Welcome to Club SAITO !
The right tailwheel spring pooped off when I sat it down off the starting stand.
And Viola
Small caliber bullet dodged.
Or "Grazed" anyway. Lol
Flew it again just now. Try to post a vid on the OS forum.
It runs as good as my Saito R5.
Without dedicated glo also.
AH, for some reason I was thinking one of the BIG gas ones. It's the baby bro to my 120R3. I am in the process of mounting it to the Corsair today. I removed all the T-nuts and redrilled the firewall. Looking at the plans there is 2* right thrust, which 2 washers on the left mount gets dead on, but now the shaft is off center. Comparing to the plans, yep, the shaft is off center. Didn't catch that or I would have adjusted accordingly.

I had to anticipate that when mounting the Saito 30 on the Robin Hood 25. The engine mounts are mounted .125" to the left so the crank center is centered at the spinner.
I have the right side covered, it's looking OK so far.
I didn't get too creative.

Dave,
Asking again, did you get the box? The Useless Post Office claims it was delivered yesterday at 2:05 PM. I am concerned a bit as there was some good stuff in there.

Yes I got it yesterday, commented above, the box had burst open somewhere and the PO repaired it with about 50 yards of Holiday box tape and a bunch of cloth shop towels. Everything survived, many thanks. The little tach works great. Wow, lottsa good stuff. I owe you.
Do you have a any extra of the Coverite Fabric in Cub yellow, the world seems to be out of it.

After giving the plans a once over, again, I decided to make a new firewall to attach to the existing one, and get everything lined up properly. I had to adjust the offset to this engine because the plans offset has the engine too far left. I should know shortly if I got it right, though I may have to find different plywood, the stuff I am using is too soft. The good news is I just have to fire off the laser to make a second one.

Gary, thanks for the nice pieces of steel, I haven't cut any steel parts on the lathe yet. I gotta figure out something new to make. The props are all in sizes I can use. I can always use bearings too. Thanks a million. As I go through it, it's a gift that keeps on giving.
How critical is tank level for the Radial? Trying to line everything up in the nose before I can put the throttle cable in. Want to make sure there is enough slack, and also have 2 batteries to put in the nose too.
boy that explained a lot

Those steel pieced are true metri hex bar. Premium, free machining for making exhaust parts. I hope the Post office didnt loose anhything. That box was well packed.
Never using the Post Office again. They have lost several packages coming this way as well as going out.
Dave i like that colour yellow you chose.

Thanks Gary, it was well packed, it appears to be all there, there was no room in it, packed to the gills as they say. I think I have a big block front muffler housing for the tail piece.
Thanks too Pete, I found another roll of the Cub Yellow Coverite Fabric. All the for sale site have offers for the stuff but all has been sold. There many "wanted" ads too.
The new Iron works really well, it's digital temp is right on, when preheating it over shoots 275 degrees and goes to 288 then slowly comes back down to 275 and stays there. I use it for the 275 shrinking and the new Hangar for the 225 initial tacking.

Well, so far the only way to get the tank in is on top of the tank floor, but made it so I can easily remove it. I would need a smaller tank in order to drop it mid line to the carb which is at the centerline of the fuse. I have had high tanks on other 4 strokes and they ran fine, but since there are two cylinder well below the tank, makes me wonder if it is more critical than not. Plans call for a 12 ounce, I have a 14 ounce, but according to the plans the size is dead on. I hope it works well since the tank wedges the batteries perfectly in the nose, leaving plenty of room underneath for the glow board and retract controller. Now I have to dig around and find my receivers, I need a 7 channel one, two rudder channels so I can adjust the tail wheel servo throws and not affect the rudder throws. Not sure if I want to use the JR or the Futaba radio yet either.
Todd, I've run glow tanks a little high and a little low with no problems eg +/- 3/8". For aerobatic aircraft I try to get it centered even if I have to mod the aircraft. Everything changes when flying inverted so a tank that's mounted high is more risky than one that's mounted low.
Following a phone call from my van insurance company to the effect that they would like me to install a dashcam at my own expense i sent them this pic saying i was happy with the old model which had worked well since my birthdate. They were not impressed and offered a discount on the yearly premium i pay those shysters, so i won't feel sorry they are cooped up in their high rise city building while i do some touring around australia in the van starting end of january. Certainly won't be sending them any scenery footage.
Dave happy to hear you are pleased with your new covering iron, i only use mine to tighten slack covering me and coverings irons get on like i do with superglue.

Thanks Pete, no matter how good of an iron you have the covering material is still contrary at times. The Robin Hood 25 fuse is covered and the windshield installed. The side windows are next and then the wing. Sig is sending some trim tape for a little deco, nothing fancy. All controls hooked up and the Saito 30 plumbed. With the little 30's carb no being flippable the HS needle is going to be underneath. I may change the engine to upright.
Lonnie, I have a couple of 9 x 7 Xoars coming to try on the 30. I'll be back.
