It's certainly caused by your transmitter. I personnaly fly a mx 22from Graupner and I've never had this problem before. Maybe you should directly ask Torsten Hans the headprogrammer of aerofly pro about this problem.

Hi Maarten
I am only using the Heli models to get up to skill level for actually flying my new T-Rex micro. Its a very addictive program. Its also very hard not to be doing 3D when I need to be doing hovering practice.
ANyway, my question is:
How do you activate the shadow of the heli to becoming heli shaped, as opposed to being rectanglular shadow that follows the heli?
Thanks in advance
Regards Stuart

Normally it should be a real non rectangular shadow. I remember having this problem a few times in my old aerofly pro, but it dissapeared after I restarted aerofly pro I think.

Maarten, you've got to know that your time is well spent in this forum. I will speak for everyone in saying your advice on setup in AFP and Deluxe is invaluable to those of us who don't know how some of these great planes fly in real life! Thank you! This forum, along with the Aerofly support forum and OMP's participation has helped me to decide on upgrading AFP and not buying XTR from a friend at a great price. For me, getting the physics even closer by reading these posts takes away the only edge XTR might have had!!
If it's not becoming a hastle, could you send your 3D heli pdf to me? Thanks...

Hey Maarten, have you made any other changes to the Extra330s in AFPD than what you listed in your 1/30 post? I'm still pushing a lot of down elevator while inverted. Also, I can't get AFPD to accept a decimal for the engine down thrust, .5 gets rounded up to 1. Thanks.

Did you already change the stab and wing incidence end engine downthrust? => wing incidence: -0.5° stab incidence: 0° engine downthrust: 0° Then trimm your plane at full throttle and check the uplines, they should be straighter. inverted flight should be better too.
jpflyrc, thanks! I'm happy to help the RC community and give the people the same feeling I have one flying! pdf files=> sent

Streight out, I am a frustrated buyer and attempted user of the OMP Sim. Purchased the delux unit January. Called middle of February asking status of delivery. Unable to deliver due to back order of controller, due in next week. (Billed my account first day) Waited the week, now back order several weeks away. Ikrus says May. Ok, send me the package less the commander for JR. Got it last week, and working to get it to work every since. Everything works right out of the box except the controller. (the one they do not have) Tried JR 10X, JR 9303, Futaba (2). Finally got the system to recognize a controller on line and show some reaction in setup. System still says no controller connected, and still have no control. Apparently the JR conection substituted for the Fatuba Multiplex connections. Called and had the JR connection shipped (another $30.) From my view, this group just does not have it togeather. Don's know what RCU reviewed in their lead report, but not the same complete items I received. Don't know the answer. Part of the problem is probably that I am a complete computer dummy. The other is how do I get some real on line help aka AOL, Del and other professional originazions. Yea, I am venting.

I'm looking to buy a simulator and I'm leaning toward AFPD but since I'm new to RC I'd like to be able to fly a plane similiar to the plane I'm building. I'm building a Great Planes Rapture 40 and I'm wondering how hard it would be to mimic it in AFPD? Either with a plane that is similiar in characteristics or by "building" the plane in AFPD. I'm planning to buy a Futaba 7C radio so I'll not only get used to the plane but get comfortable with the radio.
So, is this possible with AFPD?
Thanks,
Mike

Mikeperik, That's no problem. You have several trainers in afpd which fly similar to your plane. You can change the settings of these trainers till they fly 90% same like your Rapture .40. Or you can build your own afpd plane. I've never done it, but with enough courage and help it shouldn't be a huge problem.

Thanks for the Extra settings Maarten, it helped a little, but I think I am having calibration problems. After a while AFPD thinks my transmitter is 12 channels, it also seems to add a transmitter that doesn't exist. I can recalibrate but it doesn't seem to help. Different planes trim really different as well. For example the pt40 flys loops unless I trim the elevator all the way down. Things were not like this when I first installed AFPD. The screen just goes black on me once a while as well. I don't know what is going on.

seasterling, A program like aerofly pro can't make that much mistakes by itself, so I suppose it must be you computer which is behaving unstable.

Hey Maarten, I may have gotten rid of the black screen issue. I am not alone with the other problems though, there are several threads in these forums with people having the same problems. Some calibration issues are being caused by the interface. These cables are pretty cheesy. I understand they were making new cables but I don't know if I got one of the old ones or a new one. I just received my AFPD last week. Anybody know how you can tell? Others are having problems from plane to plane as well. Seems like that has to be a bug in the software. I reinstalled last night and only flew the Extra and didn't have any problems. I'll slowly introduce other planes and see what happens.
BTW, thanks for the Extra settings. I did however go to 1 degree of downthrust on the engine and it seems a bit easier to fly smoothly, especially rolling to inverted. I don't use any expo or dual rates. I've been on AFPD less than a week and have yet to get my real trainer in the air though so take that into consideration
I can already hover a bit though, hopefully the real thing is not that much more difficult than this. Kind of makes me wonder about my trainer, the Extra in AFPD is so much easier to fly than the pt40.

