Default Ways to practice for IMAC/ Basic maneuvers

I am going to get into IMAC in the future, and would like to know how i can help myself get there now. I have a four star 40 and ugly stick 40. Please lend some info on how to get to IMAC and some maneuvers i can try.

Thanks
Chad

Chad,

www.mini-iac.com has all the info your looking for.
Study the basic sequence. If you need a description of the maneuvers that are on the sequence that is there also.

We made some videos of the sequences that may help you also...

Hope that helps.

Chad,

wgeffon makes some very good suggestions but both of those planes will be hard to do the basic sequences with. It can be done but will require ALLOT of patience and tons and I mean tons of structured practice.

When I mean practice that includes going throught the advanced trimming procedures to properly trim the plane and that alone can take 25 - 50 flights on a plane that is truly designed for IMAC. The key to IMAC is SMOOTHNESS. The track of the plane across the sky is the most important item.

Read the judging guide and attend a judging school. At the schools they will teach you what the judges are looking for then you will actually go and judge someone as well as be judged.

I am not trying to discourage you but IMAC, even in basic requires precision. It all boils down to can you put the plane wherever you want at any time in any wind.

So I gather you now own the Stik you were talking about and have the wing almost done for the 4*40?

Basic can be flown with any plane.
If all he has is those planes they by all means he should use them for the contest.

The basic class is there for people to get their feet wet with competition.
If he gets the impression that he needs a better plane to even try the sequence he's going to be discouraged before he even starts.

Use what you have and give it a shot.

Wayne I do agree that anything can be used for basic and both planes will do it, but practice is a requirement that must be done and also knowing how to properly trim a plane certainly will help

When I started in IMAC my first competiton was with a little 150.00 dollar Seagull 60 size Extra using an OS91Fs turning a 12X10 prop and I did pretty good, but once I sat down and trimmed the plane using a trim guide I learned allot and the plane most definitely flew better.

So yes, you can do it with just about anything but even in basic you can come up on some pretty good competition and I was just letting Chad know what he might run into so I could have possibly said it better for the benefit of everyone else that wants to give it a shot.

I would really like to see him find a part of this hobby and settle into it and I think IAMC will definitely help. Practicing IMAC basic schedulles on a 4* and being able to do it well with that plane will definitely make it easier with a better handling plane (not that there is anything wrong with the 4*) and he will be a better pilot.

I think what these guys are trying to say is "use the 4* now, but don't buy the stick if you don't already have it."

I am just beginning flying IMAC and the guys on RCU have helped me more than they know. If fly your 4* and get comfortable wtih that plane you will realize that the coupling and relatively non-precision characteristics of a "Stick" will not be what you really want.

If you have some time still before you buy the stick check out some of the 40 or 60 size extras, edges or caps out there, they will be great for Basic and carry you into Sportsman. If you have more money to spend, go bigger, you won't be sorry!

That advice is working great for me so far!

From one IMAC newbie to another...

I would say to do two additional things.
Visit my site to see how to fly different maneuvers
http://www.geistware.com/rcmodeling/...ics/maneuvers/

Go to Gene Payson's site to see how to be an awesome pilot

Geistware: I have done both of these as a new and aspiring IMAC pilot. Thanks for the great advice. Gene Payson has also been a great help, not only giving me a great deal on products but I've used his techniques and my precision flying tippled in quality since the beginning of last summer!

It is amazing what focused practice with a well trimmed aircraft will do for a pilot! [8D]

Hey theres nothing wrong with flying a Four Star in Basic, I myself flew one and came in 4th in my first competition against 18 people and 5th in my second one against 22 people, and if you can do well with the Four Star then once you get a Extra or a Edge you will be laughing at how easy it is to fly the sequence with precision.
