws? I've had my FJ for a few weeks and feel its just to quick with standard settings.

I use 60% expo on just about every model I fly. It's all down to personal preference ultimatley.

Flew my FJ this morning but CG was too far forward for some reason. Landed fairly promptly and tore off the rear part of the fuselage. Easily fixed with some gorilla glue. Maiden flight of my 2.2m Yak went really well though, which made up for it.

Guys,

The Funjet in this video is faster:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U871_...eature=related (camera work is not good).

This Funjet was measured 1 MPH slower than the 150 MPH Funjet in the post above… but that was on radar and with a nearly spent pack. So it may be capable of closer to 160 MPH runs.

Assuming that it may have been thrust limited due to small prop, I believe the 16/25/2 2650KV would be better with slight advantage in every dept. than the 16/20/2 3100KV on 5S.

ditchit,

You have the BEST battery possible. No other battery when running any of the 28mm MEGA motors can help a Funjet fly faster.

I believe your battery is KING as far as any Combo of MEGA and Funjet, not even a 6S-3700 can do better due to combination of KV and cell counts and prop size for needed thrust (Without going to HV ESC for 7S+ operation with lower KV).

So no need for fitting a bigger pack, you’ve done the hard work already and have the best pack…The guy in your video had a 1700KV motor and the cells were not even working hard because the motor could not take much more amps.

Of course there is other brand motors with different KVs.

I honestly believe you can hit about 160 MPH with your 5S-3700 25C pack at the 85A range with right motor…and it would have a much easier time of it then the 5S-3300 in the video above (in this post). May fly even faster than that with more power from same pack.

I use 60% EXPO on high speed Strykers too.

Have fun,

Gryphon

Now the landings are an issue ... at first it was the launches ... heheheheehehhee ... hey seriously ... you flew on 5S? Mine is almost ready, just have to decide on the ESC, I got to none to spare so I need to get one.

I run the rods on top holes. If you have a comp. radio you can change the throw in the radio. I use dual rates. Low to fly high to land or to do crazy stuff at low speeds.
Remember that you can adjust the thrust angle on the FJ to help the plane fly level if your running a Large batt. and the CG is super nose heavy.
Buy added some up thrust it will make your servos not work as hard to try to keep the plane level.
With the mods. I have made on the FJ it has a problem slowing down to land. i have to land at 10-20 mph as it just wants to keep going.
On the next build-coming soon-I'll go with a little longer elevon so I can slow it down. May copy the org. foam elevon design - we'll see.
I can see the plane twitch when I shift into high rates at speed - hey you got to know what happens
FLY on
HOW about some more vids.

Maidened my FJ on 3S today ... what a total let down! The motor tached only 23K whilst ECalc says about 28K. ESC was set on high timing, I will try again later with a 3S 2,500 and see how she goes. Total disappointment ... but the plane flies nice ...

I think there is also a video out there of a funjet or a microjet with thrust vectoring, except that the person actually uses a real turbine. From what I can remember, it's been around for about 2 years somewhere in Europe and the guy has brought it to several places to demonstrate the capabilities of a turbine powered funjet/microjet with thrust vectoring.

I don't remeber where I saw this, have any of you guys seen this too...I saw it some time within the past 4-5 months on the web.

Back to my Funjet to get it ready for tomorrow now I've conquered my Yak project. Going to push the motor a little harder. Using a 4.7 x 4.7 APCe last but have got a 5 x 5.5 APCe (cut down from a 6 and balanced). Got these numbers. Think I may get a motor for 6S next... 16/25/2

17.34 Volts
43.2 Amps
0749 Watts
? RPM (Tomorrow - bad light at mo)

Thanks Tianci. My mate reckoned the numbers didnt seem right compared to other tests I've done with other props. So I stuck to the 4.7 x 4.7 APCe for our club picnic yesterday. My mate Murray turned up with his 3S powered FJ and I whipped his butt on every pass....but he did fly for about 5 minutes longer than I did. I've removed the wing tip pods from mine and cut down the fins by an inch. To much fun flying this awesome piece of foam.

Ditchit ... hey you are up so early, I just had my lunch! Intentional? of course NOT, we are not the Blue Angels etc. Someone going th wrong way? Nope ... its a huge field of 1,000 m x 500m and all carpetted by grass, there is no club so there is no right direction to fly! Hehehehehee ... but its good no?

Yeah, intentional. I work from 0700 till 1500. Means I can get home and do some building or even some flying now it stays light until 2000. Ripped out the wheels from my Yak at the weekend so has taken me most of the weekend repairing that. FJ came home in one piece though. I wonder why I bother with larger models.

Ditchit ... oh man the big Yak ... sigh ... I have grounded my MidWest CAP 232, now am thinking why not sell her and stick to only 40 sized EP max ... I was happy with the FJ, just plug and play, no hassles. Maybe I should not bother with the Joneses ... seriously, I wanna see a video of your prop at WOT! Come one make me happy ...

My FJ will go 4S this week after I get a RX pack in, seems my LHS has some 800 mAh pack that is light. I wanna see how light ...

Finally took some video of my Funjet today. A handful of fast passes in this vid but the last is the fastest I think. I'll hunt around for some doppler software unless someone could help me out and analyse it.

Ditchit ... I have to say that was a really 'lousy' video, I mean all you hear is the sound of the prop and you don't see the plane at all ... you better not send it to the Cannes Film Festival!!! Just kidding ok ... when I saw the bungee, I was thinking ... Ditchit ... Bungee ... you understand why ok ... Seriously, she looks F-A-S-T ... I am getting bored of my 3S and need to go 4S soon but I think I shall have to try out a 6S. Lemme think about it as I flew my FJ the other day with 2 packs of 3S in parallel and its handling was ok. Great stuff Ditchit!

Thanks Tianci. Was a lot of fun yesterday. I got referred to some doppler software (WaveOsScope) and I may have done it wrong but I got 250.07km/h which is 155.4mph.

Link to WAV file below if anyone else would be kind enough to analyse and tell me how wildly off I am.

http://claregrace.brinkster.net/rc/pass2.wav

EDIT: Chap on RCG reckons it was more 105mph. [] Never mind.

Ditchit - who cares ... did you have fun? Yeaaah you did I am sure! That matters more ... 105 mph only? If it were then you are foolish for going 5S, I feel its more. My MJ on 3S does 85 mph, timed over a distance and by radar ... your plane is a lot faster, I would GUESS about no less than 125 mph.

I had 2 challengers to my FJ this week. 1 was a friend who said the loser will hand over their plane to the winner but changed it to the winner will sign on the loser's plane. When he fired his FJ up I thought ... sh*t ... I am done for. He launced and was FAASTer than me! The I launched to meet the challenge ... we zoomed and he was faster but then after like 10 secs of WOT he cruised ... man the wooos got his set up wrong! He cannot go more than for like 10-15 secs ... I can go WOT till my LVC kicks in. Hehehehee ...

This afternoon had another 3S challenger ... he got it wrong too and he lost. They seem to think get the hottest motor and it will kick butt ... how mistaken of them. We shall not teach them the black art of EP right? All those nitro heads ...

Had loads of fun Tianci and that's whats important. I thought I was cool fast but my mate JT turned up with his F5D model today. If I was doing 125mph his was doing 170mph+. Complete scorcher. So fast though he cant fly it below 50 feet. There's limits on speed for the FJ. Gotta start looking for a moulded airframe for some super speed.

Ditchit ... can you say FVK? Bandit or Boomerang ... the Boomerang will be absurd on 3S and a brushless motor. Small like a sparrow but it will be the speed of a Sparrow missile!
