Default Having problems with my dle 20 ignition.

Everytime I flip the prop the ignition doesn’t “click”. Any idea what might be wrong?

battery is fully charged and all wires are connected. Only reason I can think is the ignition isn’t working and I must replace the ignition?

can I use an zdz re40 ignition on a dle 20?

TIA

Click? What do you mean by click? If you are talking about the ignition firing the plug when you turn the prop, the newer ignitions will only fire the plug when you turn the prop at cranking speeds or above. Simply turning the prop won’t fire the plug. If you are talking about another problem then a better description of the problem is needed.

If you can hear the spark when trying to start a DLE gasser of any size, you very likely have a spark plug boot that's bad, allowing the spark to jump to ground (the click you are hearing). Happens frequently on less than graceful landings where the plug boot takes a good bump, requires that the boot be replaced. Not particularly hard or expensive. Many (most?) of gas regulars keep a spare.

If you pull the plug, attach it to the boot, and ground it to the head, then you can flip the prop at speed to see if it sparks.

Other than that or an ignition tester its hard to say but if you're just rocking the magnet past the sensor then no, it won't fire it.

No need to ground the spark plug to the head when testing for spark. If the cap is installed on the plug properly, the metal cap and braided outer jacket provide the ground path.

What newer engines are you referring to that need flip speed to get spark ? Every DLE ,RCEXL, CH type ignition I've seen will fire while passing the magnet under the sensor , regardless of speed . The only type ignition I've seen that require flip speed over 200 rpm would be some 3W and DA engines . Just curious so that I know which ones require a good flip speed as well . Thx

Any of the later Rcexl A-02 ignitions have this feature. Can’t quote an exact date when they started doing this but I first noticed it several years ago. Many people complain about this when trying to set the sensor using the spark as an indicator. Just time using a sensor tester then no issue.
