I hope this is the right forum for this. I wouldn't call a rolling circle a stick banging 3D maneuver, so that's why I posted it here.
Anyways, I've been doing rolling circles for about a year now, and always with the wings rolling out, and going counter clockwise. Well I got the AFPD simulator for Christmas, and I've learned how to do them clockwise also. Now I want to be able to do them both directions, but with the wing rolling in. I want to be able to do a rolling figure 8 when I'm finished learning it, but I can't do the first roll with the wings rolling in before old habits take over my fingers and it goes the other way! LOL I've tried and tried, and it's just not working. LOL I need HELP!
I need some pointers or something to get this thing started!
Thanks..........

About a month and a half ago someone posted the same problem your experiencing. The only reason I took note of this thread because I was in the exact same boat at the time. That thread is located on page two of this forum. Here is a link to it. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5032199/tm.htm
Now that I feel I’ve pretty much have the maneuver down (on the sim). All can tell you is practice, practice, practice. It will take awhile to get around the hurdles of wanting to give outside roller inputs but it will come. Just give yourself a little stick time each day doing this maneuver (to the left and to the right). Once you get to a point each day where you feel your regressing, stop and do something else. Also… I don’t fly AFPD so I don’t know much about it. If it has a Time Expansion feature, where you can fly the plane in slow motion, try that too for a few times.
Don’t give up, pretty soon you will be giving pointers to the next guy that is in the same situation.

SDR-Hammer,
Thanks for the link. I remember reading that one now.
Some very good pointers in there.
I've been burning a lot of sim fuel,
and I finally was able to over ride my memorized finger movements, and do a couple of half recognizable outside rollers. LOL It's just going to take LOTS of practice to get the rhythem down for it. My biggest mistake in the past year was limiting myself to just doing them one direction.....
I'm finding the sim is a great tool for learning these new maneuvers. You still have to go out and do them on the real thing, but the hard part has already been learned. Now you just have to fine tune it to whatever plane you are flying at the field.

I don't fly rollers, I know the inputs but they look really bad.
What I am going to say is for all maneuvers.
I learned the mechanics and it allows me to fly the sportsman and intermediate maneuvers.
Once I realized that I needed to fly the plane along the course in my mind, it all changed.
I have not won a contest, but most of the maneuvers are flown holding the plane on its course.
Give it enough time, and this will click for you.

I've been flyinig IMAC for two seasons now, first basic, then sportsman last year. I've never competed since all the meets are 4 to 5 hrs away, and I can't spend the night because of my farm. I've been flying since 93, just buzzing around and learning 3D, Learning IMAC as been a real joy for me. I do it to challenge myself, and to keep things interesting.
If warm weather ever gets here, I'll try what you suggested in "fly the plane along the course in my mind". I can fly the sequence alright, but this might smooth things out a bit.
I did get to fly one day a couple weeks ago, and got to try a few rolling circles with the wing rolling in. It was uggggggggggly.
But that's what makes it fun!

haha.. I thought someone had bumped my thread....
yes it's a real pain to learn rollers the other way after you have done them one way for awhile. Then add doing them both ways in the other direction and it's even more of a pain.
The hardest part is getting the rudder placement correct and not using as much el. I can't say much other than whats been said in both threads... just keep at it and you will get it.
Funny enough I was messing around the other night and recorded this while I was doing a low roller.. http://www.djsinergy.com/g3_practice.wmv rather fitting for this conversation

sinergy,
I wish my AFPD would let me do that.....I've managed to knock the wing off, but after about 5 or 6 seconds of flying, the sim recognizes it, and calls it a crash. [:@] Instant reset. LOL
Nice roller with the wings rolling in btw......wish mine were that good on the sim.

hahah ya it was kind of funny... even better that I just happened to have clicked record
Nogyro: Thanks... highly recommend you get G3 when you have the extra money... it's a lot more realistic in many ways... I started with AFPD myself.

You can do this in AFPD if you really want to. Adjust the restart time after crash time to a higher value than 5. Have done this before but every time, the reset will be the length of time you set.

Nogyro & Digger44,
After you set you restart time to a longer time, and you are able to knock off a wing, see if you can land it, or at least get it on the ground in a reasonable manner. It is possible, but you have to stay on top of it, and not try to do to much at once. if you do crash, you can hit the spacebar, and that will reset the flight and you can start all over without having to wait for the time to run out.
Have fun,
Erogers

Thanks for the spacebar tip....

Best suggestion I can make is..
Good rolling circles take WAY more rudder than you might expect initially. Most people seem to have a hang up about getting enough rudder into the maneuver, and a worse time getting it in smoothly. On many rollers, especially in 2 roll or 1 roll circles, it's not uncommon to find myself using maximum rudder stick deflection (about 25-30 degrees depending on the flight mode).
