Default Ignition Issues?

Hi Guys,
I am trying to get my YD-A 56 running and the engine will not fire. There looks to be a large gap at the hall sensor but I am getting a spark when I flip the prop but it feels very weak. I stuch a screw driver into the plug cap while flipping the prop and I barely feel s spark. I have tried a 4.8v battery and a 6.0v battery and I am getting the same results. I also tried a different ignition and same results. I tried spraying a little starting fluid and it will not fire. I tried wiring the battery straight to the ignition and no fire. Any ideas?
Thanks!!
Anthony

Got to remember back to basics,
I forgot to check and set the plug gap, it was less than .010 I opened it up to the recommended .020 and shot some starting fluid into the cylinder and it is running fine now. Was running a bit lean and quitting on the high end, 1/2 open on the high speed needle and the engine is running fine. Pulls pretty good with a 23x10 prop.
Later!!

Starting fluid has no oil in it and will result in scored piston/cylinder. You should not need anything but the fuel with oil that you intend to use.

Sincerely, Richard

Try WD-40. The vapor is flammable, and there is lubricant in it. Have used it many times in the past, on magneto ignition engines, not so much on electronic.

If you choke the engine good....fuel & oil is there. A little staring fluid is ok...but just enough to help start a engine. Also most starting sprays I have used, does say there is lube in it. OK... Once more choke ...or... prime till wet...add a tiny shot of starting spray is fine. Works on about any engine...if a little sense is used. Capt,n

Ok, I have not used starting fluids for a long time and back in the day they were just ether in a spray can. We used it to make Diesel fuel. Good thing they now add some lube. Thanks for the update, Capt'n.

Sincerely, Richard

I use starting fluid on my chain saw after it has sat a long time between uses. Any starting fluid I have bought over the last few years has lube in it and it appears to be a fair amount. It leaves an oil residue behind when sprayed. Properly used though, any starting fluid should be OK (lube or no lube) as no liquid should ever reach the cylinder! The natural lube residue in the cylinder should never be washed away. Most people use way too much starting fluid .... only enough is necessary to reduce the flash point of the gasses in the cylinder to make starting easier. An overly rich or lean mixture of gas / air in the cylinder will ignite easier when starting fluid is used. Too much and you get the all too familiar arm jerking kickback that most people experience.

The engine ran fine today for the maiden,
It was a short flight as my throttle servo mount came loose and the engine went to idle. All my fault I did not epoxy the mount properly. I dropped the nose and set the Cub down. Nice short flight.

Nice having a 50 acre sod farm to fly at. I can line up in any direction to match the wind, I don't have to worry about anyone else while I am flying either. Great place to maiden a new plane.

We flew winch launched sailplanes at a local sod farm, but the owner would not allow fuel planes after some spills killed his premium sod[]

Sincerely, Richard
