When I mix fuel I do it in metric. Four liters will fit in a gallon jug. Doing it in metric you do not have to deal with fractions of an ounce. Not that the math dealing with ounces is that hard to work with, it just seems more easy to deal will milliliters as whole numbers.

Quick shot of the Mystery Ship I mentioned for the radial conversion Lonnie. With a Saito in the foreground ta boot. I have put a gallon of gaspolene thru it Gary. Dave's handiwork sure looks great on low passes. But the chainsaw motor has to go....

New toy to play with. Having overhauled a couple of 90T flat twins I've come to appreciate their lumpy idle and torquey nature so I picked up this extremely low run time engine. It'll be first to run on my new engine test stand. I have no planes suitable for this engine so if anyone is interested in it send me a PM.

A woodworker's engine test stand (prototype)
Not having any metal working tools offers some challenges to building a strong engine test stand, namely a functional friction stop mechanical throttle lever.
This one has a strong internal spring mechanism to provide the friction necessary to overcome the throttle return springs found on gasser carbs. The nylon idle adjust screw has a friction spring as well. The throttle geometry is set up for progressive travel from idle to full throttle. The throttle assembly can be moved from left to right on the shelf and is reversible.
The shelf for the fuel tank, throttle and accesories is moveable for proper fuel tank height when running glow engines. Everything moves at once and all accesories are held with rubber bands, either on top of or beneath the shelf.
Mounted to the Black & Decker Workmate gives a sturdy foundation and a concrete block can be placed on the bottom shelf for ballast when running big gassers.
Total fabrication time was 4 hours. Cost was zero, just used things I had laying about the place.
Disclaimer: The battery strapped to the top of the fuel tank is just for fun. Please don't do that!

The mystery plane appears to be a Gilmore "Red Lion". The 30's race plane was a Williams-Wedell design.

HmmmThe mystery ship on the stand is a Dave Gunner scale reproduction of one of the two travel aire race planes built for racing. I believe anyway. To my understanding , they were named that as they were kept secret during development and initial flight testing. Then numbered and entered into racing events.

Jim was very well known, he took a load of published photos. There was a major article on him in the Metro Times recently, featured his pics. Also, a book published . Next time we get together I will show you.

So I guess they more likely copied the Sportster (?)'
