Just received my new DL50 a couple of hours ago. Eager to try her out, but can't do it in the morning. I have a batch of fuel that needs to be burned before it goes sour! So, I guess it is to the flying field in the morning! you can't let fuel hang around long or it spoils. Maybe i'll get to some serious looking at the DL50 after I get back.

Forgot to ask, what are you DL50 users doing if anything with the throttle spring? Is anyone disconnecting it? It is rugged, and i can see it as a big battery drain!

I think most of us just snip off the "hook" that grabs the actuator plate. NEVER remove the spring, that permits the throttle butterfly to vibrate and wear in the venturi. Not good. You are right about servo load, it's not good to have that constant spring tension against it, but.... that is an opinion/preference item. Some guys, like QQ Somenzini, leaves the return spring on, and uses a single cable to the servo.

Thanks for the input. I was thinking about unhooking it, but do not know if there is room enough for that. The engine looks well built for the price. I am anxious to try it. Been looking, but so far have not found any oil that made me feel "right". All the lawnmower shops that i have been in so far have either synthetic, or some unknown brand that i never heard of before. Gonna hit the bike shop tomorrow and see what they have on the shelf. Maybe AutoZone has something that's not synthetic?

Is anyone else having success finding Lawnboy Ashless? After trying several places including the local Ace, I searched the internet and found a "dealer". I went to his shop, actually a lawnmower repair place. He told me that it was no longer being made. Apparently, according to him anyway, Toro bought Lawnboy and is phasing out the label. Can anyone confirm or deny this.
Bottom line, I can't find ashless oil in the Sacramento area.

hi all, need some info on rpm s on the dl, i have one on a Q Q yak 85", after a gal at 2500 rpm, and alot of tunning, i couls only get 6000 rpm, on a 22x8 tbm prop, tride all i know on the mix screws to get more, after reading some threads and seeing people getting much more thought it might be the engine, so i bolted on my spare, after break in, same numbers,
i built racing engines for gokarts for years and know alot about carbs so i went to work , was able to pick up the engines (both of them) 300 rpm s, just by a few little tricks here and there but im still not getting the 6700 to 7400 that some claim to get on here, but the throtle response was improve a ton.
these are my first gas engine in the rc planes, had always run apc props on the glow engines, is the vess prop where that much rpm is gained?
thanks for any info you might have

The throttle spring actually does not impose a lot of load on the throttle servo. I once measured it and the number was around 5 oz. It is not a bid deal to a standard servo.
For break-in, Penzzoil air-cooled oil is also good and is available from amazon.com, [link=http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/eppages/pennzoil.php]aircraft spruce[/link]. 8 oz @ $3.35. 32:1 ratio.

A 22B or a 23A are both good breakin props.
The 7400 is lou55, on a 23a, and there was a 7900 on a pt carbon. I had a xoar and was getting 6950 after a gallon with a J-tec pitts muffler. I'm back to the stock muffler and on a JXF 22x8. Its been to cold here to run it again or fly for that matter. So I don't know the new RPM's but as soon as I can run it I'll let ya know.

[size=3]If you are reading this thread and are planning to purchase a DL-50cc engine please be aware of the compression problem that has popped up form time to time.
I received a call from a guy that purchased his DL on eBay, mounted it on an airplane and it wouldn’t start. He said he tried everything but it just would not start. After talking to him I found out that it had no compression, we have run into this before and the problem is the final cylinder hone or lack of it. He said the person he bought it from wouldn’t do anything about it so I told him to send it to us and we would fix it for him.
My suggestion would be to buy your engine from Bob at DLUSA and if he is out of engines then buy it from us at Valley View RC. We check all of our engines before we ship them and I know that Bob does also. Saving a few bucks on eBay will sometimes cost you a lot more.

Xracer1117 :
Are you using the stock muffler with the DL-50 ?
If so, how did you fit the dl-50 into the yak's cowl ?
Could you post some pictures or explain a little about it ?
Thank you

denny, i shortened the stand offs to 2.445 and the stk muffler does rub the cowl alittle i am going to have to cut the cowl alittle to clear it, not what i want to do, but i dont want to spend the 100.00 for the pitts either.

Xracer, how much room do you have between the carb and firewall? Or do you have a hole in the firewall? If you don't have a hole in your firewall you should have about 1" of space between the carb and firewall.

Help me out guys.. I've read these threads, but Bob is out of DL's. Anywhere else I can get one? Or anybody recommend another engine? Other than spending 700 on a DA that I hear so much about throttle transitions? I'm putting it into a GP Cap232. All I need is the Power Plant. Thanx.

Try Tom at Wildhare, he's selling them now also although his web site doesn't list them yet. The second link is to his support forum on the Sukhoi where he talks about them. I've bought several planes from him and he is good to deal with.
