i certainly agree with you on some of the models out there being duds.
my point in this thread is not to raise anyones back hairs, but rather to point out that when someone like Tower (Hobbico or whatever) sells something, they should be held accountable for the mishaps due to a part being defective.
they've been told about this, but choose to advertise as they do and to me that's a crime.
Jody ships the DLE's with genuine NGK plugs.
ValleyViewRC is where i will buy from for now on.
we all know why as well.
in regards to sending the engine to Hobbico, i hold little faith that they would honor the warranty to keep me from paying, but would indeed say the related issue is my fault. i will send it to Jody.

From all reports, Hobbico is trying to do a good job with the DLE warranty work. The problem comes from the many newbies buying gas engines from a newbie parts vendor. Hobbico has never been set up to deal with the more experienced modelr, and does not carry much in the way of supplies for the giant scale modeler. In days past those graduating to gas engines had obtained a lot of experience along the way and made different part choices with larger models. That education is woefully lacking today, hence the need for RC blog sites.
Newbies by definition generate more problems than the products used generally do. That's just the way it is. Because of their lack of sophistication they make poor component selections and generate a lot of grief. They also break things because they use them incorrectly. That's one of the things that some of the old timers/old farts are here to help prevent. Of course that's dependant on a newbies desire to listen.

If you want an engine that comes with real CM-6 you could always spend twice as much and buy a DA, 3W, BME.
Or a DLE from Jody. Mine came with 4 of them.
By the way, none of those companys are going to replace your plane if it deadsticks either.

Just a wild guess....but I think a good share of the newbies are doing this gas engine thing before it is too late. Wait too long and this "last " chance to do a nice little or mi- sized gasser is gone. You know...pasture time....Moo Moo.

It seems like I get the mostbumps on my airplanes from Hanger rash. The finish is safer when I fly them. Sure wish the guy with me could have run the video camera on my first flight & landing on my Giles 202.Maybe next time...no...for sure next time there will be video! Capt,n

Actually, I purchased 8 Denso plugs because at the time I couldn't find the NGK plugs at a reasonable price.
To me, DLE is not in the sparkplug business and don't need to furnish one at all. But its nice they do so perhaps you can see that the engine runs. Like SuperTiger glow plugs, usually good for one run and then discard.
Modelers need to seek liability for their own actions and the use of any products from themselves. Not the manufacturers. Otherwise there wouldn't be a "DLE" type alternative to us.

Clay

Soon as you get the DLE engine if it does not have an ngk at least, you should throw the spark plug away or get rid of it and put either an NGK cm-6 plug on or an CM6 Iridium Plug.
The Iridium Plugs last longer and are less likely to fowl.
We at Razor Hobbies feel that the Iridium plugs are the best bet when it comes to choosing a spark plug for your engine.

First, NGK does not make an Iridium CM-6 plug. DLE is marketing a CM-6 type plug under the Iridium name. That's a full copyright infringement btw. Based on what our gov is currently doing to correct those issues any non NGK plug entering the states with an Iridium label may not be coming much longer. NGK does make Iridium plugs, but not a CM-6. Perhaps try something like a CR6HIX, but they sure won't fit our engines.
As for lasting longer than a CM-6, how was that information derived? The DLE plug has not been in existance long enough for that information to be accurate unless a series of plugs has run continuously for better than 200 hours each. If that is the case, what were the engine serial numbers, where were they run, who conducted the tests, and where are the run comparison plots for verification?
Need to get your facts straight and recognize that there are some people out there that have been working with this stuff for years, work with new ignition designs and concepts, work with various plug types, and know products pretty well. That fails to take actual engine running into consideration, which would be a formiddable task to exceed.

The Facts For The Record:
Iridium is a naturalchemical element, anyone can buy it,use it, advertise it, or sell it, no one can copyright or trademark it.
NGK has trademarks for the names "Iridium IX" and "Laser Iridium".
DLE does not market spark plugs of any kind.
DLE lists the replacement spark plug for their engines as CM-6.
OEM DLE spark plugs are supplied by Rcexl.
Rcexl does make and market an Iridium spark plug under the Rcexl brand name, it is designatedICM-6.
Nowhere does Rcexl or DLE use the brand name NGK next to the spark plug designation CM-6. (Exception: Rcexl has a web page that shows for clarification, 6 different CM-6 type spark plugs including NGK. Rcexl makes and sells1 of those 6 sparkplugs and the Iridium ICM-6 spark plug)
"CM-6" or "CM6"are not copyrighted or trademarked names or designations, any manufacturer can use CM-6 or CM6 to designate any spark plug, bicycle, brazier, or Popsiclefor that matter, they wish to make.

OK ill make it simple
Iridium Specifications:
Designed specifically for the performance enthusiast. Iridium Plugs offer extreme ignitability, improved throttle response and superior anti fouling
* Fine Iridium tip ensures high durability and a consistently stable spark
* Iridium alloy has extremely high melting point, perfect for today's high-tech, high-performance engines
* Outstanding acceleration, high fuel efficiency and durability
* Ultimate design, technology and performance.
Plain and simple it lasts longer runs better and improves fuel efficiency.
I run the Iridium spark plug in my engine and I see a significant difference and improvement.

We are talking about it now in just swapping all of the spark plugs out with the Iridiums.
I will comment on what a lot of people have said when testing the spark plug.
Some say that there's no real improvement when you go to the iridium.
I however disagree considering i have tested the plug in 2 engines and both have experienced the same improvement in fuel efficiency. I'm not saying your going to be going from a 25 minute flight to 45 minute flight.
I'm not saying that at all, what i am saying with the bench test that was done. We saw a jump of 12% improvement overall. That means run time, cleaner burning and general performance. The iridium spark plug helps you achieve the maximum performance and potential out of your engine.

Better spark plugs may come later down the road as technology develops and greater steps are made to effeciency. But at this time the Iridium plug is the best plug you can buy for your engine.
