I picked up a Homelite 18" chainsaw that has the Homelite 45cc engine. I have never converted a Gasser before. I've tried searches and I've visited the RS website, but haven't come accross a step-by-step for this engine. Is it a complicated conversion? Can someone whose done it tell me what's involved more or less? All I've gathered so far is cutting off the shaft that sticks out the rear, cutting off the chain oil resevoir, and buying a prop hub adapter. There's gotta be more.

You've pretty well got the situation at hand.
You might search on here for Homelight 33's & 38's. They are the same block. There are pictures and considerable discussion as well as links to other sites.
You might also search on here for Poulan 33,38,46. They are close. The Poulan 46 doesn't have a way to hold the carb on and the coil does not bolt to the block but to the case.

From: Rockwell, NC,
I just converted one of the newer 45cc's that does not have a carb mount, only a raised boss that I threaded and tapped. Then I machined a piece of bakelite to fit, then threaded the bakelite to hold the carb. Seems to be working ok so far, turning a Bolly 20x8 at 7200.

Hello Frank, Theres not really much more to it than that. You might want to remove a little extra material on the carb manifold. If you have the new style Jim has come up with a good idea for replacing the rubber connector. If you buy a conversion kit from RS Engines it will have the prop hub assy. and the mounting tabs needed to mount the engine
