I received my order of Methanol today and I want to mix it with oil in 32oz batches. If doing a 90% Methanol to 10% oil is it correct to have 28.8 fluid ounces of Methanol and 3.2 fluid ounces of oil? This will be used for the first run of my 735.
Thanks for any help given, Gary

Well guys, I got my 77 back from Horizon yesterday after the damage it suffered. (see my earlier posts on this thread). They did not charge for the repair or return shipping. I have to say their service is pretty good. I think I am going to put it in a Ziroli P-47 that I plan to start building so it will be a while before she is flying again.
Installing the new 99 in my Howard DG-15 that the 77 was a little under powered for so that will keep me busy for a while.

Maxam,
I wonder if the corrosion issues could be reduced in the 99 if I just use methanol and 7% oil with no nitro like I do with the 77? I had over a hundred hours on it when I opened it up and it was clean as new inside.

I'm not Maxam but nitro-methane IS an oxidizer but unspent methanol is just as deadly since it absorb ( attracts ) water into your engine.
You have to get the fuel completely out of the internal chambers of your engine and coat with a preservative no matter what blend of fuel you use if it has methanol in the mix.

That website I posted earlier with the Evo 99cc radial with exhaust collector ring for $925? I asked them to send me an actual camera shot photo of the engine to prove that they actually had the engine available? Guess what? I never heard from them again.

Oh yes......Shipping was $45 and currency exchange was $48. Now mind you....I now think this is all the price for thin air and blue sky.

Speedy... why you would even bother to inquire is beyond me. I looked at first of all your question on price, and secondly... I clicked the link and within all of 2 seconds I could tell is was pure bull****. Duhhh! Of course it's bull**** man lol ... you can't buy anything at significantly below the prices set by Horizon. Even buying from UMS directly is more expensive.

I'm not going to. My main reason for showing this website was to show others ( and myself ) that there are
those out there that have no remorse in trying to defraud you and then walk away with your money thinking
they have accomplished something great by screwing a hard working modeler.
No........I was not born yesterday but if we use caution and patience it is easy to expose fraud.
I always wanted a new Corvette too and finally got one......using 20 years of patience!!
I still want one of these engines.......my patience is hard at work once again!

Thanks Maxam!
The 7-77 is too small for my project ( a 98" Bob Dively "Super Stearman" ). With the 9-99 I'm sure I'll get thru it
and if I break it I can make it. I have been an aerospace master machinist for over 30 years and have full access to any type of
modern and manual machinery that you could possibly imagine plus some very exotic materials and metallurgy.
Bad ( good ) thing is I am getting ready to retire from all that in a couple years at 60 but I have a nice little machine shop here at home.
I have ran anything from Cox TD .010 to 1100 HP BB Chevy to stuff for the aerospace program that I am not at liberty to talk about. I love engines of all types.
All the engines I have ever ran and maintained run extremely well if you take care of them. I also take pride in taking a great engine
and making it better. These Evo radials are a great value and I'm sure require a great deal of expertise. You can't learn that unless
you own one as I am sure you know well.
OK........Who wants to sell me one for a bargain?

Maxam,
I don't live in the desert but for six months of the year I do live on my ranch in the eastern sierra mountains of California where the humidity is very low and my radials love it. But the other half of the year I live on the mendocino coast where I am careful in keeping all my engines maintained properly or they will show signs of corrosion almost over night.
The 77 is the engine I had over a hundred hours on (that is including 40 hours of bench running just watching and listening to that beautiful engine run) not the 99. I have got the 99 mounted on my Howard DGA-15 and will continue the break-in with it tied to it's work stand. I won't be able to fly it until spring next year at the ranch because our club field on the coast here is too small for a big fast airplane. That 99 almost pulled the bench stand over on the first run. That thing is a beast! It will make the Howard a rocket ship, gonna be exciting for sure.

Can someone recommend a synthetic oil to use for break-in of my 735? Can I use Redline 2 cycle synthetic oil? I use this on my 2 cycle gas engines but not sure about this engine. Thanks - Gary

Gary,
I have used the evolution oil that horizon recommends for the radials just to be safe for both my 77 and 99. I know there are other suitable oils out there but I can't advise on that. I you read this thread through, you will find everything you need to know about your engine, thanks to some great contributions from a good bunch of guys.
Have fun with it!

Thanks Tom. Believe it or not, I have read each and every post on this forum. You are right, there are some great contributions but I don't recall seeing anything about the oil to use in the fuel. I did read about the oil to use on the rockers and where the pushrods contact the lifters. I did a search on Horizon and only found the "Evolution 2-Cycle Oil, Synthetic, Quart". Is this the Evolution Oil you use? If not, could you provide a link? Thanks very much for your help.

GaryFL,
Yes that is it. I use the mix that the manual recommends for break-in and after break-in. I mix it with straight methanol for the 7% ratio and no nitro. Some guys mix straight methanol with various rc fuels to get the fuel-oil-nitro blend they want. For instance, I am breaking in the 99 with 50%methanol, 50% Cool Power (synthetic oil, 20%nitro) which gives me a blend of 9% oil and 10% nitro. But after break-in I will continue to use the methanol, 7% Evolution oil blend as the engine doesn't really need the nitro with an onboard glow. I also use the recommended Evo after run oil and 90 w gear oil for the rockers. Keep in mind that there many different preferred methods for these engines that all are good but these are the ones that I found on this thread and trial and error that work for me. That is part of the fun, I think and these engines require allot more fiddling with than the standard rc engines, so you have to like putting in the time with them. They are not plug-n-play!
Have fun,
Tom
