oh my gosh, ive had a persistant lung problems for the last 3 years, i evan quit smoking because i couldnt figure why i felt sick and my lungs hurt badly all the time. man i feel stupid.[:@]

I am running a 15X8 APC and just switched it to a 16X8 Pro Zinger.

You are right about the air bleed screws, they are nearly closed, which wouldmean the low end would be REAL rich too. The top end is rich also, but both cylinders are firing fine.

I have to say the first thing I noticed on this puppy, is that it will always start on the first flick of the prop. I have never had another engine that would do that.

If you really want to protect yourself from cyanoacrylate, you need a full-facepiece respirator, because it is an eye irritant as well. I can't find any reference to the North part number you listed for your cartridges, but you need to be certain they are for organic vapor. Here is a link to the current list of North respirator cartridges. The cartridges in your picture look like particulate filters to me, but I can't be certain without knowing what they were designed for.

In addition, you need to be sure that your lungs are healthy enough to USE a respirator. In industrial environments, respirator users must be retested annually, because if a person has a respirator covering their face, and their lungs aren't healthy enough, it can result in a severe lack of oxygen. In some cases, persons with lung conditions have been known to DIE before they could get their respirator off their face in time!

The cartridges also have to be changed out at a frequency that is often enough to prevent saturation. Since the concentration you are being exposed to is unknown, it makes it difficult to know when you have to change them. I'd just change them more often than I thought I needed to.

You might be better off if you just plan ahead to ensure good ventilation of your work area. Work with a small fan at your back, to help push the CA fumes away from your face. If possible, use the CA outdoors, since you are unusually sensitive to it.

BTW, I am not a doctor! However, I am the Safety Director for a medium sized manufacturing plant, and I am trained in respirator selection and use. I would never recommend respirator use, except as a LAST RESORT!

And, naturally, if you have already had a physician recommend you use a respirator, you should do what your doctor says! Just don't use a respirator without knowing all the potential risks and how to maintain your respirator.

Gentlemen.

I have a Saito 65 that I was going to use in an Eagle about four years ago, but I never had a chance to start the engine and fly the airplane. Since then I have started flying again. However I have lost the information that came with the engine. I am not certain how to break in this four strode engine. Can anyone help me with the proper break in proceedure?

Hahaha just got back from flying was only my second flight ever today. Was excellent conditions as there was little wind only gusting occasionaly. So I was cut solo which was daunting but at the same time awesome fun. I put it down to an excellent instructor and spending a 4-5hrs daily for the past few months in G3.5. Cant wait to get up some more stick time / experience.

i'm looking at several used 100's and 180's. does it matter if it has had 7 gals of 30% heli fuel. hard on bearings but not on ring/cylinder, right? checked prices of cylinder, $100 or more. do they last many gals of fuel? figured that the ring would be well broken in, saving me alot of effort. bearings aren't expensive. i ordered ceramics and ring/sleeve for a current rebuilt of an os 40 fs (figured it was good practice of a rebuild, following harry higley's book).

The 30% heli doesn't seem to hurt them.

Cylinders last a long time if you don't break out the exhaust pipe area or let bearing gage material get up in the cylinder when the rear bearing begins to fail.

The only cylinder I've had to replace was one that was augered into concrete by someone turning a transmitter on. I broke the rocker arm stand from the head.

One old engine needed a piston and the others just needed rings.

More often than not the damage is from using pliers or lost parts. Maybe drilling out the motor mount lugs etc.

thanks for advice. i'm ready to buy a couple motors. looking to get a dave patrick edge 540 or extra 330 79" wing span (can't decide yet, i like the covering and the ailerons to the root on the 330 and the longer moment and smoother flying characteristics of the edge). 12.5-13 lbs w/saito 180. either a 16x8 or 17x6 prop. want a good smooth aerobat (for clean basic manuvers) with a low wing loading, unlimited verticle and if possible do some hovering. sound like a good combination?
any recommendation on engine mount? opinions vary on plastic, metal and rubber mounts. i like to use use great planes mounts on os 91 fs and os 120 w/pump (.60/1.20 size), smooth running engines seem to work well on these mounts. but the saito 180 is similar weight to os 120 w/pump. dave patrick site shows two plastic beam mounts. looking forward to a better p/w ratio!
