So I played around with the engine today, and after taking your advice, the engine is running much better. I backed out the LSN to about flush as the first responder mentioned, then adjusted the HSN, and got to around 9000, backed that out to about 8500 to be safe, the engine is not fully broken in yet, 4 8oz tanks run through following Saito's instructions. The rest of the break in will occur in the the air, and I would like to avoid dead sticks where possible.
After getting the HSN at peak, I went back to the low end, and was able to get a good idle around 2800 RPM, I am hoping this will come down after more break in.
I then had to change the linkage for the proper idle position, and setup the throttle cut on my radio. I am looking forward to doing my maiden flight tomorrow at our field.

That servo is a dandy, Dave. All that's left now is to find an engine that will spool up that fast with any kind of usable prop.

What happens when you attempt to idle below 2800?

If it just suddenly quits then richen the LSN a touch. If it slowly drops in rpm and quits then lean the LSN. The objective with gassers is to adjust the LSN mixture for the lowest reliable idle with the smallest throttle opening possible. Once broken in and needles properly adjusted your FG will be able to idle indefinitely.

Additionally, gassers will run VERY very rich without quitting but will quit in an instant if allowed to run too lean.

The methanol engines are very brisk at transition. Higher specific output and broader mixture tolerance range contribute to that quality. Very pleased with that part.
As long as the engine isn't waiting for the throttle I know the lag is very small. I avoid intentionally adding to response time.

Easy enough to check if response time is compromised. I rev the engine while watching the throttle arm and observe which happens first, engine reaching peak rpm or servo reaching full travel. So far I haven't needed a servo faster than .25 sec/60°. Not even on glow engines.

I have an exposed rocker 30 with a very slight twist in the con rod. Should I use heat while straightening it, or not? If yes, how much heat?

As have I, on all those topics etc etc, but only to get trampled on almost every time I make a suggestion or offer a tip. Sadly, even when the suggestions are personal preference and appropriate, attempts are consistently made to discredit them. Not all of us behave that way, thank goodness.

This little engine is really loud, shown here is a Mac's Tuned, Quiet pipe that I use on Saito from 125 down. I used a suggestion made by Lonnie, I flipped the carb over because the needles were impossible to reach on the PSP in the stock position, that in turn called for flipping the throttle lever. Whew. I have a cardiology appointment this AM and Geri is sick so I take her to a Dr. this PM. The 90 degree pipe is a Mac's tuned pipe header for a Webra 91, I hacked the phlange off of it and made it round at the engine end. I don't think the recommended 1.5 turns out from closed is a good setting for the needles, it will only run about 5 seconds then quits.

I am building another FA 30-s(H) from spare parts, I back ordered a crankshaft from MacGregor's for $46.39 USD, at Horizon it is $89.80, the shipping is almost the same at each. Something is really out of kelter.

It appears to have the drive pin for a crank mounted timing pinion.
