<div style="margin-bottom: 0in"><div style="margin-bottom: 0in">I just got my DLE85 and my first impression is that it is a nice DLE engine. I do wish they would have swept the spark plug back like the DLE55r, some builders like to stuff the larger engines in the cowls and use them for ballast instead of using a pound or two of led. The muffler is oversized and not really useful for those that are using this engine for there scale frames. Aftermarket mufflers will be available in a few months. I am building my own to fit my plane. I like the throttle linkage and the chock has two arms, one on each side for multiple choke linkage. I like the ISO mount and we will see if the bushings last. I&rsquo;m sure they can be replaced during maintenance. So far I like the looks of this engine.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0in">

the iso mount is impressive,I machine radial engine mounts for all my war birds,I am not a big fan of stand offs,to much flex for me.just a thought.

Has anyone flown a plane with this engine? If so, any comments on performance
and reliability?

Thanks for the link. The motor is loud with the supplied muffler. It will
need a header and canister muffler for use at most club fields! Seems
to have plenty of power for the 33% size model.

Tom, 7100 rpm using a 26x10 Xoar prop means ~12.0hp. Is that using a tuned pipe? or a typo?

It's been 2 months now and we still have not seen rpm results on different props by TBM and Valleyview RC.
Please post them guys.

right out the box it will spin a xoar 26x10 @ 6700 rpm.... and a zinger 26x8 @ 7040 rpm this engine has just as much power as a da 85.. maybe not as much as a zdz90 but at almost half the price

We are still trying to find the time for this, we've been completely swamped! We have not forgotten about it yet though so this thread WILL be updated once we get the video posted!

This is very similar to our findings, our 25x10 MSC prop is pretty wide so 6200 rpm translated to a Xoar 26x10 is probably spot on at 6700 rpm.

Just ordered the DLE 85 from TBM for the new HobbyLobby 12' Laser-cut Telemaster. Given the numbers from the previous posts the Tele, at 32 lbs, should have ample power to be a great glider tow (or go straight up on its own). Will be using the stock muffler with TBMexhaust button to keep noise down. Prop will be a Biele carbon 26x8. I will be posting a building thread elsewhere on RCU once I start the build (should be a week or so). Would be great to see other users' experience with this engine, including performance numbers.

dle85 on a telemaster? that's way over kill. theres a guy in our club with a 50cc on his 24 pound telemaster and its overpowered. just be careful not to blow the wings off.

On the DLE85 mounted upright there are two nipples on the carb one on the top and one on the bottom. The manual says nothing of these or witch one is the gas in. Or what the other one is for, can anyone tell the answer please. I am planning on doing a test run tomorrow. ThanksTB

The one on the side pointing up toward the cyl head is the fuel inlet.
It appears the other one is for carb reference pressure.

I was guessing that but was not sure. I will be testing today and later in the next week or so with a 22x10x4 blade prop. For now I will be testing with a 24x10 and I will be watching the rpms to keep them under 6000 + -Is there a need to put a hoes line on the carb reference pressure nipple?

I got the first test run in. Today was more about my muffler then anything else. The muffler was strong with no problems and the exits held up. I wanted to get some heat readings too. The exit plats reached 150 max. In the air they should be cooler. The engine ran flawless. Started right up and I kept it between 3000 and 6000 rpms. I am using a 24x10 so I am governing the rpms at 6000 for now. Next week I will run the 22x10x4 prop.

It looks like you know what you're doing but remember you don't want to run these on the ground for too long or break 'em in on the ground. Seeing that you were monitoring temperatures puts me at ease but a lot of people have failures due to overheating on the ground!

Yes I only ran it for a couple min max, just enough to make sure me muffler worked, kind of like you would do with the plane just get it running and go. I will be breaking it in in the air once the frame is ready.

Xoar 25x10 at 6700 is ok, but not impressive.

26x10 @ 6700 not a 25x10... I think the 26x10 is the smallest I would go with..

I am building a Ziroli P40 (94"). Have used DA and 3W in past on planes but have decided to try the DLE 85 (at $475 through tower). Do not know weather to mount it to the firewall or use the new iso mounts. any ides? Has anyone tried this engine on this large a plane? any help will be appreciated.

Mike, I'm not familiar with the Ziroli P40 but I have the DLE85 in my TFGS P-47. Haven't flown it yet, I'm almost ready for the test flights. The stock muffler is terrible, really big and not user friendly for scale builds. Not sure if a Pitts muffler is available yet. The DA85 has a pits. For the money it's a great buy. I am a big DLE fan. The iso mount is good and I would use it on this big engine. Time will tell if its as good as the other DLE

I have mine on a 1/3 cub which I might be buying this wrap around muffler due to the fact I had to cut half the cowl out just for the muffler and jug, so i'll just buy a new cowl... last I check its up to 6800 with the 26x10

I will have to agree with an earlier post. Why stick the plug right straight out the top of the cylinder? I will probably buy this engine regardless but may wait to see if a version II comes out with the angled plug. I was going to buy a Brison 5.8 but the 46 lbs thrust of the DLE 85 may edge out the Brison 5.8 on power. I will most definitely put a Bowman ring in the 85 before I fire it up. My previous experience with the DLE 55 leads me to this decision. The difference in performance is undeniable with the Bowman ring installed.
