Lol
finely got in the shop. Friend shipped me an FG 11 with a broken off high speed Metal valve didn’t have rights spray bar so I improvised and put in a 91 spray bar in it runs OK on gas but the high-speed needle is touchy however switch to glow which is what the spray bar was meant for holy Cow runs great. Now I know the pros and cons of running glow Through a gas carburetor but just an FYI if you’re desperate to fly your plane and you can’t find a spray bar, a 91 spray bar will work and switch to glow until you get new spray bar

The Go-Kart synthetic oil (Thor Oil) ran great in my FA-72. I've used about a half gallon of fuel so far and it works great. I was flying it in an OS 40 Surpass today.

"Too much" ?? LOL
I dont burn this stuff alone! The flilying season here is ramping up. There are quite a few fellow club members mixing their own. I help by finding sources.

I used to run Coleman stove fuel in my gassers back in the day. Doesn't stink as bad as gaspoline. Also a LOT less carbon.

My dad used to call coleman fuel White gas. He thought it was a higher octane with no lead or other additives.
We also had military lanterns that would burn either.
The pump gasoline burned in them was less efficient and stunk. And contained lead lol. Maybe that has something to do my piss poor memory.

Only downside of Coleman fuel is it is only 70 octane.

My first 4 cycle was the OS FS 61 serial No. 5. I sold to a collector in 2004 when I returned to the hobby.

The good part is most of these small bore engines do not require high octane. Every engine I ran on Coleman fuel ran very well.

Cap, here are my numbers for my FG 11/66, turning a Graupner 13 x 7. The fuel is 90 octane ethanol free, (Farmer Gas) and 20% of the oil pictured.

Full Blatt.

No smoke.
.

Idle

Years ago I worked with a machinist who had moved back from San Diego. He had worked in a shipyard on a lathe with a cab on the cutting tool the operator rode in. He was machining propeller shafts for big ships. I wish he had a video I could have watched!

I misstated the lube amount, it is 20 to 1. Not 20%. Sorry.

i ran the FG11 with a FG14 carb last night. That’s the best that engine has run.
I will have to tack it out tonight

Even though the timing is set at 40° btdc, it is very smooth with no sign of kicking back and no rattle.

https://www.horizonhobby.com/on/dema...G11-Manual.pdf

On Page 3 here it shows the neutral timing setting, that position on my FG 11 is 40 BTDC.

Likewise with my FG14 and three FG21's, somewhere between 39°-40° btdc static. They all run fine at that nuetral setting. Apparently the RCxel/Saito cdi retards the timing from there to somewhere between 28°-30° while running at wot. Still seems weird to me but it does work.

I run my FG 11 with a CHIgnition 7.4 volt system and a 7.4 volt LIPO, it runs the same as with the wimpy spark RCXel.

I run mine off the RX Life pack. I have a dual output 2500 mah for it. Gets well over an hour flight time with plenty of reserve.

Hello RoKit, Not sure of a designated one for the FA170R3, but many that frequent this one have R3's (and more LOL) with lots of expertise. Welcome aboard ! I have a FA170R3,(bought used) but it has a CH Ignition conversion to include a Saito gas carb.
Here is a link to it running - Mike I have done the engine, here is a link of the engine running.
You will have to tune it bit more at your end.
You may not be able to go full throttle may go only 3/4 , use the trim to rich top rpm and leave it like that.

Regarding the throttle only going to 3/4, interesting video.
