Not trying to pick at scabs or anything, just a serious question, but do you still have your 125 Pete?
ps i agree okc
Hi barry,no.I used to joke about burying it in the back yard but i never owned one,i ran several in for friends tho and after an hour they were struggling on a 16x6 which i thought was pretty poor as my 115 did as well on a 15x8 mas.I don't hate 125's maybe it's more to provoke discussion ..plus around that time a friend had a large chipmunk with a clapped out old OS120 in it.He pulled that out and flew it with a 125 that had an hour on it,i was quietly fuming about how much that saito 125 struggled where the clapped out old os 120 flew it more easily.I did fly a friends hanger9 80" taylorcraft identical to mine and his had a well run 125 which flew it nicely.
Like you say it's good having instant saito grunt when you need it badly.I took a whole lot of 14x6 props down one day and ended up liking apc's they are good for low and slow flying close to the ground, specially if you push things too far and back yourself into a corner, and quickly need some flying speed. It may sound funny (and certainly looks it) but my 46 size deccy and fa82 will hover over the strip with a 14x5..sometimes you hear a sarcastic sounding 'oh my,how scale'
ps here's a pic of my 72" percival mew gull with the saito 220 fitted.
pps i'd like to see a pic of that epsilon with the 82 in it one day friend.

Flathead engines in most cases, (Ford & Chrysler) are very torquey, long lasting and very reliable but they became over head valve engines for a reason. They have limited breathing capability due the head being right above the valves shrouding/limiting the the intake and exhaust. Compression was limited because if you moved the combustion chamber roof downward to increase compression you further reduced the ability to breath. Picture #2 is most likely how a single flathead would be built.

Saito Gent's, for some reason I have a weakness for Saito .65's, I just bought an early .65 that has the angled spray bar. It is un-run, no muffler or box, but that's fine with me. It's coming from Nebraska so it'll be a few days, I'll be waiting.

Hey i'd like saito to take a leaf out of the kolm engine book and build a big inline 135 or 200cc triple.Look up the galloping ghost (modified p51) on the kolm engine site.If saito did that i'd never come out of the shed,if your married, don't even think of it
ps i agree okc

This 1964 Jeep milk truck had over head valves for the intake and the exhaust valves were in the block, it was called the F head. 52 hp.
The flat head Fords had max torque at a low 1,900 to 2,100 rpm. The 239 inch Fords had a 3.75" stroke and the 255 Mercury version had a 4" stroke.

A friend in western Pa. has a Lincoln 306 cu in V-12, you can set a glass of water on the air cleaner while it is idling and the water doesn't jiggle. The fan is the only thing you can hear and that just barely. The engine is from a Fire Company tank truck.

Saito FA-65 (2)
The old/new Saito .65 is supposed to arrive tomorrow, that's fast service. It has been said that the hump in the middle of the piston is for higher compression. Clarence Lee says it is to clear the upper rod end.

Any chance of any of you Saito owners has a spare 91 cylinder? I bought this biplane from the perry swap meet and this 91 has a badly stripped out glow plug threads and this amount of damage I highly doubt can be fixed with a heli coil. A new cylinder from Horizon is $82 but im hoping that a parts engine with a good cylinder exists out there before I push the buy now button from Horizon.

I would first send it to Clarence Lee and see what he says, as I remember his normal charge is only $25,,
and don't for get you should replace the Ring even if you use the old cylinder

Dave, Bill Robison was putting his Breather on the Top of the Cam Box, well I was looking at the Saito 100Ti and 200Ti, I noticed both engines have there Breathers on the side of the Cam Box, that would point the Breather straight up when mounting the engine on it's side,
interesting this is

Interestingly the Saito 2.20 had a raised boss on the cam box for a vent but the vent was on the back plate. The 2.20 came with Mickey Mouse pump system but I just used an Iron Bay regulator. I got to be Guinney pig because John at Iron Bay wasn't sure the regulator would flow enough fuel for a 2.20. It flowed plenty and you enrichen it down about 200 rpm at full honk. Some guys got frustrated because you couldn't enrichen it down more but no need for that since it would never go lean as the fuel level decreased. You just have to remember that it's a demand regulator and won't flow much more than the demand.

I had the 2.20 with the IronBay on it for a while then Adrian at C&H bought it to measure and test an Ignition for it. I had sold the plane I bought it for, it was Hangar ( Cessna 182 giant.
The .65 came today, it has an A stamped on the right lug, it is either the first or second iteration. It turns over silky smooth. No glow plug yet. It has a metered carb, the barrel does not move in and out, and an air bleed trim. 12.7 to 1 one compression, a beauty.
