Help me out guys.. I've read these threads, but Bob is out of DL's. Anywhere else I can get one? Or anybody recommend another engine? Other than spending 700 on a DA that I hear so much about throttle transitions? I'm putting it into a GP Cap232. All I need is the Power Plant. Thanx.
I will put in a second on Tom Denney of Valley View RC, I have bought two DLs from him, one had an issue with a muffler, had a muffler to me in about 3 days. I have also bought no less than 5or6 50cc airplanes and have been completely happy, one yak came in with minor crowl damage and he replaced it. I like his JFK props and they come drilled for the DL & DA . The web site is on the other post, he only ask that you respect his time on Sunday, If you have to leave a message ,he will return your call. I only wish others that promote selling products in this hobby would return calls when using a answering machine. Ed Cobb

paul, i do have a hole in the firewall, with what i have it flys very strong, just not getting the high rpm like some are, maybe it will come with break in and a new prop.
how ever i am having a problem with engine stumble , fly level and pull hard up to do a wall or go into a hover engine stumbles real hard, just on the up not the down? what do you think?
presure inside the cowl over the vent hole in the diaphragm cover is all i can think of, i flew it sat after going through the fuel system with all new fuel lines, running a filter walbro clunk.

I also have had very good luck with Tom at valley view. He is always willing to help. And about the prop drilling. You just tell him how you want the holes on your prop like numbers on a clock and he puts them there. Very nice job.

I don't know how good you are at adjusting a carb so I'll just say that with my motor it was in the fine tuning of the needles. And its not just the high or the low speed because they seem to work together on the midrange. And thats were my burble was.

Sounds rich.

You can always run a line from your metering plate to the inside of your fuse and into a pill bottle. Works great, if that's your problem. BTW Make sure the pill bottle's not air tight. I do this as a matter of course when building the plane.

im ok at tuning did it for yrs in karting, with the tilitsons,
i leaned and richened because i thought the same thing, didnt help, full to near empty on the tank doesnt matter either,

AL, my set up looks just like yours as far as the mounting with the hole behind the carb, the tube for the air hole in the plate maybe be just what i need, thats where i was thinking the problem lies. what did you use for a nipple? and did you tap it?

I believe it was an 8-32 tap and I'm pretty sure the hole is the right size for the tap. You buy an 8-32 muffler nipple and use that after tapping the hole. Remove the plate before tapping and after you screw the nipple in use a Dremel to grind it off flush with the underside of the metering plate so it can't contact the diaphram and puncture it. I drill the hole in the cap of the bottle large enough to slide the tube in slightly loose. That way I know it's not airtight. There is another method where you solder a piece of tube into the hole and bend it so it's right next to the carb intake (a 3W design I believe) but I have never used it. There are those who have to great success, just not me.

I put a vent line inside fuselage for the metering diaphragm covers on all my gas engines. It takes about $.25 and fifteen minutes (after you've done one). Go you your local hardware store and pickup the brass fitting in the plumbing aisle, solder it to the to the cover, drill a hole through the cover, and put silicone over the existing hole. The brass fitting is used on the small polyline that is used with ice makers and furnace type humidifiers.

Odds are you won't but check the rub through on the plastic spiral wrap every flight. Just a quick once over. If that fiberglass edge gets to that plug wire it will saw it in half in a flight.

Al, here is how I fixed that problem. A little electrical tape under the rap and a tyrap.

That should take care of any potential problems.

xoar 22x8, jxf 22x8, vess 22b, vess 23a, there's lots more, just haven't heard anything good about tbm props. Order a jxf from valley view rc and they will drill it for you.

I use a mejzlik 23 x 8 ideal for 3d....feels pretty damn good to me, but i never tried a Xoar or Vess prop. I am about 100 feet above sea level with a low ambient temp (UK!!)

Looking for advise about cutting a spinner out to accept a larger prop. I have used a mototool with a grinder several times, but every time the aluminum clogs the grinder. Is there a better way?

I use a metal carbide cutting tool, these can be found at most stores that carry dremel products. Best discription I can give is looks like a gear on a 1/8 metal rod, about 3/8 in. in dia.

Paul, Don't know about the pressure problembut that is the best looking cut and fit crowl job I have ever seen. That thing fits better than a glove, I can't figure out how you got the muffler pipe through the crowl to mount the crowl to the airframe. Good work. ED
