Default Webra 1.20? How is it?

I want to put a Webra 1.20 in my 7 pound edge 540. How does this engine preform? is it a good motor?

It's great. It'll pull a 7lb Edge inside out.

Default Webra 1.2

I've got a webra 1.2 on a 72" sport plane I designed. See picture attached. I've run this plane for two years now, this is the second Webra to grace its front end. I wore the first one out after about 150 flights. Its a Dykes ring engine so the first thing to go is the compression.
I am using an OS Carb and backplate pump on mine, it runs and carburets flawlessly. I have never had any hassles from it, going on now 100+ flights from the second engine. I can restore the first engine with a ring change and have a spare.
This plane was built around this engine with full length tuned pipe (The Webra responds VERY well to the pipe). It weighs 9.5 Lbs.
Turns a 16/10 mejlik at 9200. The best vertical performance of any plane I have , including 100CC IMAC gassers.

Do consider the THUNDER TIGER 1.20. I purchased my first one based on an R/C REPORT saying that it was superior to the WEBRA 1.20. They were right ! I now have two THUNDER TIGER 1.20's performing flawlessly.

Extremely user friendly, no fussy Dykes ring, you don't have to purchase an OS Carb to make it run, and it has a higher output !

For what it's worth.

Actually, I used the OS carb because I wanted to use a pump, as I mentioned I designed this A/C and wanted to mount the fuel tank on the CG.
The stock carb works great in non-pumped apps, I ran one for a couple of years in a goldberg Sukhoi. This same engine was the first engine on my new plane.

Default Webra 120

Boy I do not want to bad mouth TT as I have several of their motors, but the Webra is something else when it comes to power. It is a bit on/off in nature with the throttle transition but when on, it will rip my goldberg extra with 16 X 8 prop straight up out of sight before you realize it. Runs great on low nitro fuel. Mine likes 5% much better than 15 %.

Default webra 120

I pulled a 14 pound midwest AT 6 with a Webra 120, and was impressed except some carbueration oddities. I had a pump added and carb modified by UAV and performance was superb.

If you want a Webra 120 on steriods, get the UAV 120 PR. Twin plug, and my experiece would justify their claims of greater performance.

I don't know why a dykes ring would wear sooner. Its subject to less wear. You can touch the crankcase of a webra 120 running at full throttle and it is cool to the touch.

Just don't reach for the case from in front of the engine. Things will warm up in a hurry.

I'm running a Webra 120 on my DP Ultimate. At 10.5 lbs the 120 will pull it vertical quick and forever! I don't evenknow why I cut out the cowl for the adjustment needles. Fuel and fly!

Thanks! It's my favorite plane.Got the sticker at an auto parts store called "Auto Zone" . I've seen them at a number of the national auto parts stores.

Default Webra 1.20? How is it?

I have a Webra 1.20 on a Goldberg Sukhoi that flew all last season. The engine is completely stock. I use A.P.C. or Zinger 16X8 props and the performance is outstanding. The plane weighs 10.75 lbs. The vertical in not unlimited but it is close. I always add enough castor to my fuel to get the total oil content up to 20% on most of my engines and they just seem to get better year after year. I am also a firm believer in after run oil. I usually run 10% nitro but the engine seems to like 5% just about as well.

Default Webra vs TT

I've had both the Webra 120 and the Thunder Tiger 120, The earlier post that mentioned the TT being 10oz heavier must have been a typo unless u are including the muffler weight. The Webra does not come with a muffler, the Thunder tiger does.

I found the Webra to be very easy to start , very smooth transition, and great idle. I ran both the webra and Thunder tiger engines on Bisson Pitts mufflers.

The Thunder tiger had equally good running characteristics but, was much more powerful than the Webra. I'm talking about 1000rpm's on an APC 16x8. This is a huge power difference!

The Webra is a great engine but ,for a 2 stroke 120 it is short on power.

Yes, It will give unlimited vertical in a 10lbs airframe but, not at 12lbs. I think the fellow that asked about it in the h9 edge would be disappointed with the performance.

Default Webra 1.20? How is it?

I have two Webras and one ThunderTiger (all 120 size). I like them all, but I am about to buy another T.T. 120. I believe it does have more power than the Webra and RC Report tested both engines several years ago, with the TT coming out ahead.

By the way, the weight, without muffler, is nearly identical, maybe 1 oz. difference at most.

The weight of the Thundertiger is 994 grams (35.5 oz). http://www.acehobby.com/acehobby/pro...ane/proseries/

The weight of the Webra is 700 g (25 oz.). http://www.adis.at/webra/fra_mot.htm

The Webra does not come with muffler. Thundertiger's web site does not state whether this weight is with muffler or without but I am guessing it is total with muffler. That muffler must be a chunk of metal.

Default tt weight

Yes, that has to be the weight WITH the muffler, and yes , it is one huge chunk of muffler!

The engines themselves are within 1 oz of each other.

BTW the mounting pattern is the same for each as well, although the TT is a just a bit longer ( meaning the front hub is about 1/8" further out) otherwise they are completely interchangable

Luv2flyrc,
I agree completly, the 145 aero-x or something in that power range. The mds 1.48 is also an option, around $170.00 without the muffler, the new carb and four stroke plug and a regulator is supposed to be the deal. Of course I have heard the os 160 would be an awsome choice for that 3-D kinda thing. Shortman stated that he was looking for something less exensive, seem's like unless you get something used your looking around $300.00 and up for a motor and a pipe anyway you look at it if you want unlimited vertical and a 3-D power curve for that weight class.
