G23 UNRELIABLE. HELP NEEDED!
Hi, guys,
I've bought an used Zenoah G23 engine. It's almost like new with less than 5 hours of use. A friend of mine disassembled and cleaned the carb and put it back on.
Now, the problem:
The engine starts after a few seconds of starter applied to it. And it remains revving if I don't touch the throttle. However, if I do so - even a click up or down - the engine stops...
I'm using a 16 x8 prop and 25/1 gas/oil. There are no leaks in tank or lines... I'm guessing it's probably a carburator problem?
Any ideas on how to solve this problem?
Thanks a bunch in advance!
Flavio

Silver,
Great idea, but I think he did his best which i admit... isn't much.
Seriously, where could I buy a repair kit or even a carb?
Thanks!

Give the carb back to the friend and have him do it right this time.

Send a PM to RCIGN1 to see if he recognizes the symptoms. He'll have some good advice for you. Likely he'll see this post anyway, but why wait. Your location makes advising where to buy difficult for me.

A PM is a private message. At the bottom of your last post there is a tiny dialog bubble that has "PM" next to it. If you have enabled PM's in your personal settings you will be able to left click the PM bubble and a new window will open. Your recipient would be RCIGN1, and he's an absolute Zenoah expert. He also knows good places to buy stuff. I don't since all I do is go to a saw shop and have them order it for me.
I see Elson is in the background somewhere. Perhaps he'll jump in.

What RTK is saying is the carb. plate might be turned to move backward. Look into the carb. and you should see the treads of the screw that holds the plate. If you see the screw head it is backwards. Wayne M.

Check that the pulse hole in the carb base is aligned with the pulse hole in the base gasket. Then make sure that both of those are aligned with the the actual pulse opening . Then check that the throttle is moving the correct direction for the intended results.

Under the plate with one screw there is a micro screen that gets dirty or gummed up with dryed gasoline.
This is a common problem with any gas carb. I use a needle or small pin to remove the screen which is about 6mm or a 1/4 inch in dia.
I then hold the screen with forceps and clean it with carb cleaner.
Also check the carb gasket and make sure the pulse hole is not covered.
