I'm going to build a Lanier 1/4 scale clipped Taylorcraft and was going to use the Brillelli 36GT, but I'm not sure I can get the engine quick enough. I've always wanted to convert my own but have a little to learn about doing so.
What would be a good motor to convert for this project? The clipped version spans 83" and should come in at 14-16#. I'm looking for a bit above scale power, not hover power, but enough to push the aerobatic capability and enough to get out of trouble.
Thanks
Bob

I believe in all comparison and the parts listing ive looked at the echo CS3600 chainsaw is the same engine Brillelli uses.I am going to buy one from the auction site as soon as one becomes availible and convert it and check it out.I hope to buy one this week.I have a 30cc homlite trimmer engine on my sons Bals USA DVIII,84 span,14lbs RTF dry.Flys it real good.Have to do alittle dive to loop but its scale and basiclly flys at half throttle pretty easy. The only other thing might be a G38 used and then lighned up.I dont believe theres much between a Mac 32 and a homlite 45 thats easy to convert.Brillellies 36 is a hard motor to beat especially with the rear exhaust.Im going to send you a pm.Maybe somone else has somthing different that im missing.I basiclly only stick with echos and stihls. And a husky once in a while.

The flwwheel sensor, hub,EI,most all of the parts wouldnt be that bad.The worst part is going to be the block.Ill go look at the echo site and then call my dealer and ask what the short block would be.I looked at e_bay last night and there was one on there but the person ran it without oil and its siezed up.At last look he was still getting over $30.00 plus around 20 i believe for shipping.Theres still a lot of good parts on saws even when there siezed up.Im going to go look at one of my saw stores and see if they have any short blocks.I know for a fact that a couple years ago i bought a short block for my 24cc echo,it was $125,the same price as a repower kit.[wich only includes cylinder, piston, ring[s],and maybe the upper rod bearing].I dont know if i can say this here but check the classifieds here on rcu,in the gas engines theres a brillelli 36 for sale.Did ya see the thread started on the ryobi 40cc.Its got a zenoah cylinder.$119.00 for a brand new engine aint bad.evrythings already there to convert except for prop hub.A hub would only run about 20-25 dollars. If ya needed a little extra wieght just leave the mag on.Ill call my dealer and see,but he wont cut me no slack.

Thanks for your help, Buck. I did check out the thread on the Ryobi 40, looks really interesting. I hopped on that Brillelli 36GT here in the classifieds. I think that'll be a great motor for that plane. I may end up converting the Ryobi since I can follow that thread and it would teach me a ton about these motors. Thanks again.

Hi Buck, I have two echo CS-3900 engines converted using parts I purchased from Keith before he sold BME. The conversions RTF with ign, muffler and H9 mounts weight is 56 oz. They both start very easy and run great. The guys who bought BME frof Keith have all of his conversion parts.

What prop and rpms are ya getting.I wonder what engine he was going to make out of those.I dont remember an engine about that size.Anyway,i looked again at the echo 3600 and i dont think its the one that brillelli uses. His engine states 36.3cc,so his engine is from a 3700 or 370 block but the intake doesnt match unless he turned the crank around.

Hi Buck, The echo 3900 engine turned 6950 with a BME 20x8 prop, seems like good numbers for a start. I have been inactive for health reasons lately so I haven't got much to tell. If you are interested in new echo short blocks, go to: http://farmex.now.tc/catalog/index.php?cpath=30. When the site opens you will see 404 error.look down L/H side of page, click short blocks, click echo. You need to know the block # or chesk each one till you find what you want. The 3900 is SB 1013 for $154.97, the cs-360 # SB 1086 $127.00. If you have your own machinery you could build some good engines as cheap as the far east jobs. btw the cs-520 BME50 SB 1080 is $190.00 Later George

Oldtimer, I just called the Farmers Exchange 1-509-586-3101. The man I talked to said they have only sold 2 short blocks in the last 2 years. They have to special order them he says? He said you can buy A complete Echo product cheaper on sale at the right place. We where talking the 25-30cc units. They do list 65 different short blocks. Thanks for the imfo...I did not think the prices was that high for echo short blocks! Best Regards capt,n

Captjohn, The price for some of the short blocks seemed reasonable to me. You having your own machinery could build your parts for conversion cheaper than a quality built factory job. I had Keith of BME assemble one of the CS-3900 for me and bought the parts from him to convert the other one. SO I efectlvely got two BME 40cc engines for around 300.00. I did not buy from farmers EX, I got both off of E-. George

Hey,thanks for the pics and nice looking engine.I have an echo 45cc im doing right now so ill have to wait on a 3900 for a little while.I foiund a short block but i dont remeber if it was a 346,3600,or 3900.Ill have to go search it down again.I went to the site also and those prices are at least,if not just a hair cheaper than what the echo dealer close to me sells to me for.For instance,i paid $129.00 for a 24cc short block. But he wanted $99.00 for a cylinder kit.

hello Buck, Is that echo 45cc from the CS-440? I have one I have been puttering around with, if it is the one with the three part block. Anyway my local echo dealer can't get any parts for it. I need the cylinder gasket and the oil seals for the shaft. Have you had any problems like that? George

Nope, its from the PB4500 back pack blower.Ill have to go look but i believe its a cw engine.Doesnt matter, but the crank for the hub is long like a ryobi long shaft and it has a flat keyway all the way down the shaft. So ill have to make a hub that slides over the shaft, somhow make a flat keyway, then just use a nut on the threads. Its a large shaft also,at least 3/8ths.It would be nice to use the other end but theres hardly no meat or threads there, just enough for the starter pawls to bolt on and thats it.Ill get a pic up maybe.Have you tried[bocabearing],thats where i get all my stuff. To order you go my the dimensions.Say your seal might be a 15x35x4===15mm ID[shaft size]35mm OD,block size4mm-seal thickness.I just ordered a seal for my A$M sachs 3.2.
