The detachable endcaps provide lots of mod opportunities. Getting the tapers gone and, even getting a hose retention ring is high on the list.

Even down to making a big bore, extended tail pipe. Often a change in exhaust tone is a part of the end goal.

The magnesium YS ray gun bottle muffler is easily re-tapped and fitted to Saito engines. While at it hou can better than double the cannister volume by making a full diameter tail extension.

The 150 cylinder finally got here in only nine days. I have improved it's looks somewhat, more to do, mostly around the exhaust port.

A dunk in 100% green antifreezea in a crock pot set to 165°-170° for 48 hours will do the trick.. No hotter or you run the risk of graying the parts.

Of course we know that, the post is for the benefit of future readers.

I recall sending you a USA Guvrmint Priority mail package about ayear and a half ago. That one took nearly five weeks to get there. Pretty sure it was the box that had those hex bars in it.

A few months ago, sent a package, also by way of US "Priority" mail. Went about fifty miles to Port Huron MI. Tool only 32 days to make it there.

BTW Dave, Did I miss something or did you really report getting identical readings on the Xoar prop with both the CL pipe and thd Saito cast muffler?

I didnt see the Xoar mentioned in the CL pipe run.

It just squeezed in there between the 62 CL muffler numbers and an added on comment.. And yes it was the bars package that took a long time.
With stock cast muffler and Xoar,==10,290, it required 4 clicks leaner to reach the peak with the cast muffler. The peak was very vague with the CL muffler.

Now, for some of you more eksperter folks than me, is this possibly one of the Saito cylinder where the sleeve slipped.

The dark shadow at the combustion chamber roof is an approximately .125" gap. This might call for one of those, awe s---, farmer words.

Dave, sure hope that cylinder works out for you.
No, it does not look like a slipped sleeve. Doesn't look thick enough and you would-should see similar displacement at bottom. Looks rather shallow , too thin to be a sleeve, and well above ring travel. At least in the pic May look different in person.

I looked hard for a parts engine at the last swap two weeks ago. Pete/Pedro is pretty good at turning up stuff like that too.

Dave, as far as I know the 150 is an AAC design. No sleeve, just a chrome plated aluminum cylinder.

I've only read reports of slipped sleeves on the early 120 fathead, those with A or B stamped on the mounting lug. Those stamped C or later had threaded in sleeves instead of pressed in sleeves. Clarence Lee claims only 100 of those pressed in sleeve versions were shipped before Saito addressed the issue.

Any crock pot will do? I use a candy thermometer to test temp. I got lucky on my last crock, it was very close to 170° on the warm setting. The ceramic bowl cracked last week, no idea why, it never gets moved. I'm temp testing a new one now.

That void is very likely an intentional, cast in grinding relief.
Often done with blind bores.
The FA-150 is an AAC engine, no sleeve.
The early FA-65 and FA-130 etc also had sleeve displacement problems iirc.

I gave it a test and I agree, it is not a slipped sleeve. I put it in my vice and applied gentle pressure, then heated it until I couldn't handle it. Then applied more pressure and it would not budge. The bottom of the cylinder rests exactly on the lip in the crankcase. Thanks all for the analysis.

Didn't take long. Thumb was locked solid for a month. She set it free in abot 5 minutes!

What was wrong that it locked up? I got a little hitch in my right thumb that locks it up but it usually frees up in a minute or so.

Gary, don't worry about my Ways LOL. that lathe will outlive me for sure. gear oil may not be as thick as way oil, but I say, if it's good for the high pressure of ring and pinion love making. it's good enough for my ways.

yes way oil is expensive. $16 a quart (or more) + $15 for shipping. or + $20 for the drive to get it.

I'm happy you got your thumb fixed! now people will stop asking you if you need a ride
