RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
Guys...any advise would be helpful!!...as the cowl is quite big on the kyo spit , i decided to leave it on for the maiden with the DLE20 , i ran the engine up for five the other night in the garage & idle & transition to high seemed perfect!!...i worry, because of the weight/balance etc.
I'll only fly steady...& scale....should it be ok?. Thankyou |
RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
Are you asking if it's OK to maiden the plane with the cowl on? I never fly, maiden or not, without the cowl, adjust the carb, balance the plane with the cowl on, fly and have fun!
|

Flew the Hurricane twice twice today, as we had good weather for a change. Power is great,a going straight up I counted five rolls before plane became hard to see. May have started slowing some. However without a muffler this engine is LOUD. I have an RCGF 20 cc with straight pipe, its not as lound as this thing. I think I will have to see about some type of muffler. Hate to butcher the cowl.

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
Hi
This is a YT Adrenaline 120 ,( made by ESM )that I have fitted with the DLE 20, the install was a breeze the biggest poroblem was deciding on the silencer/muffler. Originally I was going to use a can but at 2 inches in diameter and 12 inches long there was no way I could get a tidy install so I went with the pitts. I figured that the standard box that comes with the engine would be way too noisy. The plane has a wing span of 68" and all up weight about 11 lbs. Originally I was going to fit a Saito 125 but having read this and the other thread I thought the DLE would be ideal and cheaper on fuel. Just waiting for a break in the weather to run the engine up and then give it a test flight Rob http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...b2011_1039.jpg http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...b2011_1035.jpg http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...b2011_1037.jpg http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...b2011_1033.jpg |
RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
Very nicely done! It would not surprise me if it exceeds 100 MPH with the right prop.
|
RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
Very nice work relieving the cowl around the muffler!

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
SpinnerRow,thanks for the kind words yes it is,I took all the H-9 stickers off.I think it looks cleaner without all that junk on it.Flies as good as it looks too!!!Little 20 really pulls it around.Vertical rolls out of sight.I wish I could have put a J-tec Pitts on it,but come on eighty bucks,I could buy some other things that I really "need".
Later Jim. |

ORIGINAL: handyman 220 mpascual Your pic just answered my question as to whether a DLE 20 would fit into the BH models Stuka. Any info on the install would be helpful. Did you use the stock muffler or the J-Tec pitts? Did you have to cut the cowl much for the muffler? Thanks Paul Stock muffler. Installation has no problems with included beam mounts. I've tried with some side dump mufflers but much more cut work needed on the cowl. Also i like the spark plug boot fits inside the cowl, and no hole needed. See the pictures : |

I have the J-tec pitts so I have the option to try that also. The pics help alot. :D Paul |

I finally had a break in the weather, field conditions and off from work at the same time to maiden the PT-17 Stearman. After 4 flights the DLE 20 is dialed in. Didn’t get the fourth one on film. Here’s the first 3 edited down.

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
Well , i flew the DLE 20 today!!...& i have to say it is too good to be true!, i have to pinch myself!!. First thing i noticed at the field...is its lots quieter than the CrrC-pro 26's i have , v-1+v-2's...i'm on std exhaust & its lost inside the cowl completely. Now this is a Kyosho Spitfire-90 & i have to tell ya...its overpowered with thislittle monster of an engine!!..@ 72" wingspan it pulled it up vertical like it had a turbine in there!!!!.....its on factory settings & running a little rich!!...what its like when its run-in i cannot imagine[X(] My experience today has answered many questions for me.....inparticular ESM/YT 72" warbirds...i think this would be a perfect match. I'm going to get another two for my Kyosho P51 & TA 152a Focke Wulf. I flew around under half throttle & that was fast enough...trying to fly scale with a 2s is different than 4s. Yes i can confirm this eats a saito 125a & Crrc-pro 26 for breaky...i can imagine when fully broken in...it'll pull the spit to pieces if its flown on WOT!! no BS. One more thing...fuel tank is std kyosho 420cc, i got a ten minute flight with just over half a tank full still left!?...now that's what i'm talking about, no more glow's for me thankyou.
|

Well, this is the third time that I have tried to download some picture....(Got a notice of a Virus)
I will skip the test flight with the 17 X 6 prop...flies very well... |

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
The Pitts silencer is marketed as a DLE made part for the 20 & 30 along with some cannister style silencers. Its probably made for the DLE 30 primarily, as I had to elongate the mounting holes slightly to line up with the bolt holes in the engine.
I,ll run the motor without the cowl first to see how hot the silencer gets as I may have increase the clearance round it to save burning the fibreglass |

Gregg - to follow-up on Eganwp's message, did you swap out the DLE plug for an NGK CM6? Makes a big difference.

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
After the fourth flight not filmed she was dialed in. No rich popping at all and good transition. Good results for 6 tanks through only. Gave the camera man a break. She was a tad fat both high and low. and I adjusted with each flight. Due to the setup..had to take her down to cowl off, tweek, cowl and all back on and fly. She was different with cowl on and in flight enough to have to do it that way. She's good now. Yeah..I threw the stock plug out and used NGK CM6 from the get go.
Thanks for watchin. Gregg (Gas N Go) |
RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
I think your going to need more front cooling air. You don't show exit air size so no guess. Power requires cooling.
