Check your battery switch. The have been a number of occurances when exactly that has occured at O/T venues. Switch develops high resistence etc. Fix is to go to specialist flick switches or use heavy duty 3 core ones like you use for 2.4 gig sets

HI Hobbsy,

I remember reading Bill Robison in this thread... he always had interesting comments, plus composing the original Saito Notes...

As for your black cylinder, I thought I read where some folks were painting their cylinders with Krylon spray paint, then baking them in an oven at, oh, 350F or so for a half hour. Could Bill have done this to yours????

Thanks for the advice FNQFLYER .I use the jr heavy duty ones with the charge jack all in one. Im pretty sure it was my own dumbness [&:] with maybe a dodgy battery as well. I will definitely use the telemetry together with a batt. checker until I think I know what Im doing . I will give the switch a good checking or maybe just ditch it to be safe. Cheers the pope

I had the same problem you are describing.Turned out to be the harness connections from the battery pack, also where it plugged into the rx,both of which i had'nt touched for years.

Nice going, Tenspeed. Hey, you didn't happen to once be in the Navy at South Weymouth up in Massachusetts, were you?

That 777 is significant for two other reasons too.....

First of all, Patent #777 was awarded to Guglielmo Marconi, the father of modern radio. Think of that every time you use your cell phone or listen to the news in your car.

777 is also known as the Sign of the Devil. Don't ask me why, but perhaps your better half says that that's appropriate for you...

Close, but not quite. Good point though.

I have 2 Saitos here from a friend. Both 100 twins. One is fresh from Horizon from a warranty bearing replacement. Flying it yesterday, developed a bearing noise. I tore it apart and the lifters seemed dry, are not spinning, and are quite galled for an engine with less than 3 hours on it. I discovered that the rear bearing is sealed. I am having a tough time finding ceramic bearings for these engines. RCBearings nor Boca have a listing. Does this engine share bearings with something else?
Engine 2 had its right cylinder broke off, bent con rod, and broke piston. This engine has had 2 set s of bearings installed and was running great, untill someone fell on it, but the pistons are flat top and the other engine has dished pistons. Which piston is current? I only need 1, but need both if it will come dished.

The one that is fresh from horizon with warranty work should have the current piston

The Saito 100T uses Saito 50 pistons and they are flat top

I can not find any bearing size info on the 100T. I can find the bearings for the older 90T which looks identical except the cylinders are silver.

The old 90T (Not the current 90TS) uses a 6901 (12 X 24 X 6) in the rear which is the same bearing used in the Saito 56

The front bearing is a 608 (8 X 22 X 7) which is the same bearing used in a Saito 65

If they changed the bearings for the 100T, they would have gone with a 6902 (15 X 28 X 7) in the rear?

You need to take your engine apart and see what bearings are in it? The number is etched into the inner ring on one side. Or you can measure it? I gave the dimensions in mm above.

I'm going to pull the crank to get the rear bearing out, but I can see a number on the sheild. If I can't get a good bearing for this I will remove the sheild and reinstall it. Did any Saito ever come with a rear sheilded bearing?

On rear bearings, sometimes Saitos had them and sometimes not. It doesn't make much difference.

To remove the shields on the rear bearing makes the engine lighter. Oil and metal fillings get into the bearing regardless of the shield

I prefer to have the rear bearing open. Some of the oil gets pushed forward to the cam drive gear on the crankshaft and has a path to the camshaft and lifters in the engine. It also makes it easier to flush out the engine for storage as you can remove the carb and backplate and flush it out good and oil it up good too. Any oil residues that are trapped inside the bearing can be more easily flushed out then.

Well, this one that made all sorts of noises when landing yesterday and the lifters, cam and everything in front of the rear bearing was dry. According to the "Everything Saito" thread, it is stated that there must never be a sealed bearing in the rear. I have several Saito's and rebuilt several, but never seen this. With 2 hours on the engine, the lifters already need replacement. One looks like it was sticking and there are 2 shiny edges on it from the cam. None looked like they rotating in the bore.

Either of the 100, 130, 270 or 300;

Some of those fowled up lifters, I chuck them in an electric drill and refinish the ends on some Emory cloth or wet/dry sand paper.

After taking a lot of Saito's apart, I find ones that have been run with a lot of valve clearance to have damage on the cams. You see wear points right where the lift part of the cam begins and ends. I replace these cams. I see this more often than wear at the peak of the cam lobe like you do on a car camshaft.
