Sweet report Eric - I wish I could have snuck out this am to catch the re-maiden... I'll grab the vid-camera and see if we can get some good footage.
See you Sat-

RE: PAU 36% Edge 540 Assembly
I got my 36% PAU Edge finished and 3 flights today. I could not have asked for a better day, 75 degrees and winds 5-10. First flight took it easy and flew for about 7 minutes then landed to check it out. Flight #2 and #3 I started to 3D the plane, etc. I am stoked about the potential when I get it all dialed in. Harriers were rock solid, hovers effortlessly and waterfalls awesome. Just a great 3D plane IMO. For 3D I would rate it a 10/10 and I do not think you could find a better 35% 3D plane IMO, and precision (where my CG is) about a 7/10. Here are some pics from today. Flys just like my old Carden 35% Edge, but a lot lighter. No inflight pics as I did not trust anyone to take them with my Nikon lol. I have the following equipment in the plane, and AUW less fuel is 25lbs 2oz, which is awesome considering it has 2123" of wing area. Also IMO this was one of the nicest ARFs I have seen and came with awesome hardware, plus their customer service was very good. After building and flying it, 100% happy with the purchase. Also, the brand new DA 100 rocked right from the start and glad I went with the 100 on this one.

RE: PAU 36% Edge 540 Assembly
I flew my maiden yesterday and it was awesome.Started 3-d'n about 2 min.s into the flight. It just felt so comfortable right away. Easy torque rolls and the harriers were just insane. It just floated down so slow,I had plenty of time to look around to see who was watchingBTW my DA-85 with a J-tec pitts was more than enough power for any 3-D or sequence you could imagine. It also balanced right on the proper CG without having to cram everything up front. I wish I had a decent scale as I'm sure this has to be the lightest 35% plane going.I cant wait until It's all trimmed out because the potential I saw on the first flight was out of sight. No pitch coupling with rudder and only a little with roll, like 2 %.That rudder is way more powerful than I was expecting. Knife edge loops ought to be a piece of cake. Just hoping for more flying weather........Rob

RE: PAU 36% Edge 540 Assembly
I agree, its an awesome plane, thats for sure. FYI you guys planning on running a 100 or 106, you better mount everything as far back as you can. I had to put my rudder servo in the tail on a push/pull and still add weight to the stab tube to get it to balance. With the original pull/pull setup, it was going to take 7oz in the tail to balance it. Just keep an eye on your build if you go with the 100 or a 106. I even had a CF spinner and light vess prop up front to boot. Thats fine though, I prefer the push/pull in the tail over a pull/pull anyhow.

RE: PAU 36% Edge 540 Assembly
I ordered one today! I was going to install a DA-100 but with the tail weight concern I might have to do something different.
Razor - Was the CF lg a direct bolt on or what mods did you do?

PTS, the CF gear just needed to be drilled to match, thats all. However, its not a cheap gear by any means at $150 from Carden. The graphtech #222 is the same size as the stock gear and is only $70. The one frome Carden sure is pretty though. If you go with the 100, just mount everything as far back as you can and you will probably be ok.

RE: PAU 36% Edge 540 Assembly
razor-I just measured the gear and found the width to be 2 inches at the base. The #222 Graph Tech gear shows a width of 1-3/4 inches. That places the existing mounting holes within 1/16 inch of the edge of the gear. Seems to me one would have to modify the current gear mount to move the holes further from the edge. What do you think?

RE: PAU 36% Edge 540 Assembly
I sent the dimensions of the stock gear to GT and he came back with 2 gears, the #222 and the gear for the carden edge 40%. The Edge gear is $120 from them. I opted for the rcsupergear because it looks awesome and is much stronger than the GT gears. The GT gears are also good with the new 4D weave, I just wanted the other one. You do not have to use the existing holes, there are no blind nuts installed so you can always drill new ones wherever you want in the LG plate.

RE: PAU 36% Edge 540 Assembly
Okay guys, here goes! I know I have been talking about this plane since I first saw and flew the 43% prototype late last summer, but I just got home from the field and had the opportunity to fly the 36% with a DA-85, and all I can say is......WOW!!!
I fly the PAU 30% Edge and it ROCKS!!, but the 36% is just AWESOME!
-------------------------DISCLAIMER-------------------------------------
I am a HACK pilot.....been flying for awhile and am learning 3D, have flown quite a few different planes, so I CAN make comparisons, but I am still a stick-banger!!!
----------------------end of DISCLAIMER-----------------------------------
This was the second flight on this particular plane AND DA-85 and I was impressed! I felt very "locked-in" from the minute I took the sticks. The motor ran flawlessly (albeit set a bit rich) all day and provided PLENTY of power for this airframe to do anything thrown at it with ease!
I have been flying my 30% er for two years and still do not feel as comfortable as I did on this 36%!!! Hovers locked in IMMEDIATELY and harriers were the same way (and I am still learning GOOD harriers!).
This plane is a winner, boys!
I thought I would get by on the cheap and just fly OPP's this year (there are TWO at my field), but I am gonna have to step up and get one for myself as I do not think the others are gonna be willing to let go of the sticks!!
I know where my income tax return is going now!!
Can't wait to hear others' comments as they start getting 'em in the air!
now, WHERE'S ALL THE VIDEO???
Regards,
Astrohog

RE: PAU 36% Edge 540 Assembly
Hey guys,
Here is a little video from today of the maiden flight. Motor is pretty rich on this flight so I kept it up a little. Were going out tomorrow and try and shoot some more as it was cold and raining a little today. Anyway, the DA-85 is quite a little motor and pulls this aircraft around effortlessly. I would also like to make excuses for my thumbs in the video. They have seen little use this winter.

Enjoy!

Must be a good day for maidens! I just got back from the field where I did a re-maiden of my 30% PAU Edge with a new engine. I only got two flights on the plane last fall with a Brison that was on its last dying breath. Bummer about that engine, but I replaced it with a new DA-50 and I just love this freaking plane now! What an amazing 50cc aerobatic plane, and I can just imagine how well the larger PAU Edges fly. Combined with the quality of the airframes, it's easy to see how well PAU has their act together. Too dark for pics today, I'll have some tomorrow!

Glad to hear! Nothing like a good ol' DA to make for a great day.
John,
Jeff's got mad skills, you should have seen him on the 36% Edge yesterday. He was a throwing down.

Hey hoser, where were you today? It was beautiful out there! I got to take the sticks for two flights, this baby is light, and the 85 has more than enough power for this plane, its like a foamy, and the motor is still fresh.

Great shots again John! Here's another video of both the DA-85 from yesterday and the DA-100. You wont need a scale to see high light this thing is. There's also a higher res version on the web site.
