Hi all,
Just out of curiosity, if you look externally at the HF-Modules FP-TK-FM and the FP-TQ-FM, they look exactly the same, and they even fit into both transmitters. I've got a Futaba FC-28, using the FP-TQ-FM and a 9Z WIIC, using the FP-TK-FM. In the catalogue, it say's that these HF-Modules cannot be interchanged. Does anybody know how these modules differ internally, then?
F.y.i : both modules are in the 35MHz band, and the TK version is not available in the 40MHz band, however the TQ version is available in every band.
As everybody always types here : Happy landings.

We are the Futaba service center in North America. We're sorry, but we're not familiar with the TQ module. It's not available in the Western Hemisphere. The only module we have available to work in the 9Z transmitter is the TK module, which is available on 50 and 72 MHz.
If the TQ module is used in the FC-28, then it's essentially similar to the TP module, which is used in the 7U, 8U, and 9C series transmitters. We'd conclude then, that you cannot use the TQ module in the 9Z transmitter. We don't know if the 40 MHz TK module could be tuned to 35 MHz by the service center. It also may be a problem with the transmitter's certification in your country. That module may not be certified on 35 MHz. That's something you'll have to take up with your regional Futaba service center.

Thank you for your reply,
I'm actually looking for a TK module in the 40MHz range, and in Europe it does not seem to exist. Only the 35MHz version. In Europe, for R/C Flying, the 35MHz and the 40MHz band are mostly in use, and legally certified. It differs a little by country, but 50 and 72MHz is not legal in countries of the European Union.
This reply is a little confusing to me; Did you mean 50 i.s.o 40MHz? Anyway, in this catalogue I have, the TP module is indeed available in the 35MHz and 40MHz ranges, but is listed here for the FF-3, FF-7 and FF-8. I would think it is not possible to re-tune the 40MHz module to 35MHz, the freq. spread would be to great. I've got a little scanned image here of the catalogue :

The FF-8 in Europe is the Futaba 8U in the U.S., but if you say that the TP module can be used in the 9Z I would be very happy, although from this catalogue I don't get the impression that it's recommended.
Futaba 8U :
Futaba FF-8 :
So my final questions would then be :[*]Can I use the TP Module in the 9Z?[*]What is then the technical difference between the TP and the TK?[*]Is there in the U.S. an TK module in the 40MHz range?
Regards, hoping you can help me with this, and happy landings.
Richard

The Futaba TP module cannot be used in the 9Z transmitter. Only the TK module.
50Mhz is a frequency band limited to modelers who possess a Technician-class or higher Amateur Radio license.
A module on the 40MHz band would not be available in North America. Frequencies in the 40 MHz band are not permitted for R/C use.
Your best source of information would be the European distributors of Futaba R/C equpment.

We don't have any listing for a Futaba distributor in The Netherlands.

Thanks Bill,
I have an HAM Amateur licence, so that would not be a problem. Anyway, thanks for the reply. If I get any more information on this HF-module adventure, I will post it here for your information. Sometimes it's a real hassle with all those differences between US, Japan and Europe.
Happy landings...
