How does MVVS rate

Let me go out on a limb and kick open a crate o' monkeys....
I've been an OS fan for a lot of years. Their stuff was always a notch above many of their
competitors where fit and finish, ease of use, reliability, etc, et al was concerned.
The tide has changed somewhat however, and much of the OS product line seems to have merged
with, and become difficult to distinguish from the cheap, knock-off chinese throwaway's. The main difference
being at the checkout. (price)
MVVS is a fairly old company that is building superb quality motors. Easily able to outperform OS in any
comparison IMO. The workmanship, metallurgy, handling and performance are all A#1 first class, at a
price that isn't cheap, but commensurate with what you're getting. I'd place MVVS firmly in the Rossi, Webra
quality class.
It's really a matter of what you need. If you're new to the hobby...buy a cheap knock-off engine to learn the
ropes with. If you've been around awhile...buy the MVVS.

Yeah Dave...
They sure are. I don't have a problem with that though. Why pay for a muffler you aren't going
to use? I'd rather take my Zloty's (or whatever they use in CZ) and put it into the pipe.

Some of the MVVS's come with a "dustbin muffler" the silent ones are $27.27 and are well worth the price and are amazingly light, as to the engine quality, they take a back seat to no one. The silent mufflers are a beautiful gray, maybe powder coated. Dar Zeelon or Pe Reivers would know that for certain.

I've been looking at the MVVS .77, the one with the switchable around
cylinder....that's pretty cool.... I like a rear piper.

I like the Rossi's in the half inchers....

I've got an MVVS .61 with a full length pipe in a pattern plane.
THAT Beatch will swing a LOG of a prop (13-9), and idle like an electric.
Instantaneous transition.
The .77 is supposed to be a real killer in the same size case, and a tad lighter than
the already lightweight .61.
Great stuff man.
HOBBSY: Those nice, velvety finished pieces are sand blasted. I have an MVVS header with the
treatement, and one without. No functional difference, but for appearance points? The sand blasted
stuff is slick!!

Ok,I will try one,where can I get one at a nice price.Need one for a shrike and a small one for the wonder. I have had OS for 10+ yrs I do love them ,have never failed me just looking to explore and or move up.

Try Morris Hobbies.
Just Engines in the UK is another reputable source, but the exchange rate is so poor right
now that you're not going to save anything by going there.

I have to agree with all of the good things the others are saying about MVVS. Only thing I'd add is, don't use fuel with more than 5% nitro if it's a standard MVVs engine you buy. If I remember correctly they are 'timed' for 0% to 5% and need to be modified if you use more than this. I mention it because I understand that it can be difficult to get low nitro fuel in some places in the USA.

Runway is correct.
The MVVS just isn't gonna play well on anything over 5% nitro unless you start shimming
the head.
FAI and Low nitro fuels aren't terribly common in HS's, but most all of the leading fuel mfrs
offer the product, and your dealer will have no problem ordering a case (usually 4 gals) for you.
You'll be surprised that you can get a case of Omega FAI (for example) for under $40.00. That's
a good bit of flying!

Powermaster. They have instant throttle response and a lot of power
especially at lower rpm's. Pulls hard in verticals. Clarence Lee did a review
in RCM and praised the 77, especially it's low rpm pulling power. He used 10%
fuel for the tests. Morris Hobbies in The Woodlands right outside Houston is the
USA distributor.

The postman has just dropped a new MVVS 91 into my sweaty palms - girlfriend bought it for my b-day. I've been slobbering and drooling over it all day: the finish and build quality is superb. I've had a few OS motors of various sizes over the years and they are excellent, but the engineering of the MVVS looks way ahead. Have lined up a Protech Christen Eagle for it and can't wait to get it fired up.
I've been told that I'm "a bit sad" wetting myself over a nodel engine, but hey: sometimes people don'y appreciate the finer things in life.
Just Engines recommend no nitro for this motor - straight fuel is readily available in the UK but if you can't buy it, get the ingredients. Without the nitro it's not rocket science.

I bought one cause they are cheap and due to the great stories i hear here about them. (.25 Combat with Tuned Muffler)

Whatever Racecity has already said- Ditto. I have a .61 and a .77 and both are absolute powerhouses especially the .77 . Mine run great on FAI fuel but I seem to get a little better idle with 5%. MVVS makes a variety of mufflers and pipes (both tuned and muffled) to fit your application. The earlier .77's had a needle valve that was a little tricky to get set right, but the new ones have a different tapered needle that is not so sensitive. I have nothing but good things to say about my MVVS's.

I took the new MVVS 91 out of its box and placed it by the TV so I could look at it whenever I felt the urge. That didn't last long, however - I got a slap and was told to get it out of the living room[&o]. Like I say: some people - no appreciation...
On a different vein, I have a couple of ASPs: a 46 and a 52. I can remember many years ago that one would shudder at the thought of bolting a Chinese engine in one's model. These engines might not have the visual appeal of the MVVS, but I can't fault their performance. The 46 is fitted to a Cougar funfly and the 52 to a Super Sportster and both are more than adequate - I think the ASP 46 is more powerful than the OS 46FX and throttles equally as well. I have run both in the same model and prefer the ASP (now it's run in). At almost exactly half the price of the OS they are great value.
Best give Messrs Landell and Bardot a plug at Just Engines: they have supplied all my recent engines and spares, you get the stuff within two or three days and they still have time to take the piss

Have the 40 and 61 from JE (rats should have waited the 40 now a 45) they were both broken in

Dan, last I checked the USD/GBP exchange rate was over $1.80US per GBP.
(as of this afternoon, 2/15....it stands at $1.89USD = 1 GBP)
That's horrible, and it makes it tough to get a deal. When the exchange favors the dollar
then JE looks mighty tempting.
