Anyone else done any CMP kit conversions? I have done three so far. My first was a 90 Hellcat with flaps usign a E-flight 60 and 6S pack. It flys great and lands at a hover almost. My second was a 50 P40 which I put a E-flight 46 in and a 4S pack. It barely flew on that setup and I have since changed it to a Hacker B50 motor and 6S pack. I haven't gotten it back in the air yet. I also put split flaps on it too. My third, and latest, is a 50 Zero that I put another E-flight 60 in with a 6S pack. It's way too much motor, but the plane needed the weight up front to get the CG right. I just flew it and it's great. Fly's like a rocket and is very stable. Landing speed is high, but not too bad for a warbird. It may need flap too, but I will leave it for now.

Did you put retracts in the hellcat. I have one but I used the air up/air down robarts and I wasn,t that happy with them. The plane flew great on 7s, hacker a50-14l with a 15 3/4 x 13 apc prop.

I used Robart air retracts in the P40 and Hellcat. They work fine, but hang up sometimes and didn't always lock well. I have the locking problem fixed and now just need to put 100 psi in the tank before takeoff and it works fine. The Zero has mechanical retracts and works fine. The Hellcat flys great with the Power 60 motor on a 6S pack. I get over 1200 watts with a three blade 16-10 prop. I got a little more power with the two blade, but the three blade looks much more scale. I just flew it again last weekend and used full flaps on landing and the plane did a great 3-point "carrier like" landing. It lands best at 1/2 flaps with some power. It's definately one of my favorite planes to fly.

I did the P47, Eflite 110, on 6S, spinning a four blade. Made the belly pan (missing in photo) the battery pan. Makes for a quick change over for packs, drop the pan and swap the packs.
Sure beats taking a wing off, or taking the canopy apart.
I'm looking to maybe go a similar route on my VQ P38, using the drop tanks for battery tanks.

I thought of the belly pan idea on the Hellcat, but it wasn't big enough to get the battery in the space. Nice job! I hate taking the wing off and wish I had some type of hatch. It would be nice if someone would start designing larger planes with electric motors in mind. There are some nice smaller kits (.25) with hatches, but nothign 50 or larger. I guess it will take some time before the manufacturers see enough of a market to start making those kits. Hyperion has been making some nice smaller kits and is in the process of making a 50 sized Ki84 to fly electric. It will have a hatch for the battery too. I will get one as soon as they come out. I have one of their P51s and it's great. Larger is better IMO!
I have been looking at the VQ P39. What are their kits like?

Hi I am looking at doing a cmp mustang and was wondering how to attach the motor. pics would be great if you could. I have never done anything like this and I guess I dont want to screw up. Also What kind of speed ar you all getting and how much runway do you need to lift off? Also will they roll on short grass? Thanks Matt

Well I did find one fault over the last week. DO NOT use the included retracts.
My P47 snapped both on take off. It actually plowed two furrows in the ground as it rolled forward on the stubs. Wire in the retracts was installed only approx 1/8" into the body of the retract mechanisim. Approx 9 pounds of bird on a grassy field was just too much for them.
No real damage to the bird itself, and I have a bigger set of retracts on the way.

My CMP Zero did the same thing off a dirt runway. The glue they use is very brittle and not too strong. Other people have said they experienced the same problem. My Hellcat also did the same thing when I missed the paved runway with one retract and pulled it out. No real damage that cannot be easily repaired.

well I got my p-51[50] done. I used the skysharkrc 18.5v 50size conversion. Nice plane. It flys well [except when I pull up hard, the elevator haves will get uneven and the plane will spin very fast] So I guess I need to find a way to make them more solid. Also landing this thing is alot harder than the parkflyers that I fly. It need some speed or it snaps and it wont roll on grass either. I have had it up about 7 times all with 20+ mph winds and this plane doesnt even notice it[my eflite p-47 would be blown out the sky at those winds]. So all in all I like this plane and with a little more pratice this might be my daily flyer.

Add a strip of carbon fiber to the elevator and that should make it stronger. You need some pretty big tires to roll off grass, but then they won't fit in your retract bay. Hold a little up elevator on take off unit the tail comes up then gradually lift the plane off the field. Sounds like a good setup. I had the same setup in my P40 until it caught fire

How does the Lancair fly? Great looking plance. Do you fly out of the field on the Pajaro River? That is one hard field to fly large scale planes from as the water and levee don't allow much room for error. I have flown there a few times and like all the members, but it does take some getting used to.

My latest one. CMP 120 Corsair. I added/changed a few things on it. All internal controls for rudder, elevator, and ailerons. I built my own actuator setups for the ailerons.
Wing is a three piece out of the box, I built mine so ends are removable for transportation.
Built my own tail wheel retract and gear doors. Struts for the mains are from parts I had or made. Retubbed and glassed in the wheel wells for larger wheels/tires.
Canopy is hinged, pilot is removable. He hides the kill switch.
Spins an APC 15.75 x 13 x 3, over 1:1 on thrust and speed around 90 per calcs.
Approx 2000 watts right now, with capability of going to 2700 if need be.
Oh and have already designed my own wing system. Will fold/unfold wings, and actuate a movable wing spar to lock them in place once they are folded down.
That will go in AFTER a successful maiden.

Great job! What's the AUW on that plane? I have a KMP Stuka that is almost ready to fly with a 2000 watt setup and the plane weighs 12 lbs.
