Good to see you say that about the ASP S.52A DarZeelon... I unpacked mine last night

.I believe in giving credit where it is due.
This ASP is an inexpensive and highly under-appreciated engine.
Its clone with the Magnum nameplate has somewhat more credit, but its American importer sells it with a substantial premium.
I've seen it perform. It might be a bit more difficult to adjust, but at a third of the price I am willing to waste a bit more time on it.
However, for the OP, I still think this is not the right engine, because it is too light in weight.

I have heard of guys using the 2 needle ASP .52 carb to replace the air bleeds on OS.48s. Been thinking of trying that myself.

The S52A I got, I ordered it with a remote needle. For me, the price was great, and the remote needle was what the clinched the deal. I'm not that keen putting my fat fingers so close to a screaming prop I can't see!
my application (airboat) is a lot more forgiving when it comes to power. My boat will not drop out of the sky if the engine is under powered
With 2 kids under 5, on a single income, my hobby budget is a lot lower than I'd like. So, The ASP hopefully give me the output I need, for the price I can afford. There will always be a market for the higher priced kit, just as there will always be a market for a budget option. I'm glad that the budget kit is improving in performance and quality.

I started the ASP A52SII for the first time this morning.... before the wife asked me to stop
The engine is quieter than my ENYA .60XF, and straight out of the box, she started with minimal effort - I backed out the needlevalve a half turn from factory to make her rich, primed her up, hooked up the glow, and gave her a very quick turn with the starter. I've got her so rich she will not transition without the glow driver attached, but I think this engine will be a breeze to run, and very forgiving on the needle settings.
Now, to look for Darzeelon's break in proceedure...

Altered1,
I just realized that all one needs to do to access this break-in thread, is to click the 'Rating' link at the top of the column.
This thread is right up there, near the top.

And one last time. THERE IS NO FACTORY SETTING!
One should consider the high speed needle valve position a random happenstance and do not depend upon a factory setting to save your engine's bacon, right out of the box. Close the needle valve completely, but softly, and then open to two and a half to three full turns. Better too rich than too lean. I haven't found the low speed needle worth messing with during the first couple of starting tries. They are usually close enough to run, if not run perfectly, on the low end.

My particular Magnum/ASP XL46A wants to load up in the midrange. Idle and top end are good just the midrange. Any ideas?

Drop back to 5% nitro and lean the high and low speed needles. The once rich midrange will miraculously lean out and dry up.

I have not had the rich mid range problem. Funny thing is I use the low cost, budget glow plugs from Hobby People. If after tweaking the needles and it does not go away, try am Enya #3 plug. That is my favorite plug of all time. They are not cheap. For me, I think they work way better then the O.S. plugs.

My apology to you. I was referring to jeffie8696's dilemma with the rich midrange.
Like you, I run cheaper plugs in my two-strokes most of the time, saving the higher cost plugs for where they are needed.
