Bryan,
lawn boy ashless should be run at 32:1 mix.
it is possible you fried the motor
.
I always run the mixture called for on the bottle of oil not
what the engine manufacturer give as a general mixture for their engine. All oils are designed with an optimum mixture ratio blended by the manufacturer, thats why i follow the instructions on the bottle or can.
There are varying opinions on this but this is what i have done for years and never had any problems.

The engine is probally OK. Go to 25 to 1 for a couple of tanks and richen up both needles.
You can NOT preset the carb needles. Altitude and temp and humidy are different.
So go to rich and let it smoke and bluber for a couple of tanks and then start leaning out the fuel/oil mix and the needles too.

One lesson learned here is if you heard the engine in distress as in "it slowly died out", you should have shut it down and checked things out. I've seen guys with glow engines take off, and I can hear the engine isn't happy because it's lean, they slowly lose power, but KEEP FLYING, and then when it finally deadsticks, they wonder why. Listen to your engine, it'll tell you whether it's happy or not.
<SOAPBOX MODE = OFF>
I definitely agree with Lou that 50 to 1 is not enough oil mix for Lawnboy, but also agree with tkg about those "pre-set needles". That is more likely the culprit for your too lean and hot running engine. Even though you do it a lot less often with gas engines, you STILL have to set the needles for conditions where YOU are. there's no one size fits all. Open them up 'till they blubber like tkg said, then let the engine tell you how far to lean them down.

Sorry you stuck your engine, but.........SHEESH..How many times do we have to say it......
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SINGLE, CORRECT, NEEDLE SETTING FOR ANY GIVEN CARBURETOR....
Carburetors have adjustable needles for a purpose..
There are too many variables--prop size, altitude, fuel mix, etc.How many companies test run the engines before shipment ??
I DEFY ANY MANUFACTURER TO TELL ME THAT SETTING THEY SHIP THE ENGINE WITH WILL BE CORRECT 100% OF THE TIME..(Unless it's set way rich)....
Walbro carbs come from the factory already set at about 1 1/2 out on both needles..It WILL work there, but sometimes with the above result, stuck engine from being too lean...
If you're lucky TKG is correct, set it way rich and run it far a while that way...

The engine was running fine and did not seem unhappy untill it slowly died out in about 10 seconds. I will go to 25 to 1 and then 32 to 1 after that. I will richen both needle also how rich should I make it. It there any lenth of time I should not let it run longer than say 10-15 minutes? The engine is an rcs 44 twin. I am used to glow engines and run them with the oil slobeing out the exhaust will the same happen with the gas?

I am not exactly sure what RC showcase recommends to break in this engine but they recommend 40:1 with a good quality petroleum based 2 stroke oil on their ZDZ engines. After that they recommend 50:1 petroleum based, then 50:1 synthetic. I would not run the engine of the ground for extended periods of time. Run it long enough to set the idle and get a good transition then go fly the plane. Keep it on the rich side for the first few flight. Listen to the engine, if something doesn't sound right get the plane down and correct it.

Same thing happened to me running my new RCS 140. What is it with these RCS engines?. I have never had such problems with any of the Zenoah engines I have run.

Hi there new to gas ! Hey I have been modifying & running certain weed eater & chain saw motors for my planes for some time now & what the rest of these guys are telling you is correct.
NEVER trust the factory settings! Also, as with alcohol motors, as they break in, they lean out! so you might have to richen the high end every min. or two if you are doing a full throtle break in run. Also, I have learned from my NASCAR days that racing fule will run cooler than pump gas & give more power but you must run a cooler plug or close the gap up on your present plug a couple thou. and get the same effect. This is the only fule I use for my gas planes. 110 + octain! What a BOOST! & they do run cooler & smoother. I also like 40 to one, 50 is pressin it, more so with a new motor. It doesn't sound to me like you stuck the motor, but you might pull the carbs off & see if you bent the rods.
If you rotate the cylinder to top dead & look in the intake port you should be able to see the rod ,& if it looks slanted.... it's time for parts. some times they will still run like this but just wont seem to want to rev up. Good Luck, I'm Here for ya bud.
