I own a LHS and I can tell you that they all will fix what you send them if you tell them that. Only when the repair bill goes over 50% of new will they call you. If you tell them up front to call, thats when you get a call first. The product goes to the end of the line until they hear from you. It then has to work it's way up to the tech again. They will not start repairs unless you send a cc number with the letter. Dennis

Ultimately the man posting this is not happy and that sucks, sorry this has been difficult for you.
That said, YS kicks *** boys, even if 1 out of 2 performs the way mine does, I'd still be happy
for this one YS puts a smile on everyones face as it rockets straight up and up and up and up

Service costs money. I'd bet that the small YS importer doesn't have 6+ service technicians (like GP or Horizon do) that the pay regardless of the number of engines they service. Nor do they have replacement engines that cost almost nothing to replace the broken engines with(cheap imports). The reality is that YS is a top of the line product with a small customer base. Service is not something they can afford to give away, you have to pay for it. When you buy stuff from china and resell it you can afford to replace a few engines at no cast to the customer. Trust me I know what it costs to buy hobby items in china at the distributor level.
The point that Bob is trying to make is that they executed this transaction poorly. I'll agree with that. Potentially some new procedures would improve the company's ability to diagnose problems before putting much time (money) into it. The fact that the engine came back in pieces is simply that they already spent time on it that they aren't getting paid for and probably the result of the conversation that day. I've been on the technician side of these calls and there are nice people and there are not so nice people, who you don't go out of your way to do anything for. I'm not implying anything, but even nice people get upset and conversations go south. Sometimes they even call back to apologize.
When you buy any product, you can chose from two of the three following: low cost, good service, or high quality.

again i did not say the repair bill was not fair it irks me that they went ahead a put all the new parts in without my ok and assumed that i wanted to spend that kind of money to repair it. and act like it was my fault, i would have gladly paid a fee for their work rather then to have it shipped back in that condition. you don't want it either who would. like you said $250.00 is not much for such a good eng. and if you can repair it yourself $150.00 is a bargain.

If the cost of the needed new parts is not too much to be worth it, just order the parts and assemble the engine yourself. Don`t be intimidated by the socalled complexity of YS design. I recently broke down into atoms my 110 and rebuilt it again and now it runs great. Yes there are a few more parts in a YS than a regular fourstroke, but hard or difficult it is not. If you have some experience from wrenching on fourstrokes you will most likely be able to put it back together. Exploded view, showing all parts and where they go are available on the web.

Now why in the world would a YS need to be fixed every year? I don`t send any of my cheap engines to be fixed every year . As a matter of fact I had both Mag and TT for about 6 years and both still going strong. Whats up with that. Now I`m aware of the power of Ys engines. But why is it they have so much problems. Every person I know with one have problems. One day they are good the next they can`t stay runnng. $350 I don`t think so I`ll stick with $179 Thunder Tiger or $150 Mag. and fly all season and the next and the next.

Speaking strictly from personal experience and not taking sides here, I recently sent a blown ( rod went through the case) YS 120FZ to Rich. The repair is excellent and I know that I couldn't find a used one for $100 bucks more than the parts/ labor incurred with this motor. My engine is essentially brand new and a used YS120FZ would have been , well, just used. The way I rationalize repairing a motor like a YS is to forget the original cost because I got the use from it ( in my case 300+ flights )and therefore, my monies worth. If the damage to one of my engines was the result of a crash , I feel that's the nature of this hobby, period. Having a motor like a YS new again for a fraction of the original cost ( even if it's 3/4) is just icing on the cake.
