Hello Vincent (and others), I've been following this thread for some time now, with great joy!

I myself have a SIG Ryan... Errrm... almost two SIG Ryan STA Special kits. One I bought some 25 years ago, when I was still a kid. I started building it without any experience and, telling from Vincent's photos, I didn't do too bad. Unfortunately the parrot that I had at that time thought it would be a nice bite…

So a few years ago I bought a new-in-the-box kit from the US on eBay, which still lies untouched, waiting for the moment that I will have enough time to start a proper build. I might get back to you guys for some extra tips and tricks on this project.

Congrats Dutch, the Ryan build is a ton of fun and a ton of work (which makes it fun)! If you need help, we're always here to help, good luck and enjoy your build...

Hi, I've just purchased one of these at our club auction, I don't think it has flown for a few years but looks ok.
Is it possible to tell me where the CG is please ?

Well I can't claim it as my work - it was built by an old club member so I'm going to treat it with respect.
The cockpit is great, I'll need a pilot for it, and the Joy Stick actually switches the radio on and off!

The motor is a RCV60-SP with a 2 to 1 gearbox which allows it to spin a larger prop

After a hard landing ripped the landing gear out from the wing I decided to retire my second hand one tp keep from damaging it further. I had a friend rebuild the landing gear and repair the checkerboard covering so that it looked good again. I then removed all the radio and engine gear and made a dummy prop shaft from a dowel to mount the prop and spinner. It is now on display over the PlayPort at the Maine Mall and looks great. The kids really enjoy the space and the aviation themed buildings and interactive displays. There are several models hanging above the space to represent the different aspects of civilian aircraft. I am dissappointed it didn't fly well, but I think this is a better fate and will be enjoyed by many for a long time.

Looks good hanging there and the kids get the joy of seeing it. Maybe they would let you hang an advertisement for the local club with it and you can recruit a few new members?

Actually the local hobby shop Ray & Robin's Hobby have provided all the aircraft on display (medivac helicopter, Lockheed Vega, Glasair GS-2 Light sport and a large Extra 300). Under each one is an information page about the full size aircraft, the model aircraft and the builder with club information. Its a very nice display. I had initailly been asked to display my Great Planes WACO YMF-5 and there is a an information sheet about it. I don't know if the sheet will be updated to reflect the Ryan.

Nice, I have been asked to display my Cub with CAP insignia at a meeting for the cadets to see so I will probably make arrangements to do so. It would be nice to arrange a flight for them but they meet at an airport so it would have to be away from their headquarters.

Hello to anyone interested in the SIG Ryan STA Kit. I have just inherited an untouched kit that was originally purchased in 1991. I am absolutely amazed at the quality of the wood in the kit after all those years. It is brilliant and the plans have never been opened. In a similar fashion, I have also received a SIG Liberty Sport Bi-plane kit the quality of which is also like new but sadly the instruction manual is missing. At the moment I am heavily engaged in building a Balsa USA Fly Baby Biplane in addition to the two large twins on my bench. If anyone is interested in the SIG kits, please detail your interest and I will get back to you. Many thanks.
