RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
I have opened up the front to get more air in and have a suitable (Ihope) size opening in the bottom cowl.
Thanks for the reminder |

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
Flew the little Hurricane again. Now have five flights on this engine and leaned out, no more popping or four cycling. Turning the 15-8 three blade 9,000 rpm. The power in this 10 lb airplane awsome. Will fly straight up doing rolls until almost out of sight. No room for the stock muffler without really butchering the cowling so I ordered an exhaust hedder from Virginia Model Builders. I'll see how it works.
|
RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
The hedder from Virginia Model Builders didn't help. It was just as loud as the straight pipe. Finally put the stock muffler on and cut out a chunk of cowling. Running about 8,900 rpm with the 15-8 three blade prop. Still more than enough power for this plane.

This is the best gas engine I have. It has been no trouble. Started w/o problems the first time. Adjusted easily and consistantly and the power is great. In my continued conversion from glow to gas, I've ordered another. This one is going in either my Top Flight kit built P-40 or my Top Flight 60 size P-51 ARF. Also bit the bullet and ordered the J-Tec compact muffler although at $80 its a bit pricey. I wish some one built a scale P-51/P-40 exhaust for this engine, but it would cost a lot more than this pitts muffler. Going in one or the other.

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
VERY NICE!!!
|
RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
The P-40 is a bit heavy at 11 lbs 15 oz, but the DLE is actually lighter than the OS 120 FS in it now. Also the DLE has more power than the 120 and can swing a larger prop. So no weight gain and more power. The Mustang has an OS .91 and weights 9 lbs 8 oz and flys better than the P-40. I calculate a weight of 10 lbs 4 oz with the DLE if I can get it to balance with out adding extra weight. With the .91 the Mustang already has the receiver battery mounted in the rear just in front of the tail wheel. If the addition of the ignition battery back there balances with the DLE up front it will work. The .91 weight a little over 22 oz. The DLE at about 29 oz.

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
So the p51 flies good?
|
RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
Yeah, the Mustang flys great. Almost like a pattern airplane, yet with flaps down landing relatively slow and not bad for a warbird. With the P-40, need right rudder going up, left rudder going down, rolls are funky, if you get it too slow and tight in a turn, it will snap out. Added a stall strip to the right wing which impoved stall charateristics with gear and flaps down. It really needs the power of the DLE but I think I would fly the Mustang more, just because it is easier to fly.

I just finished my second project with the DLE-20. It is a Seagull AT-6 75. It has a 71" Wing Span with 735 sq in wing area. I am spinning a SY-16x8 prop at 8500RPM and the Plane weigh's in at 10.5lbs. Here are a few pic's. Cannot wait to do the maiden which will have to ba next month.[:'(]

Based on the thread title...
I install the DLE20cc onto a heli... refer below video, Stable running, lightweight machine... but the tail gyro was not rigged properly for the test flight, it wiggle around hehehe.. anyway it was since corrected. |
RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
COOL DEAL!! i want to do that with mine!! How did you do that?

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
Umran,
Very creative!!! More details and photos are needed! |
RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
+1

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
Umran - Cool! What size heli are you powering with that beast? I've seen pretty big heli's powered with an OS 50 2s, so a 1.20 2s....

some mods on the engine mount bracket, ignition pick-up sensor, throttle arrangement, shortening the engine shaft a bit and it will be okay.... the mod model is TZ90.

The photos show the installation of my DLE20 in the GP300s Kit aircraft. This AC has the 64" wingspand. I am running a 11 oz Fiji fuel tank (water bottle) and the inital run in ran for 28 minutes on 10 oz of fuel. Iwas working the throttle as if I were flying so I don't think there will be any issue with getting 15-20 minutes of flight time on a tank of fuel. The engine was very strong. I was really amazed at its power. I am running a 17-8 prop. Did not get any information on the rpm's but the idle was very low and full throttle sounded good with good transition. Will post rpm and other results as I get it.

Gregg660;
Great to see your video of your Stearman with a DLE20 flying. A few guys on the forum were wondering if the 20 would be enough power on the new GP Waco, but you have answered that question with your Stearman which is about the same size airplane. I used to have one of the Super Stearman's with a Saito 180 on it. It was a rocket. Thanks for the video!! I also had a Waco with a Saito 180 on it. Here are some pic's of the Dle 20 on the Waco. I need to hurry it up so I can fly it. Thanks, |

mesaflyer, Great video. Can you send some photos that show how you cut the cowling for the engine cooling and exhaust. I would love to see what you did to it. Did you notice if it was running cool enough with the setup as you have it. Thanks for any input.

Yes..it has plenty. Looking good. I have glanced at this...but my wife caught me!! That comes with a dummy radial for baffling ..right?? Good luck with it.
