I also have used heat shrink for sometime. But I will say the $.35 plastic keepers are so handy, they are what I use now. I usually stock up at the winter swap meets. I think like 10 for a buck.

Hey capt :-)
I have read the pages and now I'm back
with another silly question have ran my engine for the
first time it ran started fine and after a few minutes tweeking
the high and the low end and started again I notice
some black exhaust all under my plane is that normal.
I had a hard time restarting and gave up will try again
when my shoulder muscle recovers
I want to thank u in advance to everyone that has
replied to my problems thanks

I've used both as well as masking tape and duct tape and all are no good over the long run except the dental floss. But you have to cut it off each time and then fiddle with threading it through the wires. When you've got a bunch to do it is too tedious - although I've done it that way for years.
But these clips are really neat - easy and quick to use and very positive. Cummon - you'd spend a fortune on any engine do-dad so 35cents isn't too bad. 30 cents is for the idea and 5 cents is the cost. My buddy went out and spent a fortune on two gas motors and then complained like hell at the club raising dues $10.00 because we now have two fields and he only flies at one of them!! We RC hobbyists are known as the cheapest bunch around - and we all know it. Electical tape indeed !!!!

Just clean where the tape was once in a while....nothing to it..................Capt,n

I use the heat shrink for permanent connections like rudder and elevator extensions, but the clips are really nice for ailerons/flaps when you'll be taking the wing off regularly. I do agree that sometimes these things seem overpriced for what you get, but I think the manufacturers/hobby shops make more margin on these type things so we can have our engines/servos/etc at a price all of us cheapskates like!

cap you are so right..if you find the product you need in your local hardware store its cheap but the second its labelled for rc the price goes balistic.over the years I have found many alternatives for quote rc only items.my latest was rigging cable for tailbracing and pull-pull cables..I went to gander mountain and found braided stainless steel cable by the roll.a 1000 feet for 10 bucks and change. as for servo connectors I have been using shrink tubing as you can go to harbor freight and buy it by the roll dirst cheap.although I occasionally use dental floss as well.I also find stuff at my wifes favorite quilt store as well.

I realize that a lot of people call some other RC people cheap. Well if I did not all my life do things like building my own house, installing all the wiring, plumbing, shingles....everything myself except laying the foundation blocks, I would have been in dept so much all the time...this hobby would not be affordable to do it. I sure cannot buy any RC itemI want. Same way with car & truck...fixed all them too for years. Not because I wanted to...it was so I could possibly buy other things.
I bet the majority of RC people would like to be able to buy more....but they got to stretch their income to the max in this recession we are in.
Like one guy said...I am not ashamed of being poor...its just dam inconvenient!

I buy alot of fasteners for my business, so I get much better stuff like stainless steel metric socket heads and real Nordlocks at a fraction of LHS prices at my industrial suppliers.

Here is a photo of a exhaust (twin pipes) from my Supertiger .60 engine. A bigger version could be made for a 30cc or a 20cc engine. Just a idea I am putting forth! Capt,n

The twin pipe exhaust could br made with a end that is removable and some of the inside clould be stuffed with sound killing material. On a mustang or a war bird...that type looks pretty good! Capt,n

guys,
i am currently reading thru this whole thread.
i'm pretty much 99% sure that this engine is the way to go for my new project.
i want to use a 20" prop, and it seems this engine will do it with ease.
the one thing that keeps nagging me though as i don't know much about running gas thumpers yet is that everyone keeps referring to the use of this engine in 3D type planes.
is that what the DLE 30 was meant for, and not to be used in slow type WW1 models?
intended project to be powered

I ran a Xoar CF 20x8 on my DLE30 and it turned 6500rpm static. My enigne is not broke in yet and I wasn't happy how this prop performed on my Giant Stick. I prefered the performance of the Mejzlik 18x10. It had better speed and vertical than the 20 inch prop did. I feel it was a bit too much load for the engine. A 20x6 would be the ticket or a 19x8 on your project.

thx Super08,
i know the model was designed around the Zenoah G26, but things progress.
time for new blood in this design and you are right, a 20x6 would be right for this kite...........doesn't need to go too fast, just needs power to get it out of trouble.

Some more to think about. If that Tri-plane was designed around a G26 with fly-wheel ignition....that may be the way to go. If you Place a DLe30 on it you may have a hard time getting enough weight in front to balance. I do not know that....but it something to consider! Capt,n

you're right Capt,n and i am going thru build threads to see other equip location.
what i haven't seen is the use of the forward firewall area above the engines being used for the batteries and stuff. you can bet i am going to rework things to try and make this work.
too many good things said in this thread about this engine to not try.

Today I flew my new Gold-wing extra 300 with the new DLE30 I used a zinger 18 6 10 prop and the performance was better that I hope for . I got 7500 rpms.
I flew around at less that 1/2 throttle and it was very fast. Probably the only thing I did not like is the choke . It seams infective I may need to plug the small hole in the plate

Hi Guys, I started to have a little issue with my DLE30 this morning.
Here is a short 2 minute flight from this morning.
The prop is a 20x6 Xoar. Motor is at flight # 8. Fuel/oil is 32/1
I started to have a problem with engine. It was miss firing or cutting out. You can here it in this video.
I removed the optical kill switch before this flight, because it was turning on and off on its own.
Not sure if it s fuel delivery, spark plug or ignition.
Any ideas ????

OK last Newbie question regarding this engine (yes i have one on the way from Tower), and i'm only asking as i'm working on the project it's intended for.
Vibration, how does the DLE 30 compare to the Zenoah G26?
my need to know is so i can incorparate some mods into the nose of the plane.

Frm my experience, if there is any difference, it is not noticeable

you've been a big help on this new venture..........the more i read about all the gas engines, the more i realize why guys have switched from glow to gas...................not electric though.....never understood that one, and yes i tried it. was like watchin TV with the sound turned off
