RE: NEW DLE30!
Hi
I am putting together a GW Yak 55m with a DLE 30. The ignition module is attached to the side of the engine box opposite side of muffler. I have a 4 cell Eneloop battery on the bottom of the engine box to supply the ignition. The Rx is powered by a 2 cell 2300mAh A123 battery which is mounted several inches behind the wing tube( as depicted in the manual).
Upon checking the CG, I found the plane is very tail heavy. It will take close to 12 ounces of lead (yikes) attached to the engine box in order to get the plane at the CG location. Here is my question. Can I move the A123 battery and attach it on the opposite side of the engine box from the ignition module and not have any RF issues. That would place the battery about 4 inches from the module. I'm quite sure the receiver should be as far away from the ignition module as possible but I don't know if a receiver battery must also be far away from the ignition module or not.
The A123 is about 5.5 ounces so by moving it as far forward as possible will save that much dead weight to get the model to balance.
Thanks in advance for your advice.
Mike

RE: NEW DLE30!
Mike,
I have a QQ 73" Yak with a DLE-30, and had the same problem with the balance as you do. I've been flying it with the ignition battery mounted to one side of the engine box, the rx battery mounted to the other side of the engine box, the regulator for the ignition on the top of the engine box, the ignition module mounted to one side of the inside of the engine box, and the throttle servo mounted to the other side of the inside of the engine box. Balances perfectly, and I haven't had any problems yet. My radio is a Futaba 9C with a Spektrum module, and the receiver is a Spektrum AR6200.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Thanks guys. I will move the receiver battery to the engine box. That will sure help in keeping the amount of dead weight down. Will consider moving the engine out 1/4 inch if a lot of weight is still required to get the plane to balance.

RE: NEW DLE30!
If I was to use a weighted washer on the shaft along with the washer and nut for a single bolt hub, would it affect performance a great deal? I need to add about a pound of balast to get the required CG on my new build, this is with lead put right behind the firewall. I was thinking if I could get a few more ounces out at the end of the shaft I wouldnt need so much in the fuselage. I had thought of moving the engine out with some additional spacers. It is on the standoffs that come with it, would half inch spacers behind the standoffs change the CG that much? Thanks.

RE: NEW DLE30!
OK, guys.
I am stting up a new dle 30 on a goldberg sukhio that I've been building for several months now.
I am using s charge switch for the receiver and I want to use another charge switch for the ignition battery.
The question is-is ther a danger of interference if the two switches are close to each other?
There is no room anywhere else because cowl is in the way.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Antique - that's not a spinner - it's a flywheel!
Everwood - Are you building a 73" Carl Goldberg Suqhoi 26M, the model that's out of production? The blue and mustard one? I have that model - love the plane - it's a perfect match for the DLE 30. However, due to a small crash into a tree (due to an engine stall) I need a new cowl. Any idea where I could get one? (I've searched online already). Would love to see pics of your Suqhoi during \ after your build.

Yes it is the goldberg SU 26. Been quite a challenge for me as it is only my third build, but I've loved every minute.
This kit was the first edition with LG on the wing and I changed that to mount LG to the fuselage.
I am just learning how to set up gassers so that makes even more of a challenge.
Maybe I can post a pic later.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Ok, so I added the hardwood spacers and it reduced the needed weight to 8 ounces. Yesterday, I ran the engine for the first time. Once I got fuel to the carb it started and ran like a champ. I put 32 ounces of fuel through it on the ground, got the needles set for good transition, idle and full throttle. I had to get going or else I would have maidened it. Anyway, today I got to the field, fueled up, fired the engine up, range check and took to the sky. It was running great at about half throttle, just cruising around and trimming the plane then the engine started sounding like it had got rich all of the sudden(popping/burble) but, still running. I began to set the plane up for landing, turning on final and the engine quit almost as if I had hit the kill switch. Landed and started running through all the possibilties. The ignition has zero spark. 4.8 battery( 5.3v), took the kill switch out of circuit and nothing. What else to check?

It is both a spinner and a fly-wheel. Very good Idea if you need more weight up front for balance! Regards, Capt,n
