I sent my 50R in yesterday and only cost $15.00 bucks. I think you would be better off sending the whole engine back to them. Like Steve has pointed out they like to run the engine up before shipping it back.

Talked with DA today..I think I was talkin to Brian but I forget..Anyway he said it doesnt matter if the carb is rotated or not. for the update...He said however you send it to them they will return the same way..So if you already have it mounted dont go re-doing your linkage!!

You can add the pulse line to carb on about any Gas 2 stroke engine. Then you do not have to contend with pulse holes that do not line up. Also like RCIGN says you can rotate carb to any position for better throttle push rod alignment...ect. Here is a photo of one done years ago for a carb that was on a Homelite engine. The nipple on the far left was added. Hope this works!!!

Guys really no need to send the motor in to DA. I talked to Brian and he send me all the parts along with detailed instructions as to how to install them. It was a simple repair took less than 45 minutes. Believe me or not it actually ran after the repair.

Did they send you a new connecting rod and crank or just the plug and pressure nipple/phonelic spacer?

A new spacer mount along with all the other parts needed for the repair. Great instructions with pictures and explanation on how to make the repair. STEP BY STEP.

I never had a problem with the old engines. I did send mine in to have it updated, as i understand it all the new engines are updated. Give Brian a call at DA. These people are great and so are their engines.

I can't complain about the DA50 or the company.
I've had a problem with the Ignition, sent it and the motor back. Got a new igintion and they updated the motor (bearings, connecting rod, etc).
I have always had the motor idle issue. I was able to manage it, but was not happy with this. Sent it back in, carb mod was done, and DA change out a couple of bearings and the crank (update). They even overnighted the motor back to me.
I have never had such good customer service............period. With any product. Other then the idle issue (which is fixed now), the motor is rock solid, and a great performer.
Not saying anything bad about any other motors, but you can't go wrong with a DA motor.

I got my DA 50 two years ago and am just getting around to finishing a scale Yellow P-40. After spending better than two hours reading everyones postings I am glad to say that I am taking eveyones advice and sending it into DA to have it modified. Many thanks to all you out there that stuck with this engine and got DA to respond with appropriate upgrades. This is a terrific forum to voice our views and opinions and really get something accomplished.

No. I spoke to DA the other day and they took quite a bit of time to talk to me about the pressure tap deal and the crank. Mine is a year old and has ran like a clock from day one. Spins a Mejzlik 23x8 at 6600. Very strong engine.
I asked if I needed to send mine in and they told me if I wanted to they most certainly would put the new crank in for me and get it right back. But mine has no problems and I don't want to pull it. They went to great lengths to say it is NOT going to break in a hover or etc, but the engine wil start making a clicking noise and they told me you could probally fly another flight or so before it lets go. IT is not going to snap when you go to pull out of a hover. Mine has never had the problem some guys have about lifting the tail and it quits. Mine has always ran like, well like a typical DA.
There is no reason to send it in to move the pressure tap. Yours may have zero problems. Mine has none and thousands others don't have the problem either. Try it first. I bet it is fine.

Mine had that clicking issue almost from the first run and I thought it was normal...go figure. I flew it all last summer and sent it in at the end of the year only after the noise became noticable in flight. DA replaced all the moving parts in the engine and the cylindar and sent it back in a flash. Now it doesn't click any more and runs as smooth as ever. Of course I have to break it in AGAIN but I'm not complaining.
Mine also has the old pressure tap and has never had an issue with quitting on landings or when raising the tail. If yours runs fine then I would say just leave it alone and don't feel that you MUST update it simply because it's available.

Thanks guys, I was going to talk to DA about what to do, you guys may have answered my question though. Only thing I am afraid of is the rod going bad in the middle of the summer when its flying time.

Well, mine has been 2 weeks 3 days since I dropped it off at the post office. I am still waiting for it's return. In the mean time I have a second engine that is new and has the updates. The new engine I have is #3069.
FWIW, my old engine was serial #2266 and it had none of the updates.

THought I would pass this allong, I E-mailed DA asking the status of my engine. Here's what I got:
"Right now we are held up a couple of days waiting on the rod pins for the DA 50's. We are supposed to have them late this week so we should be able to get your engine out of here most likely early next week."
In case anyone has sent off their engine and was concerned with it's status I thought I would pass on the info.
Cheers!

Just got off the phone with them regarding getting my engine updated (carb mod and crank pin). It arrived there on Mar 21/05.
They basically gave me the same answer as to when the parts would become available to them.
I am a little impatient, but as long as I get back an updated engine, it's worth the wait.
