I Need some help.....Im almost finished with my Great planes .60 Extra 300s with a 1.10 fz
I figured a high torque servo for the tail(i put a 100 oz on it w/pull pull) But my real question lies how do you set up a dual elevator servos? I have a Futaba 6XAS and was wondering if i need a Y harness or can i put in two leads in the reciever and somehow mix em? HELP OHH GREAT ONES!

E*nealio,
I've never used that particular Tx, but I found a manual to here: http://www.futaba-rc.com/manuals/6xas-hs-manual.pdf
On the bottom of page 37, it states "You can use both PMXs to create a custom dual elevator function, where you use two servos for your elevator control, one for each side."
It goes on to explain how to use the PMXs on page 38 (the page number at the bottom, not the page number of the .pdf file).
Hope this helps,
Baron

I use a 6XAS. You will need to use a programmable mix. Ch2 would be the master, and Ch 5 slave. If you are also using two aileron servos on Ch1 and Ch6, you will have used all six channels. The programmable mixes are very easy to use. Just read the manual and play with some loose servos. Don't forget to set the mix % for both directions of stick deflection and use the right sign (+ or -) to get the correct direction of travel.

I have the dual ailerons on a big long Y harness, I just didnt feel like running a Y haress to the tail and dont want to bother with the reverse servo movement thing. Thanks for the help. Time to go read my manual. Thanks a Bunch.

If you have a computer radio, you can use the ailevator function. At least that is how I did it. On my futaba 9C they plug into channels 2 and 8. Then you go into the ailevator function set AIL 3 and 4 to "0" (which stops the ailerons from moving with the elevators via Mix, and activates elevator movement) and Ele 1 and 2 to to "+100" or whatever max range of movement you wanna give them. That activates your elevators to move then you can just go in and trim out channels 2 and 8 for whatever rates you want. Also this allows for very precise alignment and centering of the 2 seperate elevators after you get them close at the servo and clevis.. Just my experience, take it for whatever you can get use of.

You just have to watch out with the 6xas. They use the elevator dual rate switch to control the pmix on and off... so you will most likely loose the dual rates on the elevator to set that up.

Another way would be to use Hi-tec digital servos and reverse the direction of one via a programmer. THen all you have to do is use a simple "Y" harness. No mixing to play with just plug & play. If you do not want to pay for the programmer places like servocity will reverse the direction of a servo for you.
I hope that helps!

I second the Hitec digital servo method. I had a dual elevator setup with PMIX on a 6A (and later on an 8U) and it didn't seem like the slave servo was travelling at the same speed as the master. It could have been something incorrect with the way I did the mix, but I thought I read somewhere on Futaba's website that the slave can lag behind in some cases. Anyone ever have that problem?

I found where I read about the servo lag with mixed elevator servos. Futaba claims that it isn't noticeable for average pilots, and I can't say that it ever gave me a problem in flight, but it was notieable on the ground.

I had a 6X and if I remember correctly, you can use a PMix but you can't transfer the trim setting to the mix so it may not be of use in your application. Make sure you can transfer the trim to the mixed channel. Other than that, just use it and enjoy.

I like the idea of the digital servos w/ a programmer. Just another excuse to get a couple digital servos

Thanks!

Thanks!
