Well, at the very least you guys should be ribbing me about buying a YS and expecting anything but trouble from it.

I have one myself, first one took a little work but runs nicely, or at least it did on the stand. Haven't flown it yet.

Lonnie, looks like they are going to let you find-out for yourself.

I can't wait to see what Pete has to say. I hope he doesn't disappoint me LOL

Hey Lonnie, I just thought of this, why don't you take that blower off that YS and try 2 things, no, not what you'r thinking>

1) run the YS without the blower and see if it's as powerful as a Saito of the same size.

2) put that blower on a Saito, then you may have some thing

More punishment (fun) for me, my newly acquired low time FG21 runs like $#@! beween 5k and 7K. Idles fine and peak is fine although the hsn is a little quirky. Doesn't seem to meter fuel evenly.

Checked the tank and lines, nope. Swapped the ignition, nope. Swapped the plug, nope. Swapped the battery, nope. It's sound mechanically. Hmmmm, carb? Checked it and all passages clear, diaphrams aren't torn. Hmmmm, more fun.

My other one runs perfect so I guess a carb swap is next.

No carb swap necessary, runs perfect now. Had debris plugging the end of the spraybar. Why would that only really affect the engine between 5K and 7K? Don't ask me, I'm not a flipp'n fluid dymanics engineer.

Bearings for the 120 Fathead should be here tomorrow or Monday. Now that's an engine I really look foward to running!

The mysterious YS blower/rotary valve, part number 27. Part number 27 is missing from most parts lists.

Setting the preload (friction) between the rotory valve (27) and back plate (26) during assembly is very critical therefore YS sells them as a "Back Plate Assembly".

Yep, I saw the importance of the setting here, it makes sense now.

In that photo the author is showing the importance of ensuring that the rotary valve is indexed to the crankshaft properly, that's important as well.

Dave Shadel at YS got kind of peeved at me for disassembling my 91ac back plate assembly and explained how to reset the friction (drag) between the rotary valve and backplate while tightening the set screws that retain the brass pin. It must be done with the parts cleaned and dry and only a tiny amount of friction (drag) should be felt when rotating the rotary valve by hand.
Too much drag will load down the engine, too little drag will allow for leakage out of the inlet side of the carb during the two supercharging strokes which will cause loss of boost pressure.

Saito, saito SAITO!

In some situations, new won't do.

I am currently offering my very last. assembled engine. A Saito Fathead 120.
The remaining Saito, saito, saito engines that do go will be torn down and sold as parts kits, as- is.

YS of course , hanging on to those gems.

Tee her hee!
