I bought this saw today. 111cc I think it's about 6.7 cid.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]
Anyone ever converted one like this? Any problems to watch out for? How is the power on this engine?
Now all I need is a plane for it. Any ideas? Keep in mind that I like aerobats and I fly IMAC. Kit or ARF is fine.
Thanks

From: Gaston, OR,
they are a good engine just built a little stout for compared to the saws you will come in under 5 lbs for the engine.Anything in the 1/3 scale size will fit the bill.

or if that is to much these are fun and with that engine just a whole lot overpowered ARR ARR ARR

FWIW...The 090 cylinders were used by Dale Herbrandson, builder of the 280 and 289 twin drone engines we use in our race planes. The bottom of the cylinders would break off after about 100 hours on the dyno....About 26 hp in the stock version..The saws had a governor that restricted the rpm to about 7000, we turn the twin 9000+....New cylinders are getting hard to come by, about $350 with a piston...

I was thinking about building a Mike Hurley Extra. I've got the servos, and other radio gear. There is a guy at our club who cut his own kit with a laser of some kind. I might contact him and see if he'll cut me a kit. Now if I can just get another friend to cut the cores for me, I'd be sitting pretty. Mike has the templates for the cores and will let me borrow them.
Another plane I was thinking about was the Lanier Giles 202 35%

Or the Lanier Laser 200 33%
http://www.lanierrc.com/lrcprivate/r...r33percent.htm
It might be a bit small for the engine, but can you imagine the vertical-- even here at 6000'?[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]
I need to get the engine converted first. Plenty of time to make up my mind on a plane.

I got the engine in the mail today. Looks good. Engine is very clean inside. It's one of those that will need to be cut up with a bandsaw. It feels REALLY light.
No carbon build up on top of the piston. Cylinder looks spotless, no scoring or marks inside. Will have to replace crank bearings, no seals on the back one. It has an outer shell with a seal inside, but I'll cut that off and replace the bearing with a sealed one.
I've been eyeballing the Wild Hare Giles. Can't find a single bad comment about a Wildhare product. Everyone seems happy with the quality and construction.