Hey Maarten, I recently traded in my AFP for the Deluxe and I enjoy it except when I get the plane all trimmed out, sometimes it changes while I'm still flying.[:@] If I stop and come back it is WAY off or if I change models really bad. I start to fly harrier rolls and then I start to fly poorly and realize somehow it's gotten way out of trim! [
]
PS I fly with my Futaba 9C If you or anyone knows how I can correct this I would appreciate it!!
Thanks Jim

Hello, I have had the same problems as you with trimming in AFPD with a Futaba T6XA thought I was just new and didn't know how to fly yet. Then I realized that there was interference caused by the signal that you're transmitter is putting out it is jumping around in the 1/8" stereo plug. So what I did was un soldered the 1/8" jack and the multiplex plug then re soldered the Futaba round plug on the end of my interface cable (the same way they had it on the Futaba end) I also added a ground wire to it which is soldered to the inside of the plug housing (not any prongs) and put a alligator clip on the other end then just clipped it to the case of my computer. Hope this helps you're problem as well I know it helped mine out it is 100%%%%%%% rock solid now hey I can hairier and hover with control now and I have only been flying the simm or anything for that matter for a month now but it has only been fixed for a week that’s how big the improvement was couldn’t hover worth crap before I fixed it. I think if you wanted to keep all the different plugs I would buy some good quality ones and try it. Well my fingers are getting sleepy feel free to Email me with any Questions I could even give you my number if you would like.
Good Luck, Doug

Maarten, I am trying to set up a plane in AFPD to fly very much like a 40 size Edge540 profile spad I built:
48" wingspan, engine is .46, AUW is about 4 lbs, 10 oz.
How do you go about adjusting the plane (or AFPD) to fly more like the real thing? - is it just a matter of speeding up the SIM speed? I like the Edge540 MOAP in AFPD, but it flies a lot floatier than reality (although I understand its a bigger model).

How do I get the ability to view from cockpit again? I had it when first installed but now I have only "fixed view". I've tried the F5 thru F8 keys and nothing. All views are greyed out under 1. View. I have reinstalled several times and no cockpit view. Anyone know how to fix it?

I don't know if you mean all the sceneries but these three landscapes will only fly in fixed view Rottenburg, sparling field, and winzeln.
Good luck

shtumpa, "I shot the sherrif" from Eric Clapton. I got it from an Eric Clapton DVD live at Hyde Park.
Palouseflyer, Make it heavier, reduce power that will do the trick partly. Just fly the real thing alot and adjust the afpd plane till it's almost perfect. The standard Hype 3D doesn't fly like the real hype 3D at all. After alot of changes it's almost identical to my hype.
Seasterling, Seems like a real problem. I'm sure this will be solved in time. Every new sim needs time for evolution, it's a pitty customers are the "victim" of this. I'm sure this problems will be solved very soon. Nice to hear you're making progres on the extra.[8D]
dtburton 75, thanks for this very interessting post [8D]

hey Doc.
although your extra setup is prob the best ive come across. ive always felt its 1. overpowered and 2. too slow
ive been tinkering with the prop sizes and ive found with the same power from the engine, the 38x21 flies nicely (if the dimensions are a bit odd
). ive never flown a giant scale plane but im guessing strait line speed will be quite fast at full power. so i ran few tests through each prop:
1. full power strait line speed. on this prop i get about 84mph.
2. vertical full power downline speed. i know you shouldnt be able to do this but i wanted over 100mph. i got about 110.
3. power in prophang. my thinking large scale planes use about 1/3 to 1/2 power and i got this on 1/3 power.
4. hover punch out. this is the only thing im struggling to be more realistic, as its very fast.
this IMO feels "nice" so i dont need full power for fast snpas with freestyle flying.

Maarten,
Being new to AFPD, as far as changing parameters for an aircraft, how does one go about entering the values you're giving? Sorry if I missed this, or the answer is embarrassingly obvious.
Love the sim, and your help on this forum.

Edible-engine, I've flown giant scale airplanes, I reduced power from extra setup in aerofly pro back to 9 kW felt mucht more realistic.
miltm, click the edit button on the mainpage, than you can change all the parameters, then save as a new model.
