HI Ronnie, I just bought the 180 with a simmilar problem, the high needle got broke in a crash. I was able to buy a carb rebuild/upgrade kit for $11 on ebay to fix mine. The kit is cheaper than buying items seperate and has the brass spyaybar, high speed needle, orings, but no spring, picture, or instructions. I just posted a couple of post back about the spring behind the carb barrel but haven't gotten a response from the Gurus.

That is a very early one isn't it.

It even has an air bleed carb

Looks like a new present day carb for a 65 will bolt right on.

Thanks for the posts,
w8ye, I looked at the link in your post. The carb looks very similar. Just a question, that carb is intended for a 50. Won't the 65 lack performance with a 50 carb?

H FA-65GK

Ronnie, the H Designation is also for the .65, I copied the above from Saitos letter chart. The .65 is supposed to be a great engine, I've never owned but have an .80

The 65 always had the same carb as the Saito 50, 56, & 62

hi club saito members.

i read somewhere that using 30% nitro (18% lubricant) will improve saito engine idling.

i tried and it seems to be true. i am not exactly sure because i am just using this on one engine, but it seems to idle better.

any other views from you? does it damage the engine?

asking because my the idling for my 72 saitos have been less than satisfactory. anything less than 2400 rpm has not been
very stable. my prop size is 12.5x8 and my tank location is slightly lower than the carb.

please share... and thanks.

A 13-6 or 14-4 plastic prop will make your 72 idle more stable

Also 72's tend to have a loose intake manifold and therefore develop vacuum leaks at the junction of the intake manifold and the head.

30 heli will not hurt your engine as long as you readjust the needle valve to allow for it and do not over speed the engine.

Properly adjusted the engine will actually run cooler with 30 heli

30 heli does not stay good as long as low nitro fuels - keep it in the dark

The needle valve is easier to set with 30 heli fuel

I had a 1999 model 65 for several years. It ran very reliably and the guy that owns it now just loves it.

I was looking at your 65 pictures. The needle valve assembly like on your engine is not made like that on the new engines.

Your engine does not have the "High Lift" cam but will accept it

How much like this needle valve body for the Saito 120, 150, & 180 look like yours?

The needle valve body is basicly the same as [link]http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=SAI120S145[/link]. I was thinking to go for a complete carb. Less change of getting the wrong part. horizonhobby won't deal with me, only US Buyers, so I'm going with [link]http://www.advantagehobby.com/[/link]. Very nice site to find spare parts!

I've bought from Advantage Hobby. I got good service

The whole carb would be a more sure bet. Your old one is an air bleed carb

You get that thing going and you will really enjoy it for many years.

Jim, I need to update my Saito .62 numbers, I did a major blunder when I got it. I checked the rocker lash today and found the exhaust with zero clearance. I set it using the stock Saito feeler guage and it now turns a Graupner 12x7 at 9,890 rpm, I think I recorded about 9,200 previously for the Graupner 12x7 and the Bolly 12.5x6. I must not have checked the rockers when I received it, my bad. I have a second one, I'll check it too.

Can someone with Twin Cylinder/Twin Carb. experience (FA-100T hopefully) tell me if these engines provide adequate exhaust pressure to the fuel tank to allow for a tank position 2 1/2 inches lower than the carb. intake. The pressure fitting is on the right cylinder exhaust stack only and I'm afraids there isn't going to be enough pressure to push fuel up that far. Especially for a reliable idle. Anybody have a take on this? Thanks.

Poh:

I have been using Cool Power 30% Heli in my Saito's. Because of cost I switched to 15% Four Stroke fuel but there was a noticable reduction in performance so I went back to the 30% heli. This is good fuel but it is expensive (about $27 pergallon), however, with a four stroke engine fuel quality is very important.

Thanks w8ye,
your comments are useful. i have friends using OS, kept insisting that i shouldnt be using and wasting money using
30% Heli.
so i felt quite akward. i thot it is no harm using 30% fuel so long as i can afford the $$$ and just like in a YS...

will take care not to over heat the engine.

You will love the way the 30% runs. But it will hurt your pocket somewhat with the extra cost.

Keep in mind that the engine uses more 30% nitro fuel than it would on 10% so your plane is not going to fly as long.

How much of a difference would Omega 25 make from a 30%? Can get that for 23 a gallon .Thinking of trying it over the Omega 15 .

Seem to have gotten all the bugs out of my 180 now ,she tunes up great! Will get some RPM figures with the 18x6 Xoar on 15% hopefully this weekend.

Interested to know what the 25% would turn out though.

Saitos like nitro and the more the better up to the 30% level

25% runs better than 20%

Well, there are diminishing returns.

The greatest change is at the lower levels with little change beyond 30.

I just have to give some more Kudo's to Jim at RCSpecialties. He solved another muffler problem for me on a 1.80. Here are the pics...it hides the 1.80 in the dummy real sweet. Incredible sound and no loose connections where the muffler meets the header.
Thanks Jim!

Hi guys,
I've heard great things about the PERRY PUMPS. How do they work? Are they connected to the nipple on the back of the crankcase? Which model should I get for my FA-65
Thanks!
