RE: RCGF Engines
Hey outacntrl please let me in on your prop and RPM and all. I have the 45 and I am running a Zoar 20-6 on the breakin. About 1and1/2 gal through it and just tried 20-8 Zoar on it only got 6600 rpm but I have not retuned the engine. Still breaking it in.

RE: RCGF Engines
I hope that you've tuned your engine for max RPM minus about 100? If it's running rich you're not doing it any favors. I would think that you'd be getting a lot more RPM with a 20x6 Xoar. I had a BME 44 and was getting over 7000 with a Xoar 20x8. I've just started running another new engine and after running about 6 oz of fuel through the stock settings I tuned the high speed needle for max and then richened until it dropped just a tad, and then set the low needle for leanest setting with reliable acceleration. I'll leave it like this until I've burned a gallon or so, then retune unless there is an obvious need earlier. These gas engines do not do better running rich during break in the way the nitro engines do.

RE: RCGF Engines
I have couple of gallons of fuel run through my 45 now, engine runs great...only thing I notice is from half throttle to full throttle thier isnt much of a rpm increase....not like I see with one of my glow engines....is this typical with a gas engine? or do I need to do some fine tuning?

RE: RCGF Engines
Very typical of the walbro type carbs we use. I use expo on the throttle to even out the curve a bit. I try to have about 3/4 total RPM at half throttle and then the last quarter doesn't all come in at once. You can make the throttle a bit more responsive by having a longer throttle arm. If my engine is *****g out at 7200, I try to have it around 5500 or so at mid throttle. 3000 rpm is really just above idle on these engines, so if idle is at 1500, high idle at 2000-2500, then 5000 at the midpoint and 7000 at full throttle seems to work well. I set my high and low speed needles then set the stick at the midpoint, then adjust the expo to bring the RPM's down to the desired level. If you have a mulitpoint throttle curve there are just more steps to set.

RE: RCGF Engines
Yea outacntrl and daddysam I know the RPM is only 6600 on a 20-8 but my elevation is 3000 ft. So far on every gas engine I have with the exception of two my RPM range is always several hundred lower than anyone elses. But also I do not have very much run time on the engines. They will never match what ya'll are getting.

RE: RCGF Engines
I have to disagree. I'm at 2500 feet and so I think that there is something else going on with your motor. Either tuning, or a very restrictive exhaust or, a mislabled prop, or timing that's off would be my first guesses.

RE: RCGF Engines
Hey Thanks for the Info are ya'll using the stock muffler on the 45. I am using a G-62 pitts style muffler. I am going to put the stock one on and check RPM and see if it makes any difference. I have already checked the timeing and its right on. I will have more time this week to really fine tune the engine. All I know is the engine run fine and transions really well . I have made 10 flights and no dead sticks but have lost two props on landings. The plane is 16.5 # . Outacntrl keep your post coming with all your comments and I look forward to your Info. I have learned from these forums that everyone has good Info and this helps us all. Daddysam you may be right on muffler restriction. I do not use stock mufflers on most of my planes. Thanks Don

Don,
Keep us posted because I too would like to know if we pay a big penalty for a pitts style muffler. I always thought that they were pretty free breathing. Good luck and post your results!
Thanks
Sam

I also use Penzoil 32 to 1. Se no reason to change.
Do yourself a favor and check this out before you go out to the field. It will answer a lot of your questions. Wish someone would have pointed it out the first day I started.

RE: RCGF Engines
Well, after recieving my 50cc twin nearly 5 months ago I finally got it on the test stand. I mixed pensoil aircooled 32 to 1. Primed the fuel pickup line all the way to carb. Choke on, 3 flips and a pop. Choke off, 2 flips and the engine was running. I let it run for a minute or so and pulled the throttle. The engine died as it was lean. I turned the low needle out 1/8 turn and refired on 2nd flip. this engine idled pretty smooth from the start and revved to 6250rpm with a 21/10 BME wood prop. I have to say I"m real pleased right now. Henry, You have one fine peice of engine here and Thank you.

I've heard from a few guys you loose some power from going from the stock muffler to a pitts style but only 100-200 rpm's.

It may well be that the 28cc isn't from RCGF - It may well be that it is from Aerovates own Factory

RE: RCGF Engines
I'm having some troubles getting my 45 started since it has sat for a while. It fires initially but won’t run for more than a second or two, I’ve checked the ignition, and fuel tank even disassembled the carb and gave it a thorough cleaning. The only thing left that I can think of is the pulse line which looks good or the diaphragm for the pump in the carb. What brand is this carb anyway and where can we get replacement parts, RCGF?
