Default Cheap engine block for conversion.

Found these on Ebay and seems like a good engine block to convert to a RC plane engine.

Looks a lot like a Poulan engine, it is a 45.2 cc engine.

It's a Stihl copy.

I have three MS250 Stihl chainsaws and they have excellent power.

I have a couple extra engine units and have admired how well they adapt to model use.

Hello, have a couple questions if I may, did you make your own conversion parts for the three MS250 s or did you have someone make them for you? I would like to convert the same engine for one of my planes, haven't had much luck finding someone who will make the prop and carburetor adapters. Thanks.

While that price certainly grabs ones eye, I'm not sure going from a top brand like Stihl or Echo to a Chinese clone would be a step in the right direction. Then when you deal with coming up with a suitable mounting system, an adapter for the carb and prop, provision for an adjustable ignition sensor, and buy a carb, ignition, and muffler, you're going to have some bucks invested anyway..... in a Chinese engine.

I have considered all of the above but I have also seen chinese engines come and go and the Stihl and Echo seem to be always around and that's precisely the reason I am looking to do a conversion. This past week I went was looking for parts for 2 GMS glow engines (american made - I think) that I have. They worked great for me but good luck finding parts, they are discontinued. The price yeah sometimes it doesn't grab my eye, but because they seem to stick around the longest, parts are plentiful. I just saw that CRRC engines re-did their website, and while looking around I found a 40cc engine that looked exactly like the Stihl/Echo engines, so perhaps they are realizing the trend that I'm seeing. Therefore I still want to do a conversion. By the way hope your back is feeling better av8tor1977. By the way have you checked your inventory of engines to see if you have anything available that I could take off your hands? Thanks

Hello. I was considering the same conversion of the "Stihl" block as you are. However, after reading and absorbing AV8TOR 's comments, and believing them to be very valid, I have decided not to. Although the offered block is stated to be a replacement for the well respected Stihl engine, there is no guarantee that the parts are interchangeable or that parts for this engine will be available in the future, as one can expect to be for a genuine Stihl engine. Your inquiry of AV8TOR if he has an engine for sale is a good one and the course I would suggest. AV8TOR 's reputation for quality and dependable engine work is well established and I am sure his products would serve you well. However, it is your decision. Good luck.

Sincerely, Richard

I did get a chance for just a little bit yesterday to look at some of my engines. Looks like I have a nice Kawasaki 50cc that I could do for you, and I already have a Bowman ring for it. I thought I had a good Echo 58cc, but when I popped it apart I found that it is not so happy inside. I do have an Echo 63cc that I could order in some Caber rings for though. I have others, just need to go check out my storage...

To conversion guys in general. It is getting harder to find good conversion candidates. The manufacturers have been forced into making variations of engines for smog purposes that don't work so well and that I personally don't recommend using. They generally use a weird two barrel carb setup, and I am seeing a LOT of them burned up because they run so lean. I wouldn't use one myself.
