That high idle is probably due to the ring not being seated. My .60 will idle down to 2.200rpm easily and is no more vibratory at 9,500 as it is at 12,500. Now it will go without saying that ALL engines will encounter a part of the rpm band where they vibrate a bit more than elsewhere in the rpm band. It also stands to reason to say it's nearly impossible to balance a single cylinder engine. I think ones efforts would be better put to work balancing the rotating assembly in a more efficient manner - which is heavier? Crankshaft or Rod/piston/gudgeon pin? The high end RC car engines (40,000rpm and up performance level) often have highly balanced rotating assemblies - the crank counterweight is drilled and tungsten weights installed. Perhaps the same method could be applied to a 4-cycle...

For some odd reason I can't quote in advanced, or quote and write something...

Anyhow, that article clip also seem to point at bad balancing for high rpm. I'm not sure on what rpm they intended the engine to run...
If it's underbalanced it should help the upper rpm to correct it, but most likely it's not very much that is needed. If it's used for 3D type of flying it might be good where it is, or very close by. If possible one can always try mounting it sideways in the plane and see if it gets any better.
But it's only one way to know and that's to try, even the Very big mfg with some Very deep pockets needs to use T&E. If one say they know exactly what's needed before hands on experience, they are either a Very bright individual or oblivious.
And I'm not sure on how far one can get without adding weight or especially where they are to begin with, something that's equally important.

Hi,
I had two airline pilots assist me maiden my recent ULF-2 creation. They did a good job, especially regarding the snow removal :-)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eurzAfSBuAg&t=52s A free download plan will be available when the plane will be presented in a feature article next month in Modellflug International magazine:
http://www.modellflug-international.com

The design style is similar to my ISABELLA:

Late to the dance, but I guess I'm club member - .09 IV, .15 IV, .19 4003, .19 V, .25 SS and .35 III B.
And I have a question - on an older standard 1-needle carb, what does adjusting the NV spigot in or out of the throttle body do?

Adjusting (screwing) it out gives more throat area so lets in more air which gives a little more power at the expense of fuel draw. Screwing it in does the opposite, less power but better fuel draw.

Tim,
Thanks, but I just emailed Ken Enya for it. He sent the manual and since I have a GP (geared pump) model he sent the fuel tubing routing instructions also. The GP instruction sheet is only been printed in Japanese though for some reason. If you need a copy of the GP info just PM me your email address.

I am tying to rebuild an Enya 120 4-stroke. how does one get the camshaft bearings out? Crankshaft bearings were easy enough.

TIA

There are no bearings on the camshaft - the camshaft run in phosphor bronze bushings.. The camshaft driver that is driven by the crankshaft has two bearings - one in the crankcase and one in the cam box. Heating those items in the oven for 15-20min at 325-350F and smacking in a block of wood usually liberates them from there former home.

You are right, of course. I added some extra heat from a heat gun and they did finally pop out. The rebuild is complete. Love me some Enya engines!

Thanks for your help.

Picked up 3 Enyas at the Lebanon swap meet last Saturday. a .25x, .50CX, and a .60X. Can't wait to run them. Need a muffler for the .25x if anyone has a lead on one.

I own an Enya 120FS, the "cooking" one not the 120R. It's currently installed in a WOT 4 XL. I also have a 50SS and a 45 model 6002 waiting for aeroplanes. I gave away a 40SS fitted to a Telemaster to a club colleague a couple of months ago. Fine engines.

I'd be very surprised if you can't get one direct from Ken Enya.

Next best thing is to contact Bob, ebay seller shtterman, the Enya parts guy. Most likely he's got an Enya muffler that will fit.

The original had a wingspan of 54 inches and was designed for a 40-46 size engine. When originally released you had to build your own model but now they are available as an ARTF. In the 1990s they introduced a tapered wing option with a longer wingspan, the so-called Mark 3. This used a cut-down wing from another Chris Foss design, the Acro Wot. I have built both the Classic and the Mark 3 WOT 4 as well as two Acro Wots. They all fly very nicely. Pictures below. The white one and my yellow "Winter Hack" are the standard WOT 4s. The multicoloured one is a Mark 3 with the tapered wing.

You can now buy a range of ARTF WOT 4s marketed by Ripmax in different sizes ranging from a little foamie electric powered model which flies very well, through the standard size WOT 4 and the englarged WOT 4 XL, shown above with my 120FS Enya fitted, to the WOT 4 Extreme which requires an engine of at least 45cc. The link below will take you to the standard size ARTF kit. Steve Webb will send one to the USA albeit at a price. Plans are available on eBay.
