I have used: Belray H1R and MC1, Redline racing oil, Lawnboy ashless, and Pennzoil for air cooled engines. The H1R is cleaner than the MC1, The Redline is as clean or slightly cleaner than H1R. Lawnboy leaves a lot of crap both on the airplane and in the engine. Pennzoil runs great, but also required a needle adjustment when switching from Lawnboy when running at the same mix ratios. Redline or H1R when I've gone through 2-4 gals. of mineral seems to work for me just fine. I have pretty much stayed with 50:1 for synthetic and 32:1 for mineral.

Another internet forum MYTH...You 100-1 Amsoil people are all the same...Less oil = LESS performance, not more...We raced at El Mirage dry lake last weekend....One of the fastest unlimited planes is a modified P51 running a mostly STOCK DA 170...It DOES turn 10,000 rpm...It DOES NOT run 100-1 Amsoil...Race pilots want ALL the performance they can get...A race pilot would not even THINK about 100-1 Amsoil in his 10,000 to 12,000 rpm race engine ...PERIOD...
We run a 289 twin, use 8% oil...We LIKE the long black streaks down the fuse from the extra oil...
You think hovering around for a few minutes puts a load on the engine ??? NOTHING loads an engine like running WOT and turning a 180 degree turn at the end of a 1600 foot straightaway...
If 100-1 would increase performance, everyone would use it...NO ONE does, we KNOW better...
And have tried every imaginable oil and fuel mix possible in the last 20 years of racing...
LOTS of oil works best....

thanks for quoting that one capt....man I miss Ralph, I just feel better when I read his thoughts like that. I promptly get shut down when I recommend using an oil OTHER than amsoil, though it has been tested to produce more unwanted carbon deposits than other suitable oils, synthetic or not, and of course there's the matter of protection....no comment there. The debate will always be here I'm afraid, though the testing results have been made readily available and pointed out for all to review here. Too many of the right names, followed the advice of someone with the right status, and so the Amsoil snowball goes.

I have seen a lot of 2 cycle engine pistons after being run to the max extreme. My cousin Wyane Koomen from Casnovia Mich held the Worlds fastest snowmobile drag races for ten years strait. His boys drove, but Wayne did all the porting, flow testing, dyno testing and designed the tunned pipes the engines used. Wayne always used Klotz and the pistons and inside of the engines remained super clean. I stared using Klotz also in my snow sleds and then started mixing my own RC fuel years ago. I would not do the 100-1 in any RC engine, knowing there is a better oil. The only thing that I know that happened on my Cousin,s engines is a piston would burn a hole through the top from running to lean. Racing does that! Thanks Capt,n
